Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will be playable upon release on October 23rd.

PRE-ORDER NOW

The Witcher World is Back!

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, a brand new adventure set in the world of The Witcher, is now available for pre-order on PC, exclusively via GOG.com.
Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics.
As queen Meve, build an army and engage in story battles as you unravel an all new 30-hour Witcher Tale that sends you exploring never-before-seen parts of The Witcher world — Lyria, Rivia, Aedirn, Mahakam and Angren.

Thronebreaker comes with awesome free bonus items, including the official Thronebreaker soundtrack, the digital artbook for GWENT, plus premium kegs, titles, and avatars for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.

Thronebreaker will be out for PC on October 23rd.
Gwent was the best thing about Witcher 3, and merging it with the original Duels of the Planeswalkers is almost like a dream come true. However i'm also a bit curious about the possibility of the Steam release.

UPD. Also curious about the skirmish question from below.

I am wondering, is there a planned or implemented 'skirmish' mode, allowing to build a deck from unlocked cards and just play a battle against AI?
curious as well if there'll be a release on steam later on?
Fastest pre-order I've ever done and I don't even play Gwent!

I wouldn't expect a Steam release, at least for a long time. CDPR is trying to use Gwent and Thronebreaker to attract more people to GOG, so a Steam release would be counterproductive.

duxcorvan: OK, I know there will be offline *installers*, but, will I be able to PLAY offline (this is, without internet connection) once the game is installed?
This is clearly stated on the game card: "No activation or online connection required to play".
The drawings for this game are stunning, I like the comic book approach to the world of The Witcher. Once again CD Projekt RED shows who is the best developer around.

And guys, we're on GOG not on Steam, obviously you don't need the online connection to play it.

Better facial animations than Mass Effect Andromeda. Just an observation.

nightcraw1er.488: There is no rant here, merely pointing out what the release thread clearly states:
"The digital art book for GWENT" = GWENT
"Plus premium kegs" = GWENT
"Avatars for GWENT" = GWENT
But if you don't want this online-only additions for other online-only game - just download offline installer without Galaxy and play this campaign without any online activity. What is the problem?

viranimus: Admittedly I skipped playing the stand alone game. Not that I am adverse to online game play. Not that I have a problem with the existence of micro transactions. My problem with it was it was too high of a learning curve to get started. That points to p2w mechanisms which I am not going to buy cards just to get properly started with something.
To be honest: you could play Gwent, especially on Open Beta without any p2w. Kegs and cards were plenty and single player tutorials added cards and helped to learn game.

Linko90: Oh you got us!

Red made a 30 hour single-player game that does not need galaxy, and supports offline installers, as a 'thinly viewed' method of 'pushing' people into Gwent, a multiplayer game.

You got us! Come back next month when Red makes a 60 hour RTS to release on steam purely to push GOG-Connect!

Come on now, you're getting more silly with each post on the topic Night.
Mhmm it's a beautiful day when even GOG staff call out nightcraw1er.488's nonsense. You win the internet today congrats.

mqstout: It is, but it has a lot of features to try to funnel people into CDP's online-only f2p cashgrab, GWENT. By buying this, one is supporting the psychological exploitation of one's fellow gamer. Ie, condoning unethical behavior.

Tauto: Thanks, but playing online is not for me,so Gwent isn't either.
I DLed Gwent and played it for a short time (like, maybe 2 hours). I don't mind Gwent in The Witcher 3 as an amusing mini-game, but I just didn't like it as the f2p version. I'm still grabbing Thronebreaker though, as I think it looks like a pretty decent game. I you're at all interested, I wouldn't worry about the f2p Gwent-related stuff that's included. It looks like you can completely ignore it.

I don't mind online installing, it's constant online PLAYING that is a problem for me. I use to travel with my laptop to places where internet is not available.
That would make the offline installers rather pointless, wouldn't it?

nightcraw1er.488: Or to translate: "Gwent, Gwent, galaxy, Gwent, online only client, Gwent, galaxy".
More often than not, I always see people here so down on Galaxy... never really understand it... it's optional, they said it always will be, so why all the hate for it if you're not being forced to use it? If it weren't for Galaxy, I'd never have latched on to GOG because I like having a client rather then downloading big installers through a browser... to that I say THANK YOU to GOG for making Galaxy with the mindset they put around it (optional and with optional features therein) and always look forward to each new feature update release (where's 1.3?????!!!)... Galaxy has brought in new users that would otherwise have bypassed GOG cause it would be a swift departure from what they're used to other places... which all in all, is better for GOG and all of us
