Plentiful by any definition!

Agarest: Generations of War - Collector's Edition, a fantastic kawaii tactical RPG coming with a full soundtrack, digital artbook, and more sweet, sweet bonus content, is available 50% off, DRM-free on GOG.com. With such a discount we don't see a good reason to pass on the collector's version, and get the cheaper regular edition, but if you make that call remember that you can always go for an upgrade later. The -50% discount for all three items (collectors edition, standard edition, and collector's edition upgrade) lasts until Monday, December 8, at 10:59AM GMT.

Agarest: Generations of War - Collector's Edition includes many unique features that cannot be found in any other Strategy Role Playing Game. It takes place across 5 generations of heroes, starting with your first character, Leonhardt. During each generation you will build relationships with 3 different female party members, and at the end of each generation's story arc you must choose to marry one of the girls. Unite with your chosen heroine and use the “Soul Breed” system to shape the fate of the next generation of heroes. Build your ultimate army of warriors and master Extra Skills, Special Arts and Over Kills to defeat colossal enemies! Choose the path of Darkness or Light through a truly epic story, spanning multiple generations, and battle hundreds of different creatures using an array of character abilities, in a compelling and innovative turn-based combat system.

or play Love Plus as an alternative. :P
Despite some negative reviews, I actually bought it. :-)
Game looks fun and I want to try it for myself. It's not that expensive (at least when on -50% sale) so why not? It looks pretty unique for a PC game (and I don't own any console, so not many opportunities for J-games for me).
Anyone who's interested in the game but doesn't want to grind should use Cheat Engine.

I'm very happy with GOG's decision concerning the DLCs.

Niggles: Hows the soundtrack? (dont think anyones mentioned it).

And buy it people. It helps to bring other future games from the same dev/publisher in the future. Just because some don't like this game - doesnt automatically mean its a bad game. reviews are subjective opinions... and everyone has one.. If your truly interested in it, try it.
I have seen so many gamers make that assumption like it is guaranteed in stone, when actually it's an exception and never a rule. Some games sell "well," but receive no further work or contributions from the developer. Others appear to sell "mediocre-ly," however receive continued support and future works from the developer/publishers.

Sells are a huge factor in any digital client's developer/publisher agreements, but are not the only things looked at. The client's user reception plays a significant role in it too. Many indie developers made the mistake of advertising their game beyond what it actually is on the largest digital gaming client out there (don't think I have to mention). The User base gets hyped beyond measure which translates to hundreds of pre-orders. Only to receive a wave of backlash upon release because the game is not as advertised.

In that case (won't mention the game) had good advertisements, large interested user base, and good sells. But, you're not seeing that developer adding anymore to their works on that particular client. Whereas on another client that specializes in a gala of Indie games, you see more of that developer's games and support.

"Trying it" is not a simple way to decide on the first Agarest (It is to Zero to a certain extent, and definitely guaranteed for 2). I loved this game at first, but quickly overstays its welcome. This is not like Disgaea or FF Tactics where the random battles get more interesting and the music varies, rather everything feels rehashed and the random BM only changes on chapters. The Chapter Settings and Skip Animation button are the two things that make the grindfest tolerable. Unless you grind in certain locations, which is a necessity without the DLC, the longer you take the worse the ending becomes.

My Best Suggestion is to watch user videos first, and then decide from there.

Frostyfirefly: Yes, that's basically it, it will take half a year or so of repetitive combat otherwise.

Silverhawk170485: That's what the name of the game sais "Generations of War". You have to play it generations long, in realtime. :p

I also think that the first intention of the developer wasn't to rip off the gamers. I think the game was originally ment for gamers on the asian market. Asian gamers usually like a lot of grinding while for example european gamers like to see a fast progress and victory.

That was also a reason why Daemon Souls was released in America and Europe long after it was released in Asia. The publishers weren't sure if the american and european gamers will like a game with this difficulty and if they can sell it in these countrys well. Such games are more for hardcore gamers.
Generations, heh, good one! :)

I still think they wanted to rip off gamers, there are ways to extend gameplay without making it tedious.

When it comes to Demon Souls, I think the difference is worlds apart; that game brings new elements into play with each level; this one, does not. Skill difficulty is ok, but grind-for-a-month difficulty just so you can move on to the next level (on the same map), in my opinion, is not. Anyone who has studied a bit of marketing can see what they pulled there.
Thank you GOG-Team. First i wanted buy on the Steamsale but now it's part of my GOG Library:-) So i am looking forward and hope to see Elminage Gothic and Agarest:GoW Zero soon here, too.

Thank you so much!
Wutrobny dźak!

It's called asian grinder for a reason :P different mentality in gaming.
I consider Demon souls pretty westernized to start with it just doesn't cater much to casual gamers.
Agreed though that they tried to achieve westernization by adding paid DLC is somewhat cheap.

Actually it is quite nice to have a mmorpg like game as single player, drm free and not being built around a cash shop . I mean look at Guild Wars 2, apart from the WvW part it is pure grind and even grind where ANet tries to stomp out every niche which players find to farm gold.

Many mmos use grind to stretch content and nowadays they even use it to sell shortcuts through the content. Perhaps they tried that approach for a single player game?

The Let's Play guys seem to have fun with it and all the let's plays I've looked at are quite long, one even with 200 vids each lasting 20-40 min.
