Totally agree with Breja and stg83.

And then there's this guy saying they're pushing film technology forward. That's just laughable. If they're doing so, they're definitely not showing it in this trailer.

This is something I have to say:

I don't give a shit if the CGI looks fake-ish so long as I get to see Orcs, Dragons, and Magic on screen :P

What I said and Mad Max was kinda dissipointing since it was really not about MAX himself.

Elmofongo: Dude I'm just saying that we came so far and yet people still would say CGI still looks fake and shitty today :P
avatar
Breja: Because it does in this case. It has nothing to do with how far the technology has come, it's only about the result of how it was applied here.
Does it matter if it looks fake-ish. So long as I get to see Orcs fighting people because I really don't care if its up to par I mean people puts up with Kirk fighting that obviously cheap and fake looking Lizard Man:

And now you're comparing it to a TV show. From the 60's.

And yes, it does matter. It's not all that matters, it's not the most important thing, but If we praise movies that deliver great visuals, we must also notice when the visuals are sub-par. It's a film. A visual fucking medium. Sure, if the story and acting turn out to be very good it might still be a good movie despite bad CGI, but that doesn't mean the bad visuals are to be ignored.

Also, you know, as laughably bad as that fight with the Gorn looks... at least the Gorn is there. At least it looks like Kirk and the Gorn actually exist simultaneously in the same place. That's more then I can say for orcs and humans in that trailer.

Sometimes I wish I have your eyes Breja because still in the end I just don't think the CG in the movie looks bad.

I think The CGI visuals are at the very least competant. The Orcs are faithfully designed from the art style of the games. Texture quality is fine, and their faces seem to be expressive enough.

But lets talk about something else. Story.

How well versed are you in Wacraft lore?

Elmofongo: How well versed are you in Wacraft lore?
Honestly... barely at all. I only played the games, I never read any books or comics or whatever, and I have not played the first two games since the 90's I think, so I don't remember much beyond the very broadest picture of what was going on. And I have not played anything beyond the Burning Crusade (and even back then I never even maxed out a single character) so I have no clue what's been going on ever since. I really liked the story in Warcraft 3, and I wanted to keep following it, but not in an MMO. The franchise just lost me.

Then Start watching Nobbel87's vids if you have the time.

Starting wtih this:

Listen to Lore Watch and read Know Your Lore. Not watch random youtube videos about it.
Sorry, but I'm not going to devote my time to learning Warcraft lore. Come on. I don't even play the game anymore, and it does not look like I need to brush up before Warcraft 4 coming soon. What would be the point?

Dude/Dudette, that's Nobbel87 your talking about, probably the biggest Warcraft Lore Nut of all time.

We does his story videos with more passion than Lore Watch and Know your Lore :P

Pretty sure that is not the case.
As someone who's only exposure to Warcraft has been Hearthstone, and is very interested in the lore, unfortunately hates RTS and MMOs, so has never played anything else in the series, I liked the trailer.

It looks interesting. I love seeing an orc character that isn't a villain. For as cliched as elves, dwarves and orcs are perceived to be, apart from LOTR, we never see them in movies, so I hope we get another high-fantasy movie franchise.

Finally, I think the CGI doesn't look real, of course, but it's fine in its own way.

If you want to know something about the lore of the movie or if it fails at staying faithful, just play Warcraft 1, it's awesome anyway.
I've finished Warcraft 1 a few years ago with both races and it was great in spite of the badly aged controls. Warcraft 2 is harder though and I haven't made it through yet, but I will try it again soon, if only to hear the complaints for clicking some units too often again "Stop poking meeeee!!!!!" ; "Join the army, they said; see the world, they said - I'd rather be sailing...". :D

As I mentioned before, I hope to see the first two Warcrafts re-released, and I'll gladly replay them then. Although I'll probably play on easy, just for the story and some nostalgia. I was never very good at RTS games, and I only got worse with time, as I'm completely out of practice, and the somewhat hectic pace and the need to multitask in real time get me stressed. I feel like I'm playing "did I leave the stove on?- the game" becasue I always feel like I'm forgetting something important while dealing with something else.

If you enjoy any in-game lore, I suggest you read the Warcraft novels. I haven't read the World of Warcraft series, but I enjoyed the Warcraft series and the War of the Ancients trilogy. The manga The Sunwell Trilogy wasn't too bad either, but I haven't read Warcraft: Legends or the World of Warcraft-branded comic books.

You know I hope this movie sells well because judging from the trailers they are clearly sequal baiting with characters that are still children/babies (Varian and Thrall)

So the idea of seeing this on the big screen and done faithfully will be exciting:

Oh man to see the Arthas and mabye the Lich King on the big screen. Shit don't ruin this Metzen.
