Having no nostalgia for this and expecting more of a Etrain Odyssey/SMT Strange Journey vibe I'm pleasantly surprised.
It's like playing Dungeon Master. With better graphics, slightly less flexible party design, noticably more flexible character design, and puzzles that I'm not sure are quite as polished.

But seriously, "like dungeon master" isn't even close to strong enough. The dungeon dressing is the same even. Note: This is not a complaint.
amazing game
i really like those type of games and this one has been done with a lot of thought
the atmosphere is great and the puzzles are awesome just like they were in the old games
too bad there is not much of a story here like eye of beholder games.
but still great experience
I hate all the clicking involved in setting up spells and drinking potions.
i love it till now. i already wait to pre-order any kind of expansion / grimlock2 / dlc. Everything till now seems so new (even if it reminds my my youth) Thanks a lot for a great game :)
i replayed this game few times( and i mean first 2levels) because my crew was terrible.. Now im at lvl4 and this game is getting more interesting :) i love these puzzles..
I'm level 4, 4 hours so far (says the game, i think it's 2-3 more) and i love it. At first i think there will be only exploration and a good batle system. But no, it's a high amount of exploration, great combat and AWESOME puzzles.

The only thing i regret it's that i started the game with the default party, but i will replay it with crazy custom one...

Shizumi: My first impressions are quite positive. After playing 1 hour I was pretty happy with the purchase, graphic is nice and so far the rpg system seems interesting. The way you cast spells also piqued my curiosity.
The only thing so far which made me a bit frustrated is the speed (way too rapid) of turning / lack of smoothness while turning. It just made my head hurt at first, though I got the hange of it later on. I hope they add some minor patch to make it a bit slower (Or maybe I just can't find it in the options menu).
I find it excellent.
The the turning animation is optional, it can be disabled to more closely emulate some of the the older dungeon crawlers (like Eye of the Beholder).
I'm on my second playthrough now, so it's a little late for a first impression I guess. I think the fact that I'm immediately playing through a second time right after finishing it speaks volumes about how great this game is. I rarely play through a game twice and even more rarely right after finishing the first playthrough.

It's a simple concept executed with style and great attention to detail. I never knew I could have so much fun being eaten by spiders or electrocuted by undead squid mages. I'm going through it again to see if I can find all the secrets without cheating.
I only briefly tried Dungeon Master years ago, but in the end didn't get sucked into it. 1,5 hours into LoG and I'm still fumbling with the keys sometimes (turning when I want to strafe). It's fun though and the atmosphere is great. I especially enjoy the ambient sounds and monster noises. "What kind of abomination makes such noises!?", but it's not like playing Amnesia. I managed to cripple my mage too in the beginning, but things have gone pretty smoothly otherwise.

Can't wait for the developers to publish the level editor for more content.
Very immersive lost myself in it for hours last night.

I feel I made a party build mistake. Well 1 mistake I like my other choices. I've thought about starting over just to change it. I made 1 Warrior, 1 rogue and 2 mages. The problem lies mainly in my rogue, he is very squishy and is forced up front since my mages take the rear. at this point is my weakest character in both damage and defense.
My Minotaur Warrior is slowly getting better but he is currently below my mages which attack much harder than he does right now.

I have my mage powers split one is earth and ice and the other fire and air. Works out nice.

As of right now on level 3 my mages are doing most of my work with their great spells and have even had to go it on their own a couple times now when stuff has killed my warrior and rogue.

I'm thinking I should have made two warriors and 2 mages.

I love finding secrets. Though I hope they get sneakier on the types of wall buttons and such. I can spot that rock wall pattern pretty well now..

The smaller poison spitting fungus's are a pain in the arse, they hurt pretty bad hate those enemies right now. . My two mages decimated a troop of 4 of those spear soliders with ease, it was kinda sad.
WOW!!! I think I kept the grin on my face even in my sleep after playing it the for the first time :D.
Games that make me feel this engaged and motivated to play them are few and far between.
I knew I'd love this game when I saw it in early stages of development, and I followed the blog religiously up until release.

I bought it because it is Old School in concept - it pays tribute to Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and other great dungeon crawlers - notice I say 'pays tribute to' - not the same as.

I've seen criticism for a number of aspects of the game which to be honest had me scratching my head. The creators of this game were a team of four (I think) who were working for very little money on a project they loved. And it showed in the final game which was polished and beautiful - with a nice hard edge to the gameplay depending on how you played it.

They could have copied the usual D&D formula for character creation but instead they decided to build their own world. Do the critics have any idea how difficult that is? Trying to balance a game world from scratch?

This is hopefully the start of at least a trilogy that will see the gameworld, characters and plot really open up and develop. I think that the developers have built a game on very solid foundations and there is huge potential.

I'm just about to go down to level 8 in my game. I'm playing on hard and Old School mode and boy is it a challenge! The puzzles have increased in dfifficulty at just the right pace and the result has been a game that has had me scratching my head on a dozen occasions so far. You have to make some tough decisions on what skills to level up in and what equipment to carry and wear.

I love the combat system (my opinion and I know there are those that hate it), and I like the spell system (although Dungeon Master system was better). I would of liked to see a few more tar beads scattered around though :-) The puzzles in this game are simply the best I've come across - I replayed Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder very recently and they were a piece of p!ss compared to many of the puzzles in LoG.

Food is just on the right side of scarce, and I gave a sigh of relief when I found that room with snails that regenerated on level 6. Truly a life saver for me as my party was getting a bit peckish.

Yes, I admit the character creation is comparatively simple but I'm sure that this is something that will improve and mature with time as the LoG wolrd develops.

I think that aside from some minor gripes this game has enhanced and improved the genre. I also think that the critics should take a second to remember that this isn't some huge company that could afford to pour hundreds of thousands of pounds into development; this was a hell of an achievement with the resources available and I can't wait to see how the developers take the game world to the next level.

I love this game!
