nah i'll pass ....:D
it depends on the game, some games like wanderlust you always need an online authentication. but most games on desura are drm free. thats why i use desura, and not ever steam.

with gamersgate you have some that are drm free but also some require online authentication.

lugum: what you want to know about desura?
avatar
thespian9099: I create an account yesterday, so I'm not familiar with the way it functions.
1) It works like Steam (online validation)? (I haven't internet at home)
2) The games there generally have DRM or not?
3) How I can find out if this is the case with Gemini Rue?

If someone wants to answer these questions regarding Gamersgate or other common distributors in the thread, I also appreciated!

The reason: I do not want to deprive other forum members of keys whick maybe I can't use later!
I didn't get it. Are you asking about Desura or GamersGate?
Desura is exactly like Steam, even has a similar client (I don't use Desura). What is different about Desura vs. Steam, is its support with more Indie games and games for Linux.
In GamersGate, you don't need a client (it doesn't exist), is kind of similar to GOG.com, you download a game, but, you need an Internet connection in the computer you want to install the game. You can download the game from another -faster- computer, but for the installation, you need Internet. After that, it doesn't matter. Also, some games are DRM-Free, others don't (Securom, etc). I don't know much about it, I just have two games there (and one thanks to adambiser.)

No, Desura is not like Steam, there is one pretty major difference between the two.
With Steam, (almost) all games that you download will have to be played through steam, with steam active at all time. With Desura, that is not the case, the games are not linked to Desura, and you can run them on their own, without starting Desura. With Steam, the client is a form of DRM, while with Desura, the client is just there for convenience (and they are working on direct download from the site for all games, so you won't have to use the client).

NameGoo: Of course, a ninja giveaway from me wouldn't be complete without one of these.
My connection is too slow for these ninja giveaways. And some of the Ultima games have been on my wishlist for a while :) Thanks for your generosity and congrats to the redeemers.
Thank you all for your generosity
