Spec Ops: The Line is now available DRM-free. Get it 80% off until May 20th, 10pm UTC.

It’s been 6 months since Dubai was wiped off the map by a cataclysmic sandstorm. Thousands of lives were lost, including those of American soldiers sent to evacuate the city. Today, the city lies buried under sand, the world’s most opulent ruin. Now, a mysterious radio signal is picked-up from Dubai, and a Delta Recon Team is sent to infiltrate the city. Their mission is simple: Locate survivors and radio for Evac. What they find is a city in the grip of war. To save Dubai, they’ll have to find the man at the heart of its madness—Col. John Konrad.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: No, actually, saying on the store page that it's only singleplayer, does not make clear in any way, shape or form, that the original version of this game as published on another platform, has a multiplayer feature which this new GOG version has removed.

Whether multiplayer is good or not, and whether it is active or not, doesn't change the point. Regardless of how good or bad, and active or inactive the MP is, in every case, GOG still has an ethical responsibility to disclose clearly to its customers that it is selling them a feature-removed version of the original.

Ashleee: Sadly as listed on the game store, our version of Spec Ops doesn't have multiplayer feature :(
I understand why there is no multiplayer - there are real technical difficulties with this (although, it should be noted, the "pirates" were able to solve them). And yes, MP mode in the game is very meh. But ... Why is there no multiplayer, and the price is the same as in Steam?
Could GOG representatives discuss this situation with 2K?
P.S. And it would be nice to still see the answer to my ticket.
Wow, that´s cool. A classic instabought...

fronzelneekburm: If the story being a carbon copy of Apocalypse Now was actually a meta-commentary on the derivative nature of video game stories, they get an A for effort, though.
It's not copied from Apocalypse Now. It's based on Conrad's Heart of Darkness. They both come from the same source material.

MarkoH01: Own this gamne on Steam since ages. Imo one of the most thought provoking shooters so I just instabought it again without thinking a second. Highly recommended.

Crosmando: I remember this game, decent shooter but the way the story was told kinda ticked me off, ie the gameplay gives you no option but to commit an evil action to progress the game, and then the game tells you off after you do it, I mean wtf.

MarkoH01: This was exactly the idea of the ones that made the story. You always have an option - you can stop playing ;)
That is absolutely retarded, more like the devs were too lazy to plot out branching storylines.
I never liked Spec Ops The Line. Pretentious and railroady. You can’t moralize the player if you force him to do something. And no, “stop playing” is not a valid response. People paid money for this. And if I were to look at it from a meta perspective, then it’s a hodrum military shooter where I make particles appear on textured models with animation.

Still good to be on GOG, though. Bad games are worth preserving like good games. It helps people in the future know what not to do. :^)

What’s kind of funny/sad is that Call of Duty (the very series Spec Ops was responding to) Black Ops 2 came out the same year this game came out and did give you choices for the campaign. And oftentimes, not killing someone was the best choice. I don’t even particularly care for the CoD series but this always struck me as ironic that the very series it was a deconstruction of addressed its own flaws.

If you think so. I strongly disagree and I highly doubt that we will find some common ground.

Did they also offer to refund players if they did decide to stop playing at one of those points in the story? If not, it's just empty bullshit masquering as a storytelling device.
This is a welcome addition. I bought The Line quite a while ago on Steam strictly for the story. The story was good, but the gameplay itself is pretty pedestrian. That said, it is a memorable FPS despite its faults and I'm happy to see it on GOG.

That's the whole point of it. There you are, thinking yourself a hero when you are just a terrible person. It is a ballsy move, narratively, but it also was a movie, which made me not want to play this particular game ever again. Once was enough.

[SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!]

It's getting really spoiler heavy over here so I made this thread in the games sub forum.

And yes, the choices don't mater not because the devs did not have time to make branching paths but there where no choices to begin with. They where all in Walkers mind. He makes them all up as he keeps telling himself he is the good guy and he is doing the right thing, while he is becoming more and more unstable.

I already got it for free from Humble Bundle, so no Linux, no buy.

Nice to see it has Galaxy achievements though.
Absolutely fantastic game, nice to see it finally here.
What happens with the online achievements? Are they eliminated from the game? Or are they still added to the games and is it impossible to obtain them?

jalister: Is the Linux version expected to be released here?

i_hope_you_rot: Is Gog still supports Linux and Mac ?
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark released April 30, 2019 for Linux. However, it does seem there are less AAA type Linux releases here, even for older releases. DRM free games belong on Linux.

I'm still waiting for several Linux versions to show up here, like Overlord and Overlord 2.
