MysterD: I liked FEAR 3 and even more so Dead Space 3 & its DLC - but yeah, those are nowhere as great previous entries.

FEAR 1 was great and its expansions were good; FEAR 2 was pretty good; and FEAR 3 was just "okay."

I loved Dead Space 1 & 2 - but yeah, Dead Space 3 ain't as great as the previous games. Dead Space 3 lacks the scariness and whatnot, except in its DLC. Dead Space 3's DLC brought back the scariness, but a lot of the enviroments felt recycled.

Injustice 1 & 2 were awesome; would love to see those hit GOG w/ offline single-player modes & campaigns.
For me it's the opposite. I actually liked Dead Space 3 more than F.E.A.R. 3.

But I liked to see those games here, even if it were just for completing the series here. F.E.A.R. 3 is no doubt worse than the previous two, but if GOG accepts something like Soldier of Fortune: Payback, then accepting F.E.A.R. 3 is a no brainer.

As for Dead Space 3, well I think that's more complicated. First, Dead Space 2 is not here, and who knows if it'll ever be, as EA seems to doesn't care about GOG anymore. And second, Dead Space 3 requires Origin, even on Steam, so that must make things more difficult.

Maybe my word choice & phrasing was poor, but I did prefer Dead Space 3 over FEAR 3.

FEAR 3....just was "okay."

Dead Space 3 was actually good - namely for its combat, action, and new weapon-building mechanics.

I also liked Simon Templeton's role in the game, as well; I thought he did a good job, to say the least.

I just think it didn't feel survival-horror enough, compared to the previous 2 Dead Spaces titles. Still liked it, though.

wolfsite: Heads up, Feral did the Linux port of this game so it won't be available here as Feral has no interest in allowing it.
*cough cough*
Heads up, Your info is old - Feral do not have the rights anymore (License expiration apparently)
So Linux/Mac is a no-go.

I misread it as you saying that you liked F.E.A.R. 3 more. I'm sorry.

Both games suffered from the same problems: less focus on horror and the fact that both were designed with coop in mind. Publishers meddling and F.E.A.R. 3 was devoloped by a different studio.

But I'd like to see new entries for both ips, and that they'd be more in line with their first entries.

Thanks for the update.
I have this game already on steam and I chose to complete it using the Vulkan version for Windows from the steam beta branch as it worked better for me than the standard Directx version.

Can anyone tell me if the GOG version also offers the Vulkan version? I know silly me, but I think I am going to buy it again here on gog :)

Zoidberg: GOG needs more GOG Connect to bring people over here.
avatar
Krooked_: I disagree. Most people treated GOG Connect as a way to get a free DRM-free copy of a game after they purchased it on Steam. If anything it encouraged people to keep buying on Steam and expecting a free drop from GOG Connect. It's also unfair to people who have bought the game on GOG rather than obtaining it from a cheap bundle with a Steam key and then also getting it on GOG for free through Connect.
You cannot expect people to wait for an eventual GOG release for a game that originally released SIX YEARS AGO!

Of course they are going to buy it on Steam first.

You also cannot expect them to buy it again here on GOG (I stopped doing that ages ago myself).

People who didn't buy it the last six years can buy it here, people who DID buy it in that period will most probably NOT buy it again here, and just feel bummed that they cannot compelte their GOG collection with a game they bought already.

Not allowing for GOG Connect just hurts the GOG platform.

Again, just my opinion too, but it'll just disengage me from the GOG platform.

Just buy it, you won't regret it :)

For me the solution to this conundrum was simple, I don't buy games on steam anymore. No bundles, no nothing.

You cannot expect that you will pay the money to Valve (Steam) and then get the game here for free. There is no benefit to publishers in this, and there is no benefit to the GOG in this.

If GOG will giveaway a free version of a game to everyone who bought it on Steam, then this will definitely harm the GOG platform, encouraging users to behave like you (buy on Steam and expect free copy with GOG Connect) and repel publishers (who will publish the game here, but receive money from purchases only from Steam).

If you buy games on Steam, and then wait for these games for free here, then perhaps you are not that attractive user of the service.
There seems to be a trend where GOG (or the dev or pub) won't release "AAA" games (the old-ish ones we could actually get) that would have multiplayer or significant online features/content cut for the GOG release (since the developers and publishers don't want to spend a lot of resources integrating to Galaxy; I guess achievements aren't too tough but multiplayer is). One exception off the top of my head is XCOM2 and that could be part of the reason it's poorly rated here.

As somebody just interested in single-player (and I just buy games at nice discounts anyway), I'm not a fan of this but it is what it is.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: That's a moot point though, because he doesn't look like Tom Hardy either. And the reason why he looks like neither actor is because they clearly didn't want to shell out money to use any actor's likeness, which they would have needed to do if they were to use one of their likenesses.
avatar
InSaintMonoxide: It's also because it was never intended to be a tie-in for any live-action movie (it was, however, originally intended as a tie-in with a Mad Max animated film which got cancelled i believe). I prefer the generic looking face though, since it makes the game more representative of the entire series instead of a single entry.
Looks Mel-ish enough to me.

If I remember correctly, the Middle-Earth series also had its servers taken offline. Hope this bodes well for a future release on GOG!

I love GOG, but... I know they are losing a lot of sales simply because their releases are so often far after those on Steam... sometimes "gimped"... and a GOG release is never a certainty. Who would have imagined Mad Max or Dishonored would ever show up here?

I don't particularly agree that GOG should provide DRM-free copies of Steam-owned games for free, but I do think it would behoove GOG to give some kind of additional incentive for owners to re-purchase games on GOG, where the DRM-free price is also often higher than Steam price... and sometimes for a product that does not have the full functionality of the Steam release.

IMO GOG got themselves in a jam by the way they initially marketed GOG Connect; there are still a number of gamers who believe every game they own on Steam could be "unlocked" on GOG for free. It's surely a letdown when they understand how GOG Connect works... and that's a problem.

It is a conundrum

I would definitely buy that :)
I wander if this means we'll be getting just cause as well.
