The next update which happens to be titled NEXT (or No Man's Sky NEXT) is planned or scheduled for summer of 2018 and will include an Xbox version and a release for MNS' second largest market - China - on WeGame.

You can see this announcement at https://twitter.com/nomanssky/status/979294685876322304?s=21 or wade through posts on other forums where by now the announcement is somewhat deeply buried.

Good news. Hello Games gets an infusion of cash (one hopes) and we get another update. So... five months takes us about to the August anniversary. Yeah, I can wait.
As a ARG player and GameDetective I'm going to say... I hope your VR headsets are polished and ready ;)

Along with that, this truly is going to be the biggest update ever, Microsoft wanted this game... there is a reason NEXT is so big ^_^
Well, I guess it only makes sense to pitch the game to the US and to Xbawks, after the game has been streamlined and gameyfied to suit the "market demand" since before launch.

Finally, finally, the game will reach the audience Sony destroyed the game to reach in the first place. How fortunate.
Hello Games,
I enjoy most thoroughly playing No Man's Sky offline, it feels like the 60USD product, today. Unlike when it was released, when it felt like a 5 dollar screensaver.

I wish for more AI improvements to simulate other explorers, and a fix to stop me from seeing the exact same NPC in the exact same vessel, parking beside me, in the spaceport, each night, on my travels around the same star, which imbues a tiny feel of no diversity.

I also wish blackhole travel, needs a more gravity-well pull and push, effect or feel if internal ship parts are gonna be broken. A ship leaving the barrel of a wormhole should be moving terribly fast, and eratic, not stationary.

Thank you OP, for the update info. Good to hear. Hoping they focus more on offline content, and not multiplay. Multiplay features get ugly across country and language barriers. Just KISS, keep it simple stupid.

Take care, Ring A Prometheus
There was an interview today with Sean Murray to promote the July 24, 2018 release of No Man's Sky NEXT for Xbox. Since this was for Xbox there was no mention if other platforms will receive the update at the same time, earlier or later.

The link that I first posted apparently has audio cutting out halfway through so another link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2lXGEYt_n4

Original link to interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41A6c5li8X8

The main change discussed is that they will add multiplayer so that players can play with their imaginary online friends, cooperate on building bases, try to destroy the games of others by attacking them when the unwary enter a new location.
There was no discussion of existing games, saves, other platforms, etc. The only gameplay discussion was of multiplayer.

As long as MP is opt-in, I can see ways that it wouldn't suck -- as well as many, many ways that it could. They'd certainly have to find some way to lock it down so that the guys with mods aren't running S-class fighters on day one.

I finally got to the center of Euclid the hard way and was surprised / not surprised to find that many of the systems on the edge of the center had been discovered within a few days of the game's original August 2016 launch. Fine, whatever, off to the Hilbert Dimension I went.

So, put us all in real-time in the same universe without better security on hacks? Ummm... no thanks.
I think it goes without saying any modification of the base game will exclude MP working. So you are all going to have to be playing pure official vanilla for it to work.

That said i do expect to see cheat/hacks for more money etc, that stuff is always the bane of MP (and why it hardly interests me) and i expect NMS to suffer as all MP games do in this.

The saddest thing for me on the 'news' is that it was only about MP, what about all the other stuff i hope they have been working on? I'd be much more interested about all that (for example the long running issue over the progression of achievements in game being some kind of placeholder from beta/alpha).

I had put the game down from Pathfinder, waiting for the next big update (that happens to be called Next!) as i wanted to redo my mods and didn't fancy doing it until those changes had taken place first. So i look forward to getting back to the game in late June :)

Mulitplayer news was on an x-box show, console players thrive on MP... so its very wise to focus on that. You could tell he was focused and had a loose script to follow in the interview. Xbox needs that connection and a reason to release it... i guarantee we'll get more but that 2-4 multiplayer will be the shining capstone to the game for them. I am very surprised Microsoft has not forced them to release a commercial or rapid plug yet... they are less than 50 days till release.

Just MP stuff really. Waiting for the full detail update info from Hello Games AND if/when GOG is getting it!
If GOG does not get multiplayer it kind of makes the gog version worthless now, at least to me anyway.

Yep, this.

It kinda has multiplayer already but you cannot interact with Steam users. Would be a shame if we have to buy the game again...

If we have to buy the game again I'll just purchase a used PS4 disc from gamestop for 20 bucks. I'm dissappointed that nobody at GoG has addressed the multiplayer aspect yet. They've known about it for several months. I guess that's the price we pay for not needing to log in every time we want to play. In Gog"s defense I fail to see how they profit from running a free server so the GOG audience can play multiplayer.

It would be in GOG's (and HG's) best interests to facilitate MP here, because it'll provide more incentive for future players to buy the game on GOG.

No MP servers = people buying on Steam instead (or boycotting DRM so no purchase made) = less money for GOG and HG in the long run
