I have a very good news for Metroid fans.

After years of development, a project known as AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) - a fan-made remake of Metroid 2: Return of Samus in a Game Boy Advance style (Fusion/Zero Mission) has been released.

You can download it here:
http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/

Better get it quick - knowing Nintendo, they will likely send a cease-and-desist letter soon to its creator.

UPDATE: It looks like Nintendo already found this, but the forums have few working links inside. You can look for them here:
http://am2r.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?t=1478&f=2

Keep in mind, they may turn into dead links at any time.

UPDATE 2: All forum links are dead, but I'll always try to provide a working link.

Currently, the game is available here (already updated to version 1.1):

Is Nintendo really that hostile toward fan games? I mean there are many zelda and pokemon fan game and they are still around without problem

BTW I'll wait for Linux release before downloading. This looks good
Was about to make a thread it's been so long! :D

I was reading some stuff, apparently no, they are pretty chill about fan mods/romhacks/remakes provided there's no profit involved or branding confusion (i.e. stuff that can be passed as an actual product).

It works great.
Can't wait to try it out! :D I'm a great fan of the original games. I've played the original Metroid, the original Metroid 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission. ^_^

Better get it now and launch it through Wine or other similar software, otherwise it might be too late. Original Metroid 2 is still available to purchase on Virtual Console, so that's another argument to quickly take the free remake down.

True. There's no downside in downloading them now. Just in case. Will do it
Thank you for letting us know, JamesBond007. +1

I had bookmarked the homepage a long time ago, but I haven't checked back on the project since. Downloading it now.

The Legend of Zelda is being sold to hell and back and http://www.zeldaclassic.com/ still going for yeeeeaaaarsss.
As is with http://www.mother4game.com/
And the countless mods/romhacks/tools that you can build/make your own Mario Maker.

And it doesn't hurt to repeat:

The C&D usually comes around when/if the project:

- Is seeking profit;
- Takes direct assets without giving credit to the source material;
- The fan game/romhack/mod title is using game-play elements Nintendo is already experimenting with or hasn’t released;
- If the fan game/mod/romhack is similar enough and popular enough to be confused with an actual Nintendo game.
Downloading it now.
I still have Fusion/Zero and my GBA. I can't imagine trying to play them or something similar on my PC.
Nice find! Thanks, JamesBond007!
Any good?

So basically that means that Nintendo can shut your free fan game down for basically just being a game.
I am surprised Nintendo haven't shut this thread down.
