Buenro-games: I am looking forward to seeing this film. But I am also curious as to why it's suppose to be such a feminist movie, like I keep on reading in different places. Can't be its just because the female leads do action stunts. That's not something new, so I am curious about this.

RWarehall: My understanding is some people are upset because Theron gets as much or more screen time than "Mad Max".
But seriously, whatever, who cares. Don't let social politics affect what you watch. I haven't seen it yet, but from the stories I've heard, if you like non-stop action films and don't mind if they have a plot or not or whether the plot makes sense, you'll like the movie.
Oh, that makes sense. I like Charlize Theron a lot, her film The Devil's Advocate is one of my favorites. The fact that she is together with Sean Penn must also mean that she is not that much into looks. : D

I guess the film should be really called; Mad Maxine ; P
Was a good summer action film, but the actor sucked as max, not that he had much role since furosia stole the spotlight and she was awesome and main star of the movie, hell even in the trailer little bane seemed confused about if he is max

Tallima: I hate it for all the reasons you loved it. At least I know I don't have to try to finish it on DVD. :)

j0ekerr: Oh dear me, DVD? How quaint good sir.
Ha! I usually watch movies on business trips. And I carry around my PS2 to watch them. So I don't even think they're up-scaled DVDs.

Also. blu-rays are ridiculously expensive. So even if I had a PS3 to carry around, I'd keep playing my DVDs. They look good enough to convey the movie and are cheap enough to buy or rent as needed.

P.S. That said, some movies might warrant a blu-ray. My bro has a 3D blu-ray and there's a few movies that 3D adds a lot. Still, not for me. I'm too cheap.

Best Summer movie of all time: Pacific Rim.

It was silly, riddled with so many plot holes that it looked like a cinematic swiss cheese and enough plot contrivances to drown yourself in.

But it was AWESOME! HUGE ROBOTS PUNCHING GIANT MONSTERS IN THE FACE! ELBOW ROCKETS! AND THEN A HUGE ASS SWORD COMES FROM THE ROBOT'S ARM! AND THEY USED A BOAT AS A CLUB!

What's not to love?
Furry Road would have been a better title (sorry friends of the wild, I still love you).

j0ekerr: Pacific Rim.
Sorry I hated that movie, it felt like a play in 1 act and three (long) scenes : over the-top fight, tear-pulling speech, nonsensical fight, THE END.

Rabid Max: Furry Road
Yeah, my copy of Mad Max: Fury Road won't start either. This CDP or whatever company is shite anyway. I bought the key for Mad Max: Fury Road like 3 months ago from some Russian dude on a train, but now I plug my key into the Galaxy malarkey and I just got DRM up my backside. I don't see why all the fuss over Mad Max: Fury Road anyway everybody knows it's just a shite console port with stolen graphics assets from some Bethesda game. Plus I can't even start it even though I definitely have specs on my computer. I don't what they are, but my computer has specs, damn it! You and your shite Polish shite consolitis shite DRM company game shite shite can just go take a Mad Max: Fury Road hike off a short shite pier!

Phthbbbbbbt!

Actually if you compare the current price of blu-rays with the price of DVDs at the same point in their life cycle you will realize that BR discs are very low priced in comparison.

BR hasn't made much of a headway. Everybody could see the benefits of DVD over VHS. But most people are not willing to pay one more time for the same movie, despite the HD quality.

In fact I don't know a single person with a Blu-ray player, (not counting PS3, of course).

I'm actually willing to pay a couple bucks more for Blu-ray than DVD, just for the picture quality increase. But I still stand by my policy of not buying movies/tv shows until they're deeply discounted. So I pick up most of my Blu-rays for anywhere from 5 to 8 bucks. I feel that's pretty cheap and not much more expensive than discounted DVDs.

Pacific Rim was great, but too little action and what there was of the story was ... Meh. Gigantic mechs tho.

Mad Max is way better.

That's not how the prices work here, in general. At Redbox (not sure if you have those -- machines that rent out movies) it's $2 for blu-ray, $1.50 for DVD. At my movie rental place near where I live, they will sell off their old movies for 10 for $10 or between $2 and $3 each for blu-ray.

So I get a lot more bang for my buck with the DVD. And I have a PS2, DVD Player, XBOX360 and a Roku. We have 1 HD TV (we just got that a few months ago) and one SDTV. So we just get HD content on the Roku and get DVDs for our rentals/buys. We can use them more places and we're just not videophiles. So we don't notice a lot of difference in terms of enjoyment (certainly you can see a difference in picture quality, though).

Mad Max: Fury Road should be renamed Mad Maxipad because it's all about females in the movie.

Mad Max: Fury Road is an action movie aimed at females not males. There is little to no plot, no story, very little character development. It was just pure action and that's it. Oh, and it has feminism bullshit shoehorned into it.

Here's the thing with pure high octane action. You have to not only have action but have something else like "d'aww" moments. That is what made some of the Fast & Furious movies so good. Otherwise, if you want to make pure action movies, you have to make it very male-centric since men are the majority audience for this type of thing. A good example of this is Expendables. It was just pure action as well as pure testosterone and made little to no apologies for it.

Mad Max: Fury Road did neither one of these things. The combination of pure action, sidelining main character and putting the female sidekick is a recipe designed to attract feminists. Here's the problem with that. There are not many feminists around in the real world. Most people either do not or no longer identify themselves as feminists these days. There is even a growing number of celebrities of both sexes who are not feminists. It is in many ways, like religion, in that it is a dying social ideology. It is dying a slow death but a sure one. You only see a lot feminists in the internet because, they, like MRAs are very loud but at the end of the day a small number of people.

Perhaps if it had some proper character development, like Alien where Ellen Ripley, who was the actual protagonist, did have lots of character development, the movie would have done really well like Alien did. But it didn't. The reality of the matter is that pure high octane over the top action kind of movies is primarily watched by men and men prefer it to be unapologetically male in the same way bad romantic BDSM fiction like 50 Shades of Grey is primarily watched by women.

I agree with you on both counts. I'm just pointing out that back when DVDs were king. You would have been hard pressed to find that sort of discount. Certainly not on major titles. Plus, BR has competition DVDs didn't have.

I guess they had to put Theron as the lead character this time, instead of Max. Otherwise the movie would have been considered misogynist, and we can't certainly have that.

I kinda miss the 80s when they put strong female leads in action movies because it was cool, not because they had to due to gender politics and shit. You know, movies like Terminator 1-2 (esp. the latter), Aliens etc.
