So it's over ...

Insomnia is still not my preferred style of a sale and the choice of games on this sale also wasn't in my favor (too many indies, too few classics). In the beginning I did not like the fast pace with the small lots, but the shorter cycles and the frequent repetitions actually made it a lot easier to grab the few games I wanted. So for me the shorter cycles and the frequent repetitions are a clear improvement.

Technically the sale was somewhat disappointing. Buggy as usual in the beginning GOG did not manage to provide a link to the game card even to the end of the sale. Not marking games on your wishlist and not adding a last chance banner also were regressions. The bundle handling was dissatifying. You could not see what's exactly in a bundle without checking it out. And you could not buy individual games from a bundle when you already did own all of the games. Last but not least running out of freebies already so early was embarrassing.

But what I hated most was again GOGs (non-)communication. Please stop spreading out messages "somewhere" and communicate here on your site (if not on the front page then at least in your official sale thread).

AB2012: So is there going to be a proper regular Easter sale, or was that it?

I had the same questions, sadly looks like that was it. I was hoping for a proper Easter sale after the Insomnia one but nope :(

Not to mention how so many of us missed out on freebies even though I was on every day. They ran out way too fast ! Agreed in all your points.

I don't want "more" just a useful sale. Had 6 games on the wishlist that were in the sale, ended up buying zero. For those of us with jobs such as bathroom / kitchen fitter where you leave for work early morning and typically don't see (and are too busy to see) a screen all day, then come home and have a busy evening (close relative is in hospital), these weekday "Insomnia" sales are totally useless. "Quick, buy now before 'stocks' run out within 60s before being magically restocked an hour later" doesn't even make any sense for digitally distributed games that obviously don't "run out of stock". I'm simply not getting the so-called "fun-ness" in pretending to have fake manufactured "shortages".

As for the weekend promo, already got everything I want on there. Just wondered if there's likely to be a proper big regular sale any time soon.

I understand.

But my tactics in this sale was different: I didn't wait specifically for any game, I just turned on my computer and did go to GOG.com and ... well, if there was something interesting in Insomnia Sale I did buy it. If not, I let go. And came back hours or even a day later. And, well I got D&D Enhanced Pack and some other games.

Pure luck, nothing more. Or as they say: I was on the right place at right time.
Definitely agree with those saying the previous Insomnia sales were better - I didn't buy anything at all this time around. It just seemed to be the same few titles over and over and lacked the anticipation of "what's coming next?" that drew me in on previous sales.

Still love GOG, but yeah, this sale was not for me :)

Its over? Good!!!
For me these Insomnia Sales are the worst.
And looking at the stats...only 3 times new games? That was a better weekend sale.
My résumé of this Insomnia Sale is that to me it was the worst of all. One could say it was very Meeeeh... Got the irony? ;)

The reasons:
- too few classics & big titles
- a bit too many Indies
- sometimes too few copies (too little time to check out unknown games -> no impulse buys)
...which leads directly to the next point:
- clicking on the game led to the check-out area instead to the gamecard (can't remember, was it that way the other Insomnias?)
- the freebies were out too early
- sometimes bad discounts (-> no impulse buys)

and a very personal point:
- only 2 titles from my wishlist were part of the sale and I don't had the luck to have the right timing to catch them

So the purchases on my side are: 0
I didn't like it that much, but at times I did just because of some of the games. I liked the old format far better and I got hosed on this one and was never on my own able to get the D&D bundle despite wasting days on it, but thanks to a very gracious giver at the site in the end I did and I really still do appreciate that.

They need to get it more like the old, let people know if something is last call or not, and just other gripes people made. I think the real question is, given how much GoG probably made anyway and the likelihood of the bitching here probably won't show of offset of less purchases, would they even be motivated to bother correcting the faults some or all?

I think they will listen and the next sale will be different. I would not be surprised if they brought back the last chance label, that was a very cool feature.
Eh I hope you're right, it would be the right thing to do not to troll people after specifics if it won't pop up again as you get pissed over the wasted hours. It would be nice if they had stuff come up less quickly in set lots spread out at different intervals depending how much product they're allowed to release. Not saying spread it over the whole 4-5 days, but at some pace, combined with the last call icon. Per-last call maybe just let stuff be bought for like fifteen minutes, and if it runs out before that is up, then it's a lul in the sale until the next period. Eventually stuff will sell through, and the stuff people dislike that sat for like 30-60+min on this sale would just not sell out entirely. Maybe not as good for a developer but if their product blows to enough people even with a huge cut maybe it's a lesson to drop the price even further or learn to make a nice product. :)
I'm fairly sure the next Insomnia will be different from this one and people will still hate it. 3 Insomnia sales down the line, people will look upon this one fondly :P

I believe it. If nothing changed people would point out that GoG wasn't trying to innovate. The one thing that will likely stick is people being upset about GoG running out of free games.

In general, members of this community tend to value old over new. To your point, as time goes on people will probably speak kindly of this lol.

flammenbringer: Have you tried the direct links? For us Linuxers the only way + it works like a charm. :)
There are alternatives. Especially when you own more than a few games on GOG have a look at the lgogdownloader.
My first Insomnia Sale and I couldn't be more pleased. Not one of my wishlisted games appeared, but I did manage to spend way too much on those necessary games. The internet at my work has been horrible lately, though once the buy button was clicked, everything purchased without a hitch, though seemed to take forever.

I knew coming into the sale that there was the possibility of the freebies running out. I don't understand all the hate over that issue. I was a few away from the 10, when it ended, but still went on to continue buying. Can't complain about the prices! Still have some freebies from the sale that was taking place when I joined up here, and haven't even downloaded them. Chances are that any freebie would have been something I'm not too fond of.

Thanks GOG... Can't wait for the next one!
