IronArcturus: So which API does the enhanced version use? Is it still using a hardware mode?
It uses System Shock Loader which supports OpenGL/D3D.

synfresh: (wondering why they didn't put digital premiere)
Probably forgot or retired it. They also didn't put "Digital Premiere" on Al-Qadim, D&D Stronghold and Starship Titanic.

phaolo: Uh.. I don't know why you're angry.

If I understood correctly:
1- the game was in the grey "abandonware" area.
2- fans improved it and offered it fully for free (illegally, even if nice).
3- a company bought the rights, so the game lost its "abandonware" status.
4- fans had to remove the download.

Does it seem so strange?
Did ND ask compensation or steal their project?
Can't they transform it in an unofficial patch as suggested?
I'm puzzled..
posted it already: not interested in law details in this case, its a question about sustainability, consistence, reason and fairness.
Huh, I hope the "Enhanced Edition" of System Shock is more worth looking at than the "Enhanced Edition" of Baldur's Gate was :P
I honestly don't know that much about System Shock 1, (the second game is the one that seems to get all the praise) but I figure for $6 it's at least worth taking a look at.
Nice! I actually like SS1 more than SS2.
Enhanced Edition isn't working with the downloader, I'm guessing wrong checksum in the system since it will download to about 100 megs and reset to 30 and does so endlessly. I'll just use the Browser.

Mr.Caine: So how this game holds up in 2015?

The people who are currently giving it 5 stars seem to be more interested in writting nostalgia filled essays about how this game blew their mind in the 90's rather then how it holds up today.
I doubt there exists anything like nostalgia, if it were no one would like Mozart of Beethoven today as nobody today lived back then to be nostalgic about that music. If a game was good back then it's good now but you have to take in account the technological advancements that have been made over time, so how well you can tollerate old 3D graphics entirely depends on you. As for reviewers reliving old memories, well.....

No one can guarantee wether you like a game, new or old. I played X-COM (1993) back in 2001 when it was already old and made it to my best game list, I played XCOM (2012) and was hugely dissapointed, nice looking but a superficial representation of the original, even though it gets high praise everywhere you look, so I must be missing something.

I used the Downloader first - ended with a checksum error...

I then downloaded directly via browser - installed and it runs flawless.

Maybe that fixes your problem, too?

That made me smile ;o)
Yep, heard this was coming yesterday. (i.b.)
Woooo!
Came back for System Shock! Yay!

Now will I actually play it? Hmmmm. Haven't really played a video game since this time last year (Dragon Age 3).

But I already had the game installed? Ok, will try reinstall with DD version.

Edit: Same thing. Launch, Logo, Crash.

I've beaten System Shock fairly recently so I'm not gonna buy it but I'm glad the game is finally on GOG. It feels like it belongs here. Now for that Blade Runner...
