I don't like having keys go to waste.
And I do nab things for free sometimes, even on GOG, either through contests, or something offered, or whatnot, but since I'm very able to buy things for myself, I'd rather leave the chance to someone else. ;)

I think it's the idea of having yet another program running in the background that people don't like. And since the games are available on Steam, many would rather get it there.

I think it's because steam is more popular. Some do use desura or even learn about desura from finding keys on the internet.

Right. It's also older. IIRC, Desura only started out last year.
