nightcraw1er.488: There is no rant here, merely pointing out what the release thread clearly states:
"The digital art book for GWENT" = GWENT
"Plus premium kegs" = GWENT
"Avatars for GWENT" = GWENT
To my knowledge GWENT is still online only via Galaxy., so the translation is correct, although I used the word GWENT four times rather than 3. I did not say this new component was not available offline, but that we will see when it's released. This however is a thinly viewed push to get people on Gwent.
avatar
Linko90: Oh you got us!

Red made a 30 hour single-player game that does not need galaxy, and supports offline installers, as a 'thinly viewed' method of 'pushing' people into Gwent, a multiplayer game.

You got us! Come back next month when Red makes a 60 hour RTS to release on steam purely to push GOG-Connect!

Come on now, you're getting more silly with each post on the topic Night.
Please, can you explain, how I can use that goodies:
"The digital art book for GWENT"
"Plus premium kegs"
"Avatars for GWENT"
in the Thronebreaker?
I really don't understand your "overreaction" to the relared comment.

The_SoV: The thing is - I don't want to be always connected online to play game. Not that I can't - sometimes it's just uncomfortable.
avatar
mdoko: I agree with that. It's a fair point.

Next part - I have to spend over 50-100 hours just to build a good deck. I don't want to spend this amount of time on Gwent, cause I have another games, which are more interesting AT THIS MOMENT. And f2p model implies, that I have to spend more time than I want to.
avatar
mdoko: Closer to 50 than to 100, but yeah, that's the ballpark number. The only thing I'd say is that 50-ish hours in Gwent would get you not a good, but a tier 1 deck.

I played Hearthstone - I know, what I'm saying.
avatar
mdoko: Gwent grind cannot be compared to HS. Seriously. For an hour a day in Gwent, you get a card pack. However, it's still a grind, and it still requires a commitment, which is a fair point.

I don't like f2p projects - I would better pay once and get some impression from the game than I would grind hard to get some part of it.(I just don't like games-services).
avatar
mdoko: I agree with that sentiment. I tried Gwent out because of the Witcher lore, and because I was curious to see how will CDPR handle the infamous F2P model. I continued playing because at no point I felt pressured towards spending money on Gwent.

Full disclosure: I did end up spending 20€ on card packs, but I did it when I was sitting on 100 unopened packs.

At this time I'm considering Gwent as relaxing entertainment game after work(like ETS 2 :) ) I don't need competitive part.
avatar
mdoko: That's exactly how I play it. A bit after work if I don't go out with friends.

So, no, I don't want play Gwent. At least, before it is unreleased.(also I heard, CDPR want to change some mechanics in the future)
avatar
mdoko: Oh, yeah, starting Gwent now would definitely be a waste of time. Don't do that. Total revamp hits on October 23, and there is no reason to play before that.

Also, if you think you'd be frustrated by being pulled away from some other games in order to get a pack or two by playing Gwent, than don't even try playing. Gwent is quite addictive, and in my experience it did noticeably decrease the
time I spend on single-player games. I'm slightly unhappy about that, but not enough to stop playing Gwent. However, I did stop chasing any competitive goals, in order to free-up time for other games.

P.S. Please don't see my posts as trying to convince you to play Gwent. I just like talking about different views and approaches to gaming.
That's all right! I like to read another opinion from the other point of view. ;)

I think you're silly if you don't think consumables bought with game A which are only for game B do not incentivize engaging in game B and in this case, buying more consumables in game B.
It's the procedure done by every drug vendor down the street for petes sake! Get one free, come back later to buy some. It works well. You can read up on "investment" of a customer to educate yourself.
Oh and OMFG 30 HOURS. Did you even play it or do you believe everything your boss just says? If you're using it as ammunition for an argument, you better be sure it's correct.

Can't speak for Gwent standalone as I've only ever played it in TW3, but I always see people dissing Galaxy

GOG.com:
Why do the newer game cards have to clutter up the game description with (a lot of) pictures? You already have the nice media gallery on top where you can go through all the pictures and even enlarge them. I like that. Why do you not put all the pictures into that gallery instead of making the game description harder to read and force us to scroll a lot more to get to the final part of the game description and the reviews?

The only intelligent comment on this thread.

In fact you are from San Marino, che adoro :)
Am I interpreting this correctly as fundamentally a singleplayer, campaign focused deckbuilder (with some other elements sprinkled on top)? The way deckbuilders used to be done before microtransactions became a factor? Because if so I'll be looking forward to it quite a bit. Most new deckbuilders nowadays are either exclusively focused on multiplayer or riddled with microtransactions, so a game that is actually built for you to earn cards as you play while you explore the campaign and without pushing you to pay extra at every opportunity, is very welcome.

GWENT the game/mechanic (as in Witcher) is separate from GWENT, the product that has DRM, exploits people with free-to-play mechanics, and otherwise is reprehensible. Sadly this product ties to that one. If they'd go back and remove all ties to GWENT (the product) that this has, it would be improved, since it would be clear that it's not an attempt to funnel people to their whale-seeking microtransaction festival.
Alright, so, I'm a huge Witcher fan, but I've decided to give (the online, multiplayer) Gwent a pass for various reasons.
I always thought I might get into the single player version, but looking at the gameplay linked earlier in this thread, the cards and abilities seem quite unfamiliar... and you only draw four cards each round? This doesn't look like it's something I'd actually enjoy.
So, basically asking whether the story-mode can hold its own? Or is it just like pushing a "skip" button every time a card battle comes up? Since I would assume that to be the game's main mechanic, and the story being more of a thin thread to hold the card battles together...

there's a GOG museum ? :O i would definitively would want to see/visit it.
Anyone know if there is combat diablo style? or is the birds eye view only to travel the world and combat is card based?

All combat is card-based.

There's a mode called 'Story Mode' which allows you to skip all the battles if you wish.
