Spec Ops: The Line is now available DRM-free. Get it 80% off until May 20th, 10pm UTC.

It’s been 6 months since Dubai was wiped off the map by a cataclysmic sandstorm. Thousands of lives were lost, including those of American soldiers sent to evacuate the city. Today, the city lies buried under sand, the world’s most opulent ruin. Now, a mysterious radio signal is picked-up from Dubai, and a Delta Recon Team is sent to infiltrate the city. Their mission is simple: Locate survivors and radio for Evac. What they find is a city in the grip of war. To save Dubai, they’ll have to find the man at the heart of its madness—Col. John Konrad.
Nice to see this one on GOG after however many years. I believe I got it on a bundle somewhere a long time ago, but nice to see it here nonetheless.

StrongSoldier: What happens with the online achievements? Are they eliminated from the game? Or are they still added to the games and is it impossible to obtain them?
For SpecOps The Line there was always ONLY campaign achievements. Checked on Steam - there not a single online achievement for this game. So no achievements removed and they all can be achived. :)
Instabuy!
So I played a bit of this again after quite a long break and I am still stuck. I turn towards the enemy and cannot aim??? The enemy aims and shoots and kills of course. Console games are annoying. This is harder than Far Cry on its highest difficulty.

...or I am just close to the end of the line.

Awesome! Instabought.
I enjoyed the singleplayer when the game released so I have no issue in buying it again now that it's DRM-free. Thanks GOG and 2K for the release, we need more like this on GOG.

Sadly, once again I am dissapointed by the decision to gut a GOG release, while still adding Galaxy features like achievements to the game. 2K did the same with the Bioshock 2 Original multiplayer, but I won't complain about that again.

I agree the multiplayer was pretty meh and shouldnt be brought back, but where are the co-op missions? Those co-op missions were also playable with 1 player, albeit harder. Galaxy could easily support the matchmaking if they wanted, but now we have neither.

I feel like nowadays GOG just takes the single-player from Steam releases and doesn't even look further then that. Sometimes it's for the better, and sometimes it guts a release. Which of course is also a cost/benefit decision on GOG's part, and thats fair.

But in the end it makes no sense that GOG loves to push Galaxy, which supports all the required things for easy multiplayer. And all we get are single-player releases with some achievements and cloud support. Why even bother with Galaxy features at that point? Remember when it didn't matter where you would buy your game, and you would be able to play with friends on other platforms. Well seems we get neither these days.

Is it possible to rebind the keys so actions in the game aren't "shared" with just one key?
80% off sounds like a good launch discount. But the base price is heavy, almost $30 for a 7 years old game. Is it really that good?

No it's not worth 30$ imo, the gunplay can feel a bit stiff, the squadmate AI is rather bad and something to keep in mind is when a squaddie dies because the AI does something dumb it results in a game over screen which is rather poor design imo, there's a few escort missions and the game is also rather scripted overall.

I wouldn't call it terrible or anything and if you buy it now for 80% then you have nothing to worry about i think.

Does the game allow the player to save at any time?

The game unfortunately lack manual saving and instead use checkpoints which are not all that good tbh.

That's disappointing. So it only uses a single save file every time? Does it create a backup?

That i don't remember, i played through it years ago and was not especially invested in it so i can't speak on that.

Enebias: This is true, and actually put me off as well.
I agree with fronzelneekburm's review on the store page, if you want to read it.
Well, you agreed to commit an evil action simply by playing the game. If you want "a good ending" don't play it.

You can always go back or choose another chapter if you want from the chapter-select screen. And I guess you should, since there are collectables, achievements and different ''choices'' you can make during the game. Which makes it easy to get back to where you need to go. But besides that, the standard console checkpoint system we've seen for years. It just 'works', but you might see the same checkpoint for a while if you fail.

Only on the hardest difficulty (FUBAR) the checkpoint system becomes a bit annoying, since its so damn hard you die almost instantly. But once you git gud or rush the next checkpoint save it doesn't realy matter too much.
