UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!
I am definitely going to try out this game... in the distant future, probably. I read / watched some of the early reviews and find it very interesting, but somewhat over hyped for what it is.

darkangelz: I was under the impression my pc met the min specs listed on the gamecard:

Minimum system requirements - Windows: 7 / 8 / 10 (64-bit only)
Processor: Core i3
Memory: 8GB RAM
Graphics: NVidia GTX 480, AMD Radeon 7870
Hard Drive: 10 GB
Mouse, Keyboard

But seems it fails on:

Processor - phenom x6 1055t - lack of sse 4.1/4.2 support ? i only found listed upto sse3 and sse4a
graphics: gtx 960 - only lists supports for opengl 4.4 not 4.5

Are these shortcomings something the dev can patchfix?

chaosWyrM: see? this is a MAJOR problem. this poor guy thinks his processor doesnt meet the min. requirements when it absolutely does. minimum requirements are performance benchmarks not instruction handling benchmarks.

its not the users fault hg compiled their game wrong. its also not the users fault hg entirely omitted amd from their requirements list. no reasonable sane person would expect a user to be able to suss out that the min req of an i3 was some sort of secret code for sse4.1 compatibility.

its a disgrace the game was released like this...and its even MORE of a disgrace that hg is shifting the blame to users by pointing to the minimum requirements list.
Well said chaosWyrM

This is my first purchase on GOG.
While it's not their fault just by association it will be my last purchase here. Also after reading their refund policy I don't think it's even worth trying to get a refund. I have been in IT for 30 years I don't need help getting this game to run I know what the problem is. I should have bought on Steam I would have a refund already but wanted to save some money. Maybe they will fix it maybe not I have already given up.

First impressions are everything.

JudasIscariot: What about your graphics card and support for OpenGL 4.5?
I know my card can do OpenGL 4.4, not sure about 4.5. Already installed the latest drivers for it and double checked it to be sure.
I don't know if this will help but I found this on Reddit about bypassing the openGL 4.5 check.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4xk0od/fix_for_video_card_without_opengl_45/

I've not tried it and cannot attest to it's accuracy. Bypassing the check of course is likely to cause other issues but it might work for some ?

On the GoG specs before purchasing, many of us checked the specs. My card for example is a 500 series nVidia and hence above the minimum but there was no mention that our cards must support OpenGL 4.5 at the time. Some cards do not. Therefore we purchased / pre ordered with what we had and if later we find that our cards may not support OpenGL 4.5 we would get a GoG refund I would say. We need to wait a bit though. We have 30 days however to make our refund request.

All we can do is wait a bit and if we have hardware that will not run it and because at purchase it did not state openGL 4.5 at the time, I guess if there is any of us that can't run it, we should be able to get a refund.

That is of course absolute last resort. Lets see how we go in the next few weeks with Hello Games updates.

I tried to make a new thread on the main GoG forum for NMS but as usual, when I try to create a new thread it just crashes, they still haven't fixed that problem so I can't make a new thread with this post I fear so others can see it incase it helps. I therefore posted here.

[EDIT: I was able to post this after 4 tries on the main NMS forum here on GoG]

I wouldn't give up on getting a refund so quickly. But it'll take some time as they're no doubt overwhelmed.

B0SC0: We have a team on standby during the entire weekend just for that. ;)
We the dedicated few. :)

B0SC0: At present, they are not using the beta branch functionality on GOG Galaxy, but we're working with them on it and are aiming to have them online with this as soon as possible (can't guarantee when, but we're currently working towards tomorrow). We know how frustrating this is for some, so we're doing our best to resolve this as best we can. My apologies for the delays with this and for my delay in following up with you, BK - very hectic weekend as you can imagine :)

Additionally, you can be sure that if there is an official patch released, then it will be live on GOG very soon after. We have a team on standby during the entire weekend just for that. ;)
I don't own the game, but thank you very much for this update. It's nice to see GOG communicating in the forums on topics like this that people eagerly await answers for, and also good to see the level of commitment you guys are putting into trying to resolve issues like this.
Waiting with so much anticipation for a patch the very ...first days of a game release is a sign of very very poor QA. The pc version is broken in so many ways... Or even worse is one of the ...bad console to pc conversions. I asked already for a refund ( I must admit I did not regret the pre-order. I regret myself believing the hype ) and I am not waiting around for a patch that will solve problems that should not exist. The post of Hello Games explaining the patch admits that the problems are true. I now understand that I bought a broken game and I fear the devs knew it was broken but they rushed it out. Maybe it should be better to wait more... I could wait ( although I pre-payed 60 euros!! ) even months for a game so hyped!
I tried to play it. I tried to love it. I played more than 12 hours. I loved it even more! But... The 12 hours I managed to play were a bit ...funny. Play for 1-2 hours. Frame rate drops to 5. Quit game. Start playing again. Play 1-2 hours. Frame rate drops to 5. Rinse and repeat... And keep in mind this is a ...60 euros game!
before you say anything about my computer, rest assured it exceeds ( a lot... ) the minimum req. It is like someone said: "The specifications of the computer you are trying to run this game are irrelevant. Newest machines with GTX 1080 can not play it, older machines with GTX 700 play just fine. You have to have the magic configuration" Quality Assurance anyone?
I will stick with my refund demand. I bought something that is not working as intended and I want my money back. I will buy the game again ( I know this sounds stupid but right now I feel stupid for handing them my money ) when it will work!
Thank you.

Draikin: DERP I DID NOT EVEN BUY GAME
I find funny how professional trolls are on steam and gog...
Crying / whining

I find it more funny the trolls on steam though cause there it shows if they bought game or not...
and every single person enjoying game /works great own it..

Every single whiner/troll doesn't own it.

I find it even more funny the story of the $10,000 dollar computer... that can not run the game.
people with 1070s and 1080s are running game people with less than specs are running game.

people with super computers are running the game.

only people not running game are those that didn't buy it.
BUT THEY NEED REFUND

http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/360672383113325819/

Little mouse icon shows they own the game...

Who sticking up for game and who isn't?

http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/360672383114105499/

Difference is gog already has problems without the professional trolls...
They have the Eram/ Hickory / Felisx botting trolls

Which doesn't make sense to me cause why would you want to piss off your paying customers to keep botters around that are trolling said customers shrug?

I seriously doubt there's a single person on this website that doesn't see you for what you are, m8, yet here you are attacking other people's integrity as though you had some of your own. LMFAO!!!

Also, who the hell cares what's going on at the Steam community? I sure don't. If I wanted to deal with those jerks I'd go hang out there. Please don't spread toxicity from one community to the other...
