Thronebreaker will be out for PC on October 23rd.

WildHobgoblin: Alright, so, I'm a huge Witcher fan, but I've decided to give (the online, multiplayer) Gwent a pass for various reasons.
I always thought I might get into the single player version, but looking at the gameplay linked earlier in this thread, the cards and abilities seem quite unfamiliar... and you only draw four cards each round? This doesn't look like it's something I'd actually enjoy.
So, basically asking whether the story-mode can hold its own? Or is it just like pushing a "skip" button every time a card battle comes up? Since I would assume that to be the game's main mechanic, and the story being more of a thin thread to hold the card battles together...
avatar
Linko90: There's a mode called 'Story Mode' which allows you to skip all the battles if you wish.
Thank you - I am aware of this :)
I'm basically just wondering whether the game's worth it for the story alone. But I guess time will tell... I don't preorder out of principle, so I'll probably just wait until the verdict's in :)

GOG.com:

eiii: Why do the newer game cards have to clutter up the game description with (a lot of) pictures? You already have the nice media gallery on top where you can go through all the pictures and even enlarge them. I like that. Why do you not put all the pictures into that gallery instead of making the game description harder to read and force us to scroll a lot more to get to the final part of the game description and the reviews?
No kidding. And not just pictures, but animated too. That really makes me not even bother to look anymore.

As for the game itself... Card games are nice as minigames, but a whole game that's like this, and with a casual look and feel otherwise... May depend on how the story is I guess, but even so, maybe I'll see about it some years down the line, at 80+% off from this price (and of course only if no region pays more than base price for it - didn't see the breakdown posted in the pricing thread yet to know how it stands).
I am underwhelmed and not impressed with the graphics at all. It looks like this was made for a phone or other low end device, and does not look like it was ever intended for a PC. Very disappointed. Considering how the Witcher series graphics have been exceptionally detailed oriented, I expected much better.

That being said, I will still purchase the game to support the Witcher series and CDPR. Of course, I am still hopeful they will make a Witcher 4 some day too.

The art-style is intentionally old school. As explained in this interview, a lot of inspiration has been drawn from the Heroes of Might and Magic series. Taking different artistic choices from high-end 3D graphics does not necessarily mean that the game is not intended for a PC.

I personally quite like and appreciate a throwback to times where this kind of graphics was commonplace. Good job CDPR!
Right, so the pricing matrix was posted and there are regions paying more than base price, and variations between wealthy regions. Marginal, matter of cents at the moment, but it's the priciple of the thing. As is the fact that at least the $30 region doesn't get that cent back, not sure about SE and GB and their 20-21.
Wasn't the argument about having to introduce regional pricing that publishers require it for pricing parity with Steam and/or retail, or bigger ones just to match their own pricing model and smaller ones because their use third party services for pricing and those have their model? So would a blue care to say why is a game made and released by CDP alone, without another publisher, electronic only, so no retail pricing to worry about, and exclusively on GOG, so no concerns about parity with other platforms either, regionally priced still?

(As for this discussion about the graphics... HoMM? Would have never thought of that when seeing this! Definitely looks mobile-casual. Has its appeal, but what I frown at is the simple shading, too flat. Not much of a problem though... And there is another recent release for those looking for eye candy and (actual) tactical battles.)

Tarhiel: Was it somehow officially announced? Where do you have this information from?
avatar
darkstl: It is from Burza but I can't find his original statement right now. And he didn't really use the word 'canceled' but said it is 'shelved' for now.

Thank you.
It´s a pity, but I guess they just needed all the people they could get to have Thronebreaker in shape for the release.

avatar
Tarhiel: Well, no point in waiting then, gonna preorder.
avatar
mdoko: But why? There is no preorder discount, nor preorder bonus. So, what's the point of giving money before you're able to play the game?

I'm not trying to criticize people who are preordering, I'm just trying to understand what's the point in preordering Thronebreaker. Can someone tell me what am I missing?

Right now my plan is to buy it on the release day, but I'd be happy to preorder if it gets me something that buying on the release day doesn't.
Because I want it, that´s why.
Because this is a developer I trust + I saw videos/read articles about it and decided to buy it. That´s it.

I don´t like preorder bonuses, I think the whole game should be made equally available for all the players, regardless of when they bought the game.
Maybe with the exception of by preordering getting the deluxe edition of game (with OST, artbook, etc..), that´s something I would be thinking about.

Nobody´s forcing you to preorder, if you want, just wait till the release day and then decide whether to buy it or not.

I also think that proprder bonuses are a bad thing. "Bonus" that I was thinking of was a discount of some kind, or a store credit. Something like "if you give us money before the game even releases, you get 5% off." Or maybe something as small as "all preorders give you 1€ in-store credit".

No matter how much I trust and respect CDPR, this is a business transaction, and there has to be some value in there for me in order to give them money before I can use the product.

To clarify, the extra goodies you receive with the pre-order WILL be available after the game's release as well.
CD PROJEKT RED does not believe in luring people in with some exclusive pre-order items. It's more about supporting the studio and excitement for what's to come :)

Can you make an edition that is ONLY Thronebreaker, without ANY GWENT-related items tagging along to taint it?
Instead of creating Thronebreaker, it would've been better to provide information months ago about Gwents future, how pre release/v1.0 cards would be implemented and NOT ignore/delete posts from people who were worried about the (lots of) money they spend on their favourite dev/game. THAT should've been priority no 1.

After seeing my 200+ euro gone to hell they present Thronebreaker: 'Heya, we got more Witcher for ya, please leave your E25.89 here'. Forget about the pos called Gwent, forget about the money you put into it and buy this instead!

CDRPR/GOG made a fatal mistake to people who trusted in them, invested in Gwent. Bought their games on multiple platforms. I thought you and CDRPR were great, but not even Steam screwed me that hard.

Enjoy my 200+ euro wasted on Gwent, it's the last money you'll ever see from me.

darthspudius: Is it just me or does this game look like some mobile phone game?

Mr.Caine: How dare you sir? This is clearly GOTY 2018!

Oh, I don't doubt its popularity. But it still looks like a mobile game. :P

Dude, What?!
There is a Homecoming stream on Twitch today, where you will learn the info about future of gwent. Besides, CDPR will give you scarps in price of your 200+ euro to craft cards you want in Gwent: Homecoming. So calm your tits bro, nobody is wasting your money.

It is an art style my friend, instead of being realistic its stylized. The graphics are quite great to be fair, I love the art style and would get the game for the exact same reason as you to support CDPR but I will wait for a sale, although Ill probable buy it anyway because Ill be feeling like playing the game lol.

I love the regional priceing, if I go to steam to buy a game for $50 it will end up being $80 fucking, I can buy the games for $40 at a store and that will be a hard copy. Honestly regional pricing should be more common it isnt fair for most other people when it comes to pricing.

Er, you sure that came out right? Regional pricing is just why you end up getting a $50 game for $80, and what isn't fair...

I was referring to the entire package, including the gameplay.
