UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!

IAmSinistar: I'd be curious as to what this new update addresses and/or adds to the game. Still would like to try it at some point if it becomes more stable and closer to the original vision.

Pretty sure it's the experimental branch stuff, but it's just public now. Steamers don't even have notes apparently.
The new patch fixed nothing in respect of the SSE problem (new game version on GOG is 1284085). The game still does not run on my Phenom2 CPU and it still crashes on the logo screen. What did we get here? On Steam it seems to be working with Phenoms, on GOG not, why ...?

Why do we not get the same level of support Steam gets? I paid the same money too! Why do we not get the beta patches at least? I don't get Hello Games, seems very unprofessional to me.

Ah, thanks. So it's likely the previously discussed patch that was circulating elsewhere, not some comprehensive new fix that debuts worldwide today. That's a shame, then.

Right. You paid.
They are gone now.

And if you even get a patch in the end, no one will refund you the hassle.

Even ryanair refund you if it s more then 2 hours late.
"the trip will not be simple or dull"
No, actually it is.
No don't get up out of your chair mister 918th alien who's never doing anything than looking at some datapad.
No i don't want you to suddenly materialize from some unknowable dimensional pocket cloned sentinal drone i've killed thousands of as the only challenge I seem to arguably face aside from 'you are drowning/radiated/overheated bog status effects' that only make things tedious to do and are bypassed by flying somewhere else.

I don't think I call seamless transferring between star systems via a map and a doctor who transition effect.
I don't think I call seamless an immersion breaking shimmer affect that's most prominent near with the updating of ore monoliths as you get nearer from thin spikes to general turd shapes.
I don't think I call seamless that autopilot that when taking off will fly you into the middle of a rock, refuse you any control and being wedged in terrain take impact damage till your craft explodes leaving you stranded on a death world with seemingly no iron.

This game is such a bad port in every way I can think of specific to porting things shabbily to pc it completely skips the so bad it's kind of funny and goes straight to man I'm tired of this beta crap.
Out of curiosity, is the game substantially different on the PS4? Apart from, I assume, running correctly since every PS4 is identical at its heart, is it actually different in any gameplay fashion?

Without some kind of patchnotes/link to it it still not completly useless info but... kind of.

edit: Have not checked Galaxy yet; if they are there then all is fine :)

There are none on Galaxy either. I guess they're coming soon(™?)...

I watched some streams of the game and it has a 30 FPS lock and an even smaller FOV. Otherwise it is the same game.

It's initial settings are set to 30 FPS. You can change it to 60 FPS within the game's Options menu.

Thanks! So it's not a bad port, apart from not running properly. It's an accurate port. I don't know if that's good or not. It's good in that PC players aren't getting shafted with a pared-down game, but it also means there isn't a better version of the game out there that the PC version could be brought into line with.

Nope, can't download the patch. Not in the Galaxy updater nor at the offline installer page.

Edit: Just dropped on the gog.com page. Still not found on the galaxy updater.
Edit2: Ok so apparently the devs didn't choose to add incremental patches to download but to just replace the original installer with a patched one...

If you do not have the game set to manual updates, then it should update on its own via Galaxy. If you want to force the update, run a "Verify & Repair" check on No Man's Sky and it will get updated to the latest available version :)

Yeah thanks, actually it had already installed the patch. I just have never had a game that updated the installer instead of pushing a patch file to the available downloads list. (i.e. the witcher 3 for example)

It works now, so I hope I'm happy with the patch and look forward for many more to come :D
