I've had no problem with GFWL, honestly I'm actually happy about this since I was sure it WAS going to be steam and got all prepped to pass on it.
ok, I know that GFWL has got absolute shit for service if you live outside of North America; so if that is you, you have my condolences and I encourage you to create a new GFWL account that -claims- your location is in NA (there are several guides for this out there if you search for them).
outside of the regional issues, GFWL has got three bad habits:
#1 is that it will occasionally forget your login information, I suspect that it stores it like a login to a web page and if you clear your cookies it will wipe your saved info.
#2 is that it doesn't save your CD keys online, so if you uninstall or like #1 GFWL's stored info gets screwed up; you will need to re-enter it.
#3 is that it applies patches internally, meaning that you have to have the game running in order for it to patch ... which is about the dumbest fucking thing on the face of the earth, but at least it -only- patches the game you are running (steam's auto-patching pissed me off).
.............................
#1 is a "so fucking what" kinda issue because it doesn't happen too often but people who have gotten used to steam's more reliable retention of stored info tend to loose their minds when it happens, so *shrug* ...
#2 can be a bitch, but the way to make it easier is that you can just copy and paste your entire CD key at once. simply highlight the whole key (dashes and all) then Ctrl+V when the "enter key" screen pops up ... it's about the only CD key system that I have seen that will intelligently enter the whole key at once.
#3 .... not much can be said for this, just Alt+Tab out and let it run in the background.
