deonast: Thank you GOG, you did this release right. Steam did it wrong.
- You left the original version as a download option for those who might want that (bugs or whatever the reason may be)
Did they? I thought that you cannot buy the original version anymore on GOG - or did they include it as bonus?
One question, since they changed the way the game looks - swapping the original vibrant colors to the new mat colors - is there any way to swap between these two color schemes ? Like a toggle feature ?

well , i think you are mistaken (somehow)

- the old version is no more sold (on GOG & Steam)
- the old one is still in your library (on GOG & Steam) , old versions of games are still left (unless you request the removal)

the only difference , is GOG didn't "annoyed" their customers because they don't have the correct package (from what i read Nordic had to choose trom which package the game would be free of charge)

My guess is Valve wanted to take as much money they could grab...dispite Nordic wanted the game free if you have all content previously. The other possiblily is a technical issue (but i fail to see which one)

I'm not mistaken but I should have made it more clear. Yes I meant the old version is available to customers who bought it previously. To my knowledge once you are upgraded in steam you no longer have a choice where with GOG as you noted you get the keep the previously purchased copy in your inventory and as a choice to download.

Sorry I should have made it more clear. I meant existing customers who bought it get to keep the old copy as a choice. New customers they get the new version only. On steam if you get upgraded you never have the choice of the old version you bought previously (to my knowledge)

You're wrong. I have both the Deathinitive Edition and the original version of Darksiders II on Steam. After the Deathinitive Edition was added to my Steam library the original Darksiders II is still there and i can download it without problems.

Excellent in the past I've had them upgrade games and wipe out old versions. Couldn't find anyone on steam with it to confirm my question if we got to keep the old version. Since steam didn't upgrade me due to buying all the DLC separate I couldn't check for myself without forking over more money (no free upgrade).

Niggles: So anyone downloaded and tried the new edition out?.
***WARNING, Long Post!***

1) Graphics ARE better. For older systems, this can be a slight hindrance, though, since game might seem like lagging. Also, for me at least, each and every time i alt-tab to peek at the collectibles guide, graphics get completely messed up, so i have to quit and restart game. Other than that, they are sweet.
2) No more game freezing, thankfully. I would hate to reach arena wave 90+, only to have the game freeze and restart from scratch.
3) ***THE ENTIRE LOOTING SYSTEM HAS CHANGED D.R.A.S.T.I.C.A.L.L.Y!*** Items cannot be found where they used to be, DLC items are NOT found from the tome, you have instead to progress into the story, beat bosses and hunt them as secretly stashed away loot! Other items had their stats altered completely, some of them SCALE WITH YOUR LEVEL even and generally, the entire item-system seems to be revamped, renovated, face-lifted. Many people overlook this fact to the point of claiming "there are no DLCs in-game"...
4) The DLC campaigns are now accessed through in-game npcs.
5) The as of before unobtainable trio of items, War's pauldrons, war's sword scythe look-alike and crow set, CAN BE FOUND AND USED in game, this time.
6) People's nagging in the past about game imbalance (you could wear a dlc set at level 5 and wreak havoc even up till near 15 level) have been heard. Now you can challenge yourself and find those items with much effort, if you wish to do so, that is, plus now that they are redesigned, by the time you are going to find them, they are going to be so much more useful (and longer lived)!

This is the COMPLETE version, so complete that it actually contains within, EVERY LAST P.I.E.C.E. of equipment! You only need to find them and IGNORE previous guides! Search for new ones, from console players of the Deathinitive Edition!

Reviews are angry and ERRONEOUS. Nothing is omitted from the game! On the contrary, even the missing items from before have been added! You simply find them through other means, at different places, with effort! Forget the tome thing!

And this is the new list, on how to access your items, that ARE STILL INSIDE!

That is not true. I bought it on steam (long ago) and at the moment I have both versions installed to compare them.

No, it is not you can only keep both versions if you want to toggle between the looks.

Very subjective regarding the fact that they changed the colours and not only the lighting.

Played the original game for 75+ hours and it never froze.

If you are talking about the GAME you are correct - however the soundtrack is missing (at least on Steam).

the new release has the soundtrack as separate DLC (like the original one)

The 80% discount coupon is still missing. While I'm happy some of you got this for free, the penalty for not buying the DLC for $4.99 and only the two base games is that I apparently have the honor of paying $23.99 if I want this (the same as anyone who didn't own any of it before). Regardless, kinda makes my original purchase of Darksiders II useless, as it appears I'll never be able to add the DLC to it.

How could this be if they are stating:
Deathinitive Edition Features:
Darksiders 2 with All DLCs included....
I'm also still missing the discount code, support is not answering anymore, so now I'm just left with DS2. By the time they wake up to help us, the freakin discount will disappear. Quite sad, really. :(

My guess the soundtrack is outside from what they consider "DLC"

In the new Darksiders Package the soundtracke is an extra content to buy (probably because it's not in-game content....)

but if you got already the soundrack in the old package , i agree the soundtrack should be included free of charge with the new release.

Truth be said, only STEAM treats "soundtrack" as being DLC and charges extra for it, too. GOG usually treats it as "extra" and gives it for free, with the digital extras. In original 2, soundtrack was incorporated in the Complete DLC pack, still not charged independently, though.

There are games on gog, however, that charge soundtrack extra, but this is neither the rule, nor the norm, round these parts.

No reason to fuss over it. People who got Deathinitive as gift, should have bought the series beforehand. If they bought from GOG, they own everything, already.

Only for ONCE steam got the worse deal, yet everyone whines like a crybaby. As if they don't have the dirtiest cheap sales ever, as if they don't get AAAs almost exclusively, as if they don't have many games sold only through their preferred platform, already... If you are concerned, then grow up and learn to prefer services that treat you as a valued customer, not as a wallet on wheels!
