Wraith: I guess someone didn't check to make sure the version they uploaded to Steam said "Version 1.0"
avatar
Gersen: If I was cynical I would say that they were unable to finish the game on time and release "any" version they had hopping to have enough time to finish it before release date.
According to at least one reviewer this is a dev build they received about 3 months ago to try, the current review version (released the day they went gold) is much improved over the version opening on steam theres some thought that maybe the wrong file was given the consumer flag accidently (steam os the release system used for the reviewers as well)

Pemptus: How do you publish a game by accident? My mind is officially boggled.
Never played Prince Of Persia 3D then?
Well, any publicity is good publicity.. Right?
Dead Island wasn't getting much attention as it was, and now a lot of it will be due to how embarrassingly broken this accidental release is, and the memory will linger even after they have resolved it. This is a disaster for Deep Silver.

Hopefully they will make sure they don't repeat the same mistake for future games.

Arkose: This is a disaster for Deep Silver.
When has Deep Silver ever been good at releasing?

Arkose: ..This is a disaster for Deep Silver.
It's a deep silver game? Well, after they fix things and game isn't crappy, I'll buy it, if I have the money and wait for the secret files 3.

Well, I don't know about that; I think Risen is the only game published by them that I've played, and that was released in a very solid state (in fact the issues fixed in the first patch are things many players wouldn't even come across).

The quality of the developer will factor into things too, of course, but a lot of the blame will fall on Deep Silver.

Oh their games are always better after the first patch but unfortunately they seem to have a habit of putting the nonQA'd version on the retail disks
My new policy of only buying must-have games on release day pays off almost immediately.
wow what a screw up,but a game with good co-op cant be bad even if it is , just enable friendly fire and slaughter your co-op mates like they do in magicka for the fun.
So..does this affect the retail versions as well? Just curious :)

Edit. This case Retail = Physical DVD version

KneeTheCap: I'm still waiting for my retail disc, I wonder if those are affected too?
It's a Steamworks game, so every single version is affected.

Guess this one time I should be lucky that I'm being forced to wait until November before Valve will finally let me play it. It might actually be patched by then ;)
Steamworks - Check
Console Port - Check
Hundreds of Bugs on Release - Check
Not caring and actually releasing it when it's full of bugs and noclip - Check

It's like the developers are screaming 'TAKE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE'

The devs have posted an apology apparently. Current rumor is steam and deepsilver messed up and put up the wrong version.
