I understood that the decoder could use the code, the poster just wants to know what the message was (me too). I maybe managed to decode it, but the decoder wanted me to download the content in a weird format. And since I already own all Valve games I want I decided not to risk it.

Are you talking about what drxenija posted? I know what encoding is used, but don't get a valid file. The file size is wrong and the CRC check fails.

Yes. I altered the text a bit to get some large sized result, but as I said, I didn't want to download it from an unknown source. The alterations might have broken the whole thing and returned some nonsense, which is why I said I maybe decoded it.

There were some other encoding tools available for download, but I didn't want to run random .exe files from unknown sources either. The size of the result makes me believe I messed the whole thing. I got some errors too so I don't know if the whole thing is broken to begin with, but googling those errors returned some results.

I am the creator of the giveaway. For those interested, yes the original pastebin was a screw up. Although it should have worked being in text form, it broke being put onto pastebin.

I, or steamgifts, have no control over things on this site, but please do not leak the answers here, especially if you have an account at steamgifts as well as you can get suspended over there.

If you want to participate in the puzzle, please do so on the steamgifts forum and follow their rules.

Also, even though you have to save the file to disk, there is no harm since you do not have to execute anything. The puzzle should be solvable strictly online with only a temporary storage of a harmless file on your HDD for the first two stages.

It's fine. I made sure it was solveable and got anxious and just put the text into pastebin. I thought I had tested it, but I guess not. It would have been a lot cooler had it worked that way as that was the purpose of the binary-to-text encoding I used.
