My first impressions are quite positive. After playing 1 hour I was pretty happy with the purchase, graphic is nice and so far the rpg system seems interesting. The way you cast spells also piqued my curiosity.
The only thing so far which made me a bit frustrated is the speed (way too rapid) of turning / lack of smoothness while turning. It just made my head hurt at first, though I got the hange of it later on. I hope they add some minor patch to make it a bit slower (Or maybe I just can't find it in the options menu).

Absolutely love it.. it's a death fest in the key of Dungeons of Dredmor (but in first person).

What I mean is that death comes fast and often!

Thank goodness I am a habitual saver, a habit I have learned from playing games like Eye of the Beholder and others, similar since the 90's.

The Download was fast and the install was painless. So far it runs as smooth as glass with all settings cranked.

If you like dungeon crawling like Might and Magic or Dungeon Master, etc. get this game, the play is tense and satisfying!

Wonderful game and well worth the money!

One gripe though is that it really needs a Quicksave ;)

I think this game might mean a new beginning for an old genre.

(A rhetoric question, I don't expect them to seriosuly answer me here : D)

Played about an hour now. My only issue up to now is that i'm not used to the movement yet, but that's of course something that comes with more playtime. :)

For comic effect, i'm going with 3 male minotaurs and a female human.
(okay, it is probably only funny in my mind)

One bug i noticed is that if you put a torch back on the wall when it is almost out, it burns full power again and does not burn out. (if you take it back, you get the smoldering piece of wood again, so you cannot reset your torches though)

Really good first impression. Makes you want to create your own dungeons. Did notice a couple of bugs though :

1. For some reason clicking on "New Game" from the options screen does nothing. I had to use the return key instead. Clicking on the other options worked though. Weird!

2. There's no sound for the first fire spell when you don't hit anything. It's silent! Am I doing something wrong??

Apart from that, I can't stop playing it! Now for the next one, I'd love it to have outdoor areas, NPCs and quests in the style of Lands Of Lore.

You know? I love hunting down dark corridors and dungeons with unknown fears. This game gives this special feeling from on the first minute, when the wind blows up with its eerie sound and you gonna hear the cryings from the deep. Wow, what a feeling! Keeping me up to older but better days of gaming, when an adventurer was for real something like this.

THANK YOU, GOG ... for bringing us such a diamond. And thank you to the developers. I hope you earn enough money for this great game. Keep up this work!

I think it's great. And i don't played "Eye of the beholder" or any other similar classic (my first Pc it's from 2002).

Old school Dungeon Master/EOTB fan here.

Just done my first two hours of Grimrock, best game I've played for years.

Really looking forward to whatever these guys put out next.

Well, I got it started, and I'm pretty much absolutely new to dungeon crawler sorta games, but I'm interested in the genre. Unfortunately, I'm stuck on the second locked door in the first stage. I've taken the hint of the loose rock, but I'm absolutely clueless.

I know, right? When I first found a rock I got excited too. :P

So far, I'm liking this.

I'm near the end of Level 2 with the pre-generated party and while the puzzles are a bit easy, the combat, leveling and other central mechanics are quite solid and clearly had a lot of thought and polish put into them by the developers.

The graphics are good too, and run perfectly at maxed settings on my old GTX 550 card.

With the promise of a level editor and new dungeons in updates, this could keep me going until Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun Returns come out.

Not alot of options with the character creation, the traits are a nice addition to the attributes though. Once I had made my group I was really eager to see the intro video to get a feel of the story.. WTH - a picture show?! :D

But other than that it's really good. Like others said, the atmosphere is awesome.

Extra cred for the "old school" option. It removes the in-game map all together.

Played about an hour and a half so far. Game looks gorgeous. Still a bit fumbly with the controls, but getting the hang of it. Left-right click functions are what are getting me the most -- I keep picking up items instead of using them. My girlfriend and me jumped a mile when a soldier sneaked up on us! On the second level, excited to play some more.

Initial thoughts:

--could use sliders for audio instead of just on/off option
--on faster PC's (i-7 920) movement response is almost too rapid, wouldn't mind a slider to set that as well
--graphics are fine/look good for the genre/engine (maxed, GTX-590/3GB)
--wish experience was divided a bit more evenly between party members, especially at the start when my mage's spells always fizzle. Starting to feel like I should've made 4 fighters, lol
--I like that you can pick up rocks again after throwing them
--I don't like how ground objects get kicked forward when I move to the tile to pick them up (and I can't pick them up without moving closer).

Overall: On Normal difficulty, I still only have rocks, a club, and torches. I get excited when I see a pair of woven pants! Some enemies kick my butt if there's more than one at a time. In other words...having loads of fun! :D
