UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Primo_Victoria: Is it still a technical disaster?
I *think* if you have an i3 (or i5? as long as it has SSE 4.1 support) you should be fine to enjoy it as long as you have a system capable of running it.

Just from reading this thread, it seems the most egregious issues are with AMD processors lacking SSE support (which I admit the devs did a poor job of stressing the importance of).

*EDIT* Quoting Luned for more accurate information:

Luned: I have an AMD FX-8120. Game runs fine on this CPU because it supports SSE4.1---it's not a blanket issue with all AMD CPUs. It's more "check your CPU for SSE4.1 compatibility". (Not saying Hello Games shouldn't have been WAY more clear with their minimum specs.)

I was watching Totalbiscuit have a horrible time with it, at 1080p and no AA. His PC is probably worth close to 10K. :/
I don't know if NMS failure will signal a change in the games' market trend.
The customers abuse here is absolutely exceptional.

Looking at one of the videos on youtube, one reviewer rightly claimed that should be illegal to utterly lie and misled the customers to buy something that isn't.

So cause a dishonest "youtube critic" known for taking bribes from game companies has problems...
This is logic of fan bois

1080 card is the problem.
Not because no man sky ... but because NVIDIA RELEASED A GARBAGE CARD... that struggles and buggy with EVERYTHING... The 1080 has performance of about 980 but costs crap more..

EVERYONE KEEPS BLAMING THE GAMES NO ONE WANTS TO BLAME NVIDIA
I could have kept posting more and more links showing how garbage the card is... but you just don't get it anyway

Fix your problems?
Sure buy a 980ti and sell your 1080.

or sell your 1070 and get a 970

Seems like Christmas in August it is! (patience of a boiling teakettle).
I'd be curious as to what this new update addresses and/or adds to the game. Still would like to try it at some point if it becomes more stable and closer to the original vision.
