So.. Refusing to buy the port because they chose a networking platform that I don't want to put up with is my fault? They want to woo me into buying their product (of which I was VERY excited to, almost enough to use a meme), until this rumor came up detailing an inferior backbone and a system that does absolutely nothing to support promotion of their game compared to other services. Hell, even Origin would be a better backbone than GFWL simply because Origin at least has higher visibility for what friends are playing.

It's an easy, but bad decision to make on their part. I find it amusing that we see a few here and there arguing that if it's not bought, these experiences will go away. No, there's a demand for it, it just needs to be done "right enough", and GFWL is a huge detractor.

From what i've seen GFWL games that aren't published by Microsoft are always sold on Origin/Steam and all other digital services anyway (the latest example I can think of is Arkham City), and Microsoft seems to be laxing on that recently as AoE and Microsoft Flight recently appeared on Steam. GFWL has it's problems, but so does every platform. It would be nice if they'd all use the same one that everyone loves, but I don't see that ever happening. My issues with Steam, GFWL and Origin in the past hasn't prevented me from supporting games I want to see on PC. If your issues with it have been that bad that you don't want to support one of the best console games of the generation coming to PC that's your call and I can respect that.

Obvious question: why is this such an important game to come to PC? What sets it apart from all the other console action-RPG games that never came to PC?

I read Mobygames on it, it is a spiritual successor to some PS3-only game called Demon's Souls. Great, thanks, never heard of it either. Apparently they made quite a splash in the gaming world then, when there are even petitions for the PC version (and against GFWL in it)? Is it like Skyrim and Fallout: NV together, only better?

Should there be a petition to get Demon's Souls to PC too, and why not also XBox360?

Hard to explain why it is a good game. It has great combat, unforgiving, looks nice, lots of exploration. I've heard people refer to it as a 3D Castlevania (not sure if that is accurate or not, never played it).

As for Demon's Souls, that is owned by Sony (that's why it is called Dark Souls and is a spiritual successor instead of Demon's Souls 2) and I doubt they will let it come to PC or 360.

GFWL is very disappointing, but I am getting the game regardless. I will just hope that GFWL will work well in it. It is a bit of a gamble, but the game is still worth it!

Sony provided development assistance for Demon's Souls, and published it in Japan, so it'll probably never be on a non-Sony platform.

Well, never had any issues with GFWL, played all the game I have using it offline, never losed a save of anything, too bad it will probably use the DRM flavor of GFWL like most recent games though.

Apart from that I am still not sure about the game, all peoples I know who own the game like it because it's "hardcore" to like it, but none of them actually played it for more that 2 or 3 hours before giving up.

About Demon's Souls, as people have said before, there's probably nothing to do. Too bad, because I'd be pretty excited to try it out.

About Dark Souls on PC... well I think good games should try to reach the widest audience they can, and Dark Souls is an awesome game. Probably one of the best RPGs to come out in years. It's really nothing like Bethesda RPGs honestly, and that's for the best (to be clear, I like Skyrim and Fallout 3 a lot). While there's a lot to explore, the world is way smaller and populated with very few non-hostile NPCs, who are mainly there to creep you out (and maybe sell some stuff). I'd say the best thing about Dark Souls is the combat. but I wouldn't pay too much attention to youtube videos if I were you. It's not particularly flashy or spectacular and it's actually pretty boring to look at if you don't know what's going on. Even watching PVP videos can be painful sometimes, with people mostly jumping around like idiots that are too afraid of each other to get closer. However, if you think you have enough patience to figure out the combat (it doesn't take too long) while enduring deaths and loss of progress, go for it. It's extremely rewarding when you know what you're doing and it allows for a lot of different playstyles. Also, some of the awesomest boss fights since Shadow of the Colossus. Also also, you can kill friendly NPCs (I think only one or two you can't, but I haven't tried it yet) if they annoy you. And some of them will.

I know that I don't want to support GFWL, a system that has proven to be sub-par. With a game that was already very laggy in it's PS3 and 360 builds, I don't want to see that be the case with the PC version and GFWL seems like a contributor as my experiences have given me no reason to believe that GFWL based games can't have decent ping or netcode.

Demon souls wasn't but its spiritual sequel was Dark Souls and that is the one coming to PC.

Thanks for the explanations. I was interested to hear, because some presented it as "one of the best games of last few years", while I don't recall hearing anything about either game.

I might not be that up to date of all the latest games (esp. on consoles), but I do watch and read a couple of PC/video game shows and web sites, so I usually catch the news beforehand of at least the biggest and most wanted games.

But now I know more, thanks. (and if I understood right, it isn't an actual sequel to Demon's Soulds, anymore than e.g. Bioshock is to System Shock 2?)
