System Shock: Enhanced Edition now comes with official support for resolutions up to 1024x768 (compared to the original 640x480), and a native 854x480 widescreen mode. Gameplay is streamlined with a toggleable mouselook mode, including more intuitive inventory and item management. Combined with assorted bug-fixes and remappable controls, System Shock is now truly enhanced. Still, some gaming experiences are truly worth preserving, so you can also return to the authentic 90's gameplay with System Shock: Classic - ready for modern systems, completely unaltered in all other aspects, and available in both the CD and Floppy editions!

Bocze: Classic Edition has two shortcuts in Start menu - one for CD and one for floppy version.
Enhanced Edition has a separate installer and one shortcut in your Start menu. :)
Thanks. My reading comprehension sucks this morning.
So GOG finally got the first System Shock! So does this game only use a glide wrapper, or is there an OpenGL/DirectX mode to use instead?
Odd that the enhanced version installer is 96MB, while the classic version installer is 364MB. Size doesn't matter blaa blaa blaa, but still. The price per megabyte ratio of the classic version is better than the enhanced version.

do you really ask, if night dive would spend some money to provide an own solution?
Nice! I've yet to play SS1 so this is very much a welcomed release :D
Another series complete...

Scored it, and thanks GOG :)

Hope some day you can score the Bioshocks!

Strijkbout: (and butchering it into a standard Doomclone in the process)

Dev_Chand: I take it you don't like the mouselook mod?
No I don't like it.

It completely changes the game, instead of precalculating every move you can just go in anywhere and shoot the crap out of everything.
The only thing that maybe could use improvement are the control of the cyberspace sections but because of the wireframe nature of the levels it's more the aesthetics that are problematic than the controls IMO.

LGR actually had a similar oppinion about it.

As usual, tons of insta-nostalgia reviews that try to tell us how great a game is that most of us already know anyway in its original version.
What I'd like to know is: Has anyone already thoroughly tested this new enhanced version? I'm very interested in this one because I tried replaying vanilla SS about 8 years ago and the controls didn't age well, at all.

Anyway, obligatory wishlist is obligatory :)
Hail SHODAN!!!

You did it, GOG, thank you so much. And you included all the enhancements, such as the higher resolutions and blessed mouselook. This is a true gem and I'm glad to purchase it once again. It will sit in honour on my GOG shelf, alongside the multiple copies I already own on CD.

It comes with the mouselook mod and remappable controls, so both should help in that regard I think.

Hmm.. what do you think about the rest of the changes in the enhanced edition? By the way, neither it nor the mouselook mod were made by Kolya, they were both made by a modder who worked with Night Dive for the release. Kolya merely hosted the earlier versions of the mouselook mod, along with several other mods and System Shock 1 on his website.

Any confirmation if this will run on anything lower than the minimum specs? It feels really weird not being able to run SS1 on my "old junker" that I usually use to run my GOG stuff. And I run System Shock Portable on it.

In fact the specs are way higher than SS2. o.O

THANKS GOG PEOPLE! Wohoo!

The Voodoo came out in 1996. System Shock came out in 1994. It predates widespread consumer 3D; software rendering only.

NightDiveStudios: This is not the same as System Shock Portable, it's completely different :)

tfishell: Well done you and GOG! :) Please keep working on bringing "Strife" and "Noctropolis" here!
Both of those games look pretty cool! Here are [url=http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/noctropolis]wishlists!
