SS1 is another example why I love GOG and pefer it as a digital distributor. In most cases they try to bring classic games both for modern day players and for us purists. I'm always excited when a remake is delivred with unaltered version.
I'm still waiting for some games to have the same treatment ;) but thanks GOG for doing great job! Insta-buy!
Hey. That was absolutely unexpected for me. Thanks gOg, thanks!
Games like this made from GOG what is GOG today:)

Smannesman: So GOG does f- all to get SS1 released and yet both the community and GOG themselves pretend like it was all thanks to them.
Great.
Maybe, maybe not. I recall there being co-operation between NDS and GOG in some earlier NDS releases, or then I misunderstood something.

If this was a fully independent NDS project, I presume the game appeared at the same time on Steam, right? At least I don't see this game on steampowered.com. So, if GOG had nothing to do with this release, why didn't NDS release it on Steam at the same time, or even earlier as they have done with many other releases?

Anyway, at least I was careful not to credit GOG for something where I don't know what their involvement is to make it happen. I just said a generic, "Nice!". Happy? :) Either way, I presume more credit for this should most probably go to NDS than GOG, so yeah, people remember to show your gratitude also to NDS for this case.

Great.
I can see why Night Dive isn't exactly rushing to get Strife released here.
I would like to say thanks Night Dive for all your work.
Where are we pretending that this was entirely on us?
Linux version would be nice of course but I might try it in Wine :)
Insta-bought!

If GOG has not yet reached the 1 million wishes granted threshold and this one did not push them over I do not know what else to say.

Thanks GOG and congrats on getting this here!

Where have you been?
Now I can play in peace :D I'm strongly against playing the series not in the release or at least chronological order. System Shock 2, I'm coming after SS1.
That was unexpected. It's great to see this great game again and it's even more great that it comes with classic and enhanced edition and with a ton of extras.

Well done, Night Dive Studios and GOG!
Thank you GOG, I just bought this classic that I played on it's original first release blindfolded! :-)

Steam releases at 10am Pacific Time.

How many of the "enhancements" are ND-contributions and how many are taken from community-projects?

Is it better to buy this game from Steam, seeing most recently released old games getting better support via Steam and via Gog?

That's not set in stone. SOMA was released there 4 hours ago (just like here).

As for people saying the enhanced edition is just the fan patches from System Shock Portable slapped onto the game, it actually isn't for once. Here's voodoo47's post from Systemshock.org about the enhanced edition:

"This is the CD version of the game, now running through a custom windows loader that has been created by Malba Tahan - basically, enhancing and incorporating his already released mods like SHLINK and the mouselook/hires mod into one complete package, featuring;

- the game runs natively under windows, no (slow) dosbox emulation
- toggle able mouselook mode (smart, auto-disables itself when the player is interacting with objects)
- higher resolution support, up to 1024*768 (able to set custom ones as well, even widescreen)
- windowed mode
- scaling smoothing/filtering
- remappable keys
- no resolution changing when entering full map
- resolution and other settings now stored outside the savegames, eliminating the need to always set them anew once a game is started
- storing the settings externally also allows the log audio to be enabled by default
- can make screenshots by hitting printscreen (stored in \res\gen)
- couple of fixes to scaling, brightness and onscreen text"

Kudos to Night Dive Studios for finally making this monumental release possible and thanks to GOG for checking off another most wanted classic from the community wishlist.

I have heard many great things about the original System Shock but having never played it before I am not sure how well it will hold up for me even with the enhanced edition so wishlisted for now. :)
