yyahoo: You don't see a whole lot of color film noirs. There's a reason. The use of light and shadow in film is much more effective when using black and white over color. Trust me, there's a lot more than just "nostalgia/history lesson" to black and white photography/film...
avatar
Elmofongo: Yes I mentioned that already here. Film Noir is nothing without black and white.
Well, it wasn't mentioned "already" when I posted.

Regardless, film noir is just an example. Use of light and shadow in black and white photography and film is effective in all genres. There are tons of films that just wouldn't be the same in color even more modern ones.

And calling Schindler's List a "kitschy" film? Really? SMH (and yes, I know you're quoting someone else, but you're quoting it.)

Low rated?
+1 from me. Seems like the sarcasm detector is broken for a lot of people.

^ My face when I got the e-mails.
Great news, thanks! I wonder though why this release is Windows only. Isn't it simply a DosBox version? What exactly can be a blocker for you legally to get a license for all platforms?

Seriously, they down repped that comment? People just can't take a joke any more. I'm going to go run myself over with a hover craft full of eels... and maybe john cleese.

The Enhanced Edition doesn't use DOSBox :)
Thanks everyone So the game is playable without sounds. I'm used to taking damage without clear indicator of where they're coming from, so no biggie. My biggest concern was the ability to follow along the story, but it looks like there's texts so that's good.

Will pick this up when I have the time to play it!
STOP BURNING UP MY FREE TIME, GOG!

...

;) Thank you for SystemShock!!

toxicTom: Sadly does not (yet) work on my machine. But "E" should be "lean right", where did they put that?
In the enhanced edition, WASD is now used for moving around, E toggles the mouselook (you need to disable it when you want to interact with the user interface and inventory with the mouse, of course; this is also automated a bit it seems, sometimes it disables mouselook automatically when an inventory opens etc.). I don't recall if Q is used for anything.

Leaning to sides happens now with ZXC if I recall right. So below the movement keys, which is quite ok.
I was away today, but nothing interesting really happend, right?

Venser: I've beaten System Shock fairly recently so I'm not gonna buy it but I'm glad the game is finally on GOG. It feels like it belongs here. Now for that Blade Runner...
Yeah i also hope that GOG is actively pursuing Blade Runner and that it will see a release here someday.

System Shock.Amazing release and what GOG is all about.Great work GOG and everyone else involved.Keep the oldies coming!

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.
damn it GOG, can you slow the awesome releases down a bit? I swear it's like every week now I'm forking over the monies to you guys.. First it was the SSI era AD&D Forgotten Realms games, then it was Bethesda, then it was another SSI era AD&D game, now this.. and that's just in the past few weeks not counting the other awesome releases from earlier in the year..

Good luck with that EA probably still owns the rights to the Blade Runner game since that was made by Westwood while WB owns the film and IP rights. So you got two asshole companies right there..
