Maxvorstadt: Wow, the sale ended while I slept. Was there any special thing at the end? Some appearance of Jack Keane or so?
This sale was so confusing. Everything, except the bundles, showed up for about 10 times and you could never be sure when something you missed shows up. Alsl, I thought that the sale would continue at least thru this day, or else I wouldn`t have gone to sleep.
And the thing with buying 10 games for a freebie... Well, this was too much. I was able to get 7 games during the sale, not everyone likes every game!

InfraSuperman: Yeah, I feel this insomnia sale was handled extremely poorly. From the selection of games, to the decision to give every appearance of a title only a handful of copies, to that wretched "bonus-system" for freebies (which I am slowly starting to hate in general). It was a mess; and the fact that the stock of free games was exhausted so suddenly will scare away a lot of new customers who may feel like they were scammed.
Yeah, the freebie thing felt like when a supermarket says that they have super cheap "high end" computers (Aldi, I`m looking at you!) and then they are sold out after one hour.
I still think this was a good sale, but that's probably because I got everything I wanted on the first day and wasn't burned by the promise of a free game. I got Sins of the Solar Empire for free, so I would never even dare to complain.

Thanks again GoG Team, who knows how hard it is to Keep these sales up and deal with the overwhelming traffic and unexpected Problems.
Obviously the point of the way this sale was delivered, was to sell/get rid of as many copies as possible.
That's why there were short rounds of limited copies from a certain game. So people didn't know if the game will be avilable again and how many copies there will be, if another around for that game was going to be released - so games were bought straight away, even though certain titles could be given better discounts.
The free game reward option was nice but nothing much, that will stimulate a person to buy more games - I doubt there were many people, who bought 10 games just because they really and badly wanted to play them or even gift them to a friend who has some of them wishlisted.
Having to spend extra dollars to make the 10 game count to receive a random free game wasn't much of bargain for me. Not at all. Not that the games were bad. There were amazing titles.
There were 2 or 3 games from my wishlist, but one of the games was already bundled elsewere and it was a dirt cheap for me to buy it in a bundle split . The other game was Turok, which I would be really happy to buy but not with the discount it was offered. So in the end if I am willing to buy bunch of games just for the buzz to have some extra stuff ( that I may or may not play some day ) or just to give them away - I would, but only if there were decent ammount of them sold with 80-90% off. At least that's what I think. But then again it all depends of whats the cut GoG gets from all those games and what is the agreement with the developer and publisher.

I think that a better stimulation for buyers would be if they are given the option to receive additional discount if 3+(60% off in aadition ), 4+ ( 70% off in additionn ), 5+ ( 75% off in addition ) games are bought - like Humble Bundle does, for example. Though they do such sales for a single publisher games only.

Also those sales could be made much more interesting, and give a chance of other users to interact more with each other and discuss the sale - such as live chat box below and maybe some sort of short game brakes( why not a short game made by the GoG team exclusively for that sale? ) between sale rounds, that will allow other users to play and compete with each other. And in the end the winner gets a free random game, or gets added to a pool of other users, from which a random person will be chosen to receive a game.
Because in the end those sales get boring and sitting and watching the screen for couple of hours is not fun anymore, especially when you don't have enough stimul to do that and maybe participate in the sale.

Anyways that is my opinion. And this post became too long... Sorry ! Hope there are bigger and better sales.

Painted_Doll: Looks like i'm the only one in here who would like to see a normal sale not this kind of " who is fast enough to click on the buy now button " ..... .

Some of us has a job and a real life . For example i don't use any computer or have internet access during my work .

Boycotting this ........ .
They do plenty of other normal sales throughout the year, this is their "fun" one.

As for a boycott, I'm sure that really hurt them in the last minutes of a 4~5 day sale.

I agree, though in this case, it may actually be worse, since there was a certain amount of investment required. Now, I do find it foolish to buy something just because there's promise of getting something else for free, but there are probably lots of people who do that and could feel cheated. I think their biggest mistake was that they didn't announce the limited number of free games more clearly; perhaps they should have included another counter just for that purpose. Again, I kind of feel they shot themselves in the foot in regards to new customers with this, since first impressions are so important.

I feel reminded of all those damn "bonus-stamp" promotions stores do all the time now, where they go "Collect X number of points to get this saucepan for only 40% of the original price!", never mind that you'd have to spend about 300€ for that 50€ discount and the offer only lasts about three weeks.
Oh, did the insomnia sale end? *yawn* I must have slept through it.

You should have seen what happened during the Great Fallout Giveaway of 2013. Compared to that, the technical issues of this insomnia sale are not even worth mentioning. We were afraid GOG's servers would melt during that particular event.

Good 4+ day nap there.

Glad this is finally over.

Niggles: Are you downloading via galaxy or gogdownloader links? Mine keeps coming up with 404 error. other downloads bring up page fine..
avatar
flammenbringer: Have you tried the direct links? For us Linuxers the only way + it works like a charm. :)
I downloaded all three games by download links (I always saved the installers in my drives). I installed the games by the installers and then the Galaxy detected the game automatically.

InfraSuperman: Great Fallout Giveaway of 2013 [...] GOG's servers would melt during that particular event.
They did, this is already post apocalyptic GoG built by some raiders which have gathered the remains of GoG HQ and built a new enclave by utilizing pre-apocalyptic tech.
Why do you think we got regional pricing, region locks, early access, outdated versions, pre-order bonus and day 1 dlc now?

I've always felt that gog did their best to give their customers a fair deal, but with the way the "1 freebie after 10 purchases" disappeared, this is the first time that I've felt as if gog had done us in.
I agree with alot of people's comments thus so far. Last year was great, there were tons of games offered. I only occassionally saw repeated games. This year was horrible with the same games repeated it seemed like every hour or 2. After a few hours, I started to see all games repeated and no fresh offers. There weren't many games to choose from at all. Last year I bought like 30 games, this year 0 (of course I have so many more games now than I did back then, so I happened to already own some of the games shown, but still though). There weren't that many classic games offered, which is why I liked 2015 Double Insomnia, almost all offers weren't repeated over and over and over again, and it offered new and old games equally. I couldn't stop looking at the screen for the Double Insomnia promo. I found myself even looking at it while at work when I was supposed to be working. This year, I was barely driven to look at it even at home. It just seemed more like an ordinary sale that we always have except you have to wait for each one. Last year also had more games at deeper discounts. There were a few over 60% but not many, because most seemed to be newer games.
So is there going to be a proper regular Easter sale, or was that it?

AB2012: So is there going to be a proper regular Easter sale, or was that it?
If you look at the Sleepy Sheep wallpapers mentioned in the original post, there's one with a rabbit bringing coffee to a sheep. Hardly conclusive, but it may mean that this sale covers GOG's easter commitments too. ^_^
I guess it ended at some point in the last 12 hours, eh? [yawn]

I've got no real problem with the Insomnia sale concept overall (I rather enjoyed Double Insomnia last year), but this sale not only had a lot of problems (technical and conceptual alike...including its strange name), but was boring as hell, to boot. I think the only GOG sale I've experienced that was more monotonous than this one was last year's Big Summer Sale...and that one was boring mostly because of its length.

It's good to experiment and try new things (though I'm not sure what point there is to forcing people to use their store credit), but I would say that this sale was not exactly an unqualified success, regardless of what GOG's sales figures tell them.

GOG doesn't really do holiday sales, per se (though they often hold sales around major and selected minor holidays); their bigger sales are usually season-themed in some way. This one served as their spring sale.
