Plentiful by any definition!

Agarest: Generations of War - Collector's Edition, a fantastic kawaii tactical RPG coming with a full soundtrack, digital artbook, and more sweet, sweet bonus content, is available 50% off, DRM-free on GOG.com. With such a discount we don't see a good reason to pass on the collector's version, and get the cheaper regular edition, but if you make that call remember that you can always go for an upgrade later. The -50% discount for all three items (collectors edition, standard edition, and collector's edition upgrade) lasts until Monday, December 8, at 10:59AM GMT.

Agarest: Generations of War - Collector's Edition includes many unique features that cannot be found in any other Strategy Role Playing Game. It takes place across 5 generations of heroes, starting with your first character, Leonhardt. During each generation you will build relationships with 3 different female party members, and at the end of each generation's story arc you must choose to marry one of the girls. Unite with your chosen heroine and use the “Soul Breed” system to shape the fate of the next generation of heroes. Build your ultimate army of warriors and master Extra Skills, Special Arts and Over Kills to defeat colossal enemies! Choose the path of Darkness or Light through a truly epic story, spanning multiple generations, and battle hundreds of different creatures using an array of character abilities, in a compelling and innovative turn-based combat system.

Niggles: Why do people who have the game elsewhere decide to come on here and dump on the release AND put up a review which obviously isnt based on the GOG release? (i dont think im the only one who hates this kind of thing).
Niggles, you have been Niggling everyone all the time; just take a chill pill and relax, people could take it personal.

Saw this afternoon the announcement of this game. Decided to buy the collectors edition.
I had this game wishlisted at steam for a while, but so far didn't buy it there. Now i see no reason to buy it there at all, even if it's discounted there too. If i look to the screenshots of the game it reminds me a bit to Ys Origin, but then with superpowers. And if the dlc's are actually just cheats and which you can also get just to play the game, then it's no loss at all. It seems then it's a dirty way of the dev to make extra money of it. A new direction in the world of dlc's. Didn't knew that one. Glad that GoG didn't provide such garbage.
I only wonder if Zero would make it to here, as that one ain't a cheat item.

True, it isn't that bad of a game at all (specially if you are tolerant to extreme grinds), but that was a pretty evil move on their part.

For the same reason people that have a physical release of a DOS game do the same? To inform others about the game? Take a look at MoO3 and Daikatana for similar reviews.

I don't mind grinding. Used to play some hack 'n slash rpg's as sacred and diablo II (and also sacred 2 fallen angel), where grinding plays a role. Also play the online rpg Path of Exile, which is actually alot of grinding.

Keep in mind that lot of the games on GoG were released in the time that GoG didn't exist. Also people have often the game already on disc and don't have the need to buy the game again. Yeah, there are people who do that as well, but not all of them do that.

Looks interesting, wishlisted...

GOG.com: With such a discount we don't see a good reason to pass on the collector's version, and get the cheaper regular edition
I made that mistake when buying Divinity: Dragon Commander some time ago, I saw the game cheap and purchase it, played it, liked it and noticed there was a kind of "collector's" version too and included some DLC but I didn't noticed it, so I had to purchase the DLC as standalone product and was a bit expensive buying game+dlc than just buying the "collector's" version. Not going to make the same mistake again.

JudasIscariot: So you didn't like Lucas Arts, then? :) I thought those were some pretty good games :)

IronArcturus: Will we be seeing more LucasArts games on GOG soon? :) Maybe around Xmas?
I wish some day they get Rogue Squadron... I'm sure I'd not be the only one to buy it at day one.

Now, for the Agarest game, I already own the trilogy on PS3, the android port of the first one and the first two on Steam, but I'm willing to purchase it from GOG(which I'm doing while I write this). I'm always the kind of guy who will double dip a game if GOG sells it regardless if I have it on Steam. I really prefer GoG, so I'm looking forward for more games, and if Ghostlight LTD is going to bring Agarest Zero here I'll buy it too and if Agarest 2 will be added here then I have no reason to get it on Steam.

EDIT:

Frostyfirefly: (don't judge me!) :P

JudasIscariot: Whoops....too late for that :P
I bought a limited edition too, the one of Agarest 2 for PS3, but just because it was as expensive as purchasing the game alone in my country, so I prefer to get the whole package rather than just the game for that price. It contained a towel, an inflatable doll(I guess it is small I haven't checked it... don't ask about it XD) and an artbook(which by comments from other users say the japanese version had better stuff and even better artbook).

I love RPGS and I can tolerate a lot of grinding. Even still, the reviews are bad enough that I'm hesitating. It sounded interesting when I first heard about it. I'll have to think about this. I won't be getting it soon anyway so if anyone has a good reason to get it, I'd love to hear it. :)

I've got to say, yesterday I was a bit cranky as I got stuck in Brussels due to a transport strike and wasted both time and money trying to get back to Gent. So while I stand by everything I said, I'd like to add that I heard the later games in the series are much better than this first one, and if those do come to GOG I'll probably buy them. So keep them coming.
Instabuy when pay day comes around.
I wonder if Idea Factory will be releasing more of their ps3 games to pc at some stage

rtcvb32: So the DLC here is only items to boost the game(s) speed?
avatar
Frostyfirefly: Yes, that's basically it, it will take half a year or so of repetitive combat otherwise.
That's what the name of the game sais "Generations of War". You have to play it generations long, in realtime. :p

I also think that the first intention of the developer wasn't to rip off the gamers. I think the game was originally ment for gamers on the asian market. Asian gamers usually like a lot of grinding while for example european gamers like to see a fast progress and victory.

That was also a reason why Daemon Souls was released in America and Europe long after it was released in Asia. The publishers weren't sure if the american and european gamers will like a game with this difficulty and if they can sell it in these countrys well. Such games are more for hardcore gamers.

Those bad reviews make me hesitating...

Frostyfirefly: I bought the collector's edition a while ago, with the boobie mouse pad and the sexy anime girl pillow case (don't judge me!) :P
Such a shame that it was the mouse pad and not the pillow... I mean, how could a guy not want to rest his head on a boobie pillow? :-p

Edit: On the topic of the game, wish-listed for now. Still recovering from the Fall Sale and even if I do get it it is going to be a long time before I start let alone finish it if ever.

Hows the soundtrack? (dont think anyones mentioned it).

And buy it people. It helps to bring other future games from the same dev/publisher in the future. Just because some don't like this game - doesnt automatically mean its a bad game. reviews are subjective opinions... and everyone has one.. If your truly interested in it, try it.

TurnipSlayerr: For people wondering about some missing DLCs, it's essentially as some people are saying, these DLCs which we don't have are things such as stat increases or other items which are unlockable in-game. We decided not to go with these DLCs as they don't actually add significant new content to the game
I applaud that decision.

Assuming this doesn't magically become regionally priced like Heretic, I'll pick it up on the weekend.
