Tallima: Ha! I usually watch movies on business trips. And I carry around my PS2 to watch them. So I don't even think they're up-scaled DVDs.
Also. blu-rays are ridiculously expensive. So even if I had a PS3 to carry around, I'd keep playing my DVDs. They look good enough to convey the movie and are cheap enough to buy or rent as needed.
P.S. That said, some movies might warrant a blu-ray. My bro has a 3D blu-ray and there's a few movies that 3D adds a lot. Still, not for me. I'm too cheap.
j0ekerr: Actually if you compare the current price of blu-rays with the price of DVDs at the same point in their life cycle you will realize that BR discs are very low priced in comparison.
BR hasn't made much of a headway. Everybody could see the benefits of DVD over VHS. But most people are not willing to pay one more time for the same movie, despite the HD quality.
In fact I don't know a single person with a Blu-ray player, (not counting PS3, of course).
That's not how the prices work here, in general. At Redbox (not sure if you have those -- machines that rent out movies) it's $2 for blu-ray, $1.50 for DVD. At my movie rental place near where I live, they will sell off their old movies for 10 for $10 or between $2 and $3 each for blu-ray.
So I get a lot more bang for my buck with the DVD. And I have a PS2, DVD Player, XBOX360 and a Roku. We have 1 HD TV (we just got that a few months ago) and one SDTV. So we just get HD content on the Roku and get DVDs for our rentals/buys. We can use them more places and we're just not videophiles. So we don't notice a lot of difference in terms of enjoyment (certainly you can see a difference in picture quality, though).
