I spent an hour playing, wandering around LVL 1, mapping (and getting that wrong in terms of where to start) and killing some snails. Then I met the plant things and promptly got slaughtered and discovered I hadn't saved since an hour before.

Doh!

Love the atmosphere, v enjoyable and already worth what I paid for it. Admittedly having gone through the lvl once, playing it again is super quick.

Now onto lvl 2 …
Played first lvl with game party. Then after getting the feel of it created my Mino fighter, human fighter, lizzard rogue and insect mage. So far I Iike this party. Toughest fight so far was the 3 skellies in lvl 2. I'm absolutely loving this game. Back to play! (It's gonna be a long night :) )

KrankyKat: --wish experience was divided a bit more evenly between party members, especially at the start when my mage's spells always fizzle. Starting to feel like I should've made 4 fighters, lol
Yeah, an even distribution of exp might be nice. About the mages though, the spells fizzle because you have too low skill in the required spell type. You should have a basic attack spell for each elemental type at a low skill level, like just 'fire' rune to cast Fireburst.

You can check the skill page and mouse over the elemental school to get a list of things you have unlocked by raising that skill, the highlited (white) ones are unlocked and the grays need more skill. However you might see "Spell: ???", which means you haven't discovered the spell yet, but you can cast it if you just find a scroll listing the runes for it, or just experiment and find it yourself.

I guess I distributed skill points too evenly. Everything is a ???? and at lvl 3 or 4, and I'm not there yet (just started really). So basically, at the start...my mage is tossing rocks or melee to get exp. :D
I just got the game and played for a few hours. My first impression is that the game is very enjoyable and well made. I would have liked an option to make the game entirely turn-based though, but that's probably because I've got the reaction time of a sea slug. I wonder if there's room in the code for character interactions, shops and such? If so then I'm more excited about the mods and modules that will be released for the game in the future.
Really enjoying it so far, played for about 2 1/2 hours tonight and got completely sucked into the game, I was so oblivious to what was going on in the room my wife ended up shouting at me very loudly to get my attention.

It reminds me of old school dungeoon crawls and being an oldie I remember them well, someone said eye of the beholder HD, I think that is a good description. The gfx look great the music and atmosphere are fantastic, the game is simple enough to not get too confusing but complex enough to keep it interesting.

Overall well worth the money and everything I wanted from it, recommended.
awesome game

captures the spirit of the old skool dungeon crawlers, and drags them kicking and screaming into the 21st century

i too lost track of time whilst playing this.
this is a rpg that will last the test of time, just like dungeon master did before.
Currently in level 3, hard, old school mode. Graphics are reasonably pretty, although they could use some refinement, especially hidden doors (if you observe the bottom of the connecting walls, you'll notice that the hidden door doesn't 'slot' into a groove, but rather clips through the textures), also the texture resolution is just a bit low and muddy, I do, however, think the lighting is nice.

Moving away from the superficial, the gameplay is good fun; both puzzles and combat are too easy so far, regardless they provide some thrill and entertainment, the dungeons so far have been simple to traverse, I'm not having to map anything just yet, memory is enough for the layouts - I really hope this changes later on, as it's the mapping and uncertainty that creates the true sense of exploration.

Combat is clean and fun, spells look pretty, and it can be rather frantic to manage everything at the same time, especially if you're kiting a couple of enemies, or trying to lead them to a floor trap.

It's really good to see a modern game of this sort; so far I can see room for improvement, but I don't really care, it's the most fun I've had in a video game for a long time, exploration is simply something that's missing hugely from modern games. Furthermore I'm very interested in the future expansions and play made dungeons hinted at from the main menu.
I started with the default party, just to check out the game mechanics and looks... and kept playing until I just finished Level 3 (except that damn Iron Door on it!).
Yes, this is exactly what I wanted - and more. It's not only nostalgia, it's a good fun dungeoncrawling for today. Great Job!

Now THAT is old school!

LoG won't surprise the older gamers. The game is exactly what Almost Human was announcing since the very beginning of its development : a Dungeon Master 2012. We wanted it badly, we got it!

I've completed 3 levels, and so far I'm not disappointed. The puzzles are predictable for the most part but that's just the beginning. Everything is there to remind you the old time : the floor tiles that activate/deactivate traps, loose stones that open up "secret" passages, a lever here and there... classic.

The atmosphere is great and the skeleton legionnaire are fearsome (I had to trick them a couple times to avoid a confrontation with 2 of those at the same time). Poison is really bad too.

Thumbs up!
Playing in old school mapping everything out on graph paper and taking my time to find all the secrets, just got to the 3rd floor, and im loving every moment.
Idle questions probably not worth new threads: Does anyone know how many levels to the game there are? Also, are the general items a random generation thing per new game, or static?

Just finished level 3, and having fun so far. Playing on normal is still pretty challenging.

However, there is one major flaw I perceive in this game: enemy balancing. Up until level 3, most enemies could be challenging, but slow enough as to where I could maneuver myself to avoid most damage. Spiders however, move very quickly and I simply don't have the finger dexterity of my videogaming youth to avoid them very well. Furthermore, they hit like trucks and poison you, and have tons of HP on top of it all. Oh, and there's a million of them. I had to resort to 'cheese' tactics for some rooms, opening the door, taking a whack, then closing it. Needless to say, I don't particularly care for that style of gameplay. I also resent being punished in a tile-based dungeon crawler for having somewhat dodgy reflexes. Quite annoying.

Despite that one con, the pros are enough to keep me having fun. The dungeon is very atmospheric, textures are nice and sharp, and the lighting effects are very nicely done. The puzzles are getting more challenging as well, which is good. Secret areas are also fairly abundant, and finding nice loot is always rewarding. The combat can also be quite fun as long as you're not fighting grossly overpowered spiders (seriously, those things need a good nerfing, lol).

I can't wait for the editing tools. I'm sure the community will come up with some truly amazing dungeons to keep the game alive for a good long time. To say nothing of any content Almost Human may release further down the line.

Man... Stayed up late tonight and played through 1st level. Fun so far. Pretty much what I expected.
