I haven't really played this since the hardmode update, so I don't have any of the fancy new stuff in there. And can't decide whether to buy the GOG version, just so I don't have to start steam to play it, but getting tempted to play again anyway. Lots of words, sorry I got really interested in explaining and understand if you just look at the pictures, but please at least do that? Hope you like.

First is one of those you keep adding more and more to accommodate new additions, or as you need space for new NPCs. I didn't realize it was that large...

The original house became the merchant's place where he lives in the attic, since there are no doors. The stone brick house on the left with the banners is where the Tailor moved in. The main living area of the main house was quickly taken over by the nurse, apparently the little church like place I made her did not suit her needs...I do like my little graveyard though, and even started putting "coffins" in underneath them.

When the guide returned (yes, from death) he got the small room just under the bar. I made a lovely place for the demolitionist as well. Also being a fan of Dwarf Fortress, I tend to build underground more than above and didn't want the smelly goblin living too close to the rest of us. The mechanic moved in just under him...she's weird. And of course just beyond them is the cany cane hell well.

The second is my favorite place I've ever made in the game.

After a time I decided I really wanted solitude, a place without all the people opening/shutting doors all hours of the night and expecting me to serve their every need. So I set off and found a nice area and started building. I'm especially proud of the practicality of this castle.

The main entrance (on the left) is inaccessible to all but flying eyeballs (this is an early version of the game remember). Even to NPCs as it takes at least a double jump from the hills to reach the platform. Outside, congregating zombies are easily dispatched in the little pit-like area with not much danger to oneself. Otherwise it's a simple place, just some lighting a few tables and storage. I changed my room once I found some gold/silver blocks on a floating island. And the basement was appropriately decorated with some cobwebs.

The odd, out of place platforms above, peppered with corrupted stone, were designed for the fight with the Eye of Cthulhu, and worked quite well. Afterward a sign was added as a memorial and read something to the effect of: "Here the knight Arucard did fell the demonic Eye of Cthulhu".

I also forgot, something I love about this pic is I found out how to "place" the Angel Statue (before you actually could of course) by tossing it onto the table. :)

If it can be of some help, the locally saved files between steam and gog versions are the same (somewhere in your "MyDocuments" local folder) so you won't lose any progress by switching to the gog version.

Anyway, I like how you made your NPC homes. I know that their homes don't have to be "glued" together so it's cool to see one example where their rooms are distant.

I also like doing homes underground so when I'm travelling on the surface, I just have to jump over the roof instead of going in/out of the building :o)

Wrong forum, dude, this is not the Pixel Piracy forum ;)

BTW, could you make a screenshot of the "tower"?

Wow, great work, I like the indoors gardens! Maybe I'll start using the ropes too :)

tinyE: Dig my basement! :D

BTW does anyone else collect their grave markers and put them on display?
avatar
BillyMaysFan59: Hah, nice work :D

I always put my grave markers in storage chests - I could create a "graveyard" some time, but right now I'm working on a hotel!
Yup... I've, uh, collected quite a few. It'll be a very crowded graveyard once I get around to making one.

Hicks233: Rather than spend ages hunting around for enemies and jumping through the percentage chance hoops for a drop I made this to harvest goodie bags - also worked a treat for the Eskimo clothing!

Flip the switch, sit back and let the dart traps do all the work.

That is quite lovely.

And where the heck are people getting these 'giant brick' blocks? I must have missed something during one of the updates :-)

InkPanther: My attempt at building an armory. It turned out to be a bit bigger than I expected and I may be too lazy to finish it... ;-)
Very nice! I need to take a class on how to build things that aren't just giant boxes, hehe.

InkPanther: Little something to commemorate effort put into getting Fishron Wings. It took only 70+ kills. I begun to suspect that rng may not like me... (Warning: NSFW language).
LOL! For me, it wasn't quite that bad, and it was the Razorblade Typhoon magic weapon. He just did not want to drop it, and I play a mage. I did get something like a dozen of those Flairons (which, even with my magic setup in my armour and accessories, killed him faster than any magic weapon I could throw at him at the time, for some indication of just how OP the thing is) and more of the summoning rods than I can count, though .

Nice propellers!
Oops, missed this one:

Crackpot.756: Oh my. I can barely get myself to rename all the chests!
I haven't bothered to do that, either. Does it show the name when you hover over it? If that's the case, I'll probably just rename them when I rebuild in the next update, instead of using signs. Again, old world, so there was no renaming of chests when it was originally built.

avatar
Crackpot.756: What I'm wondering... what do you do with boxes full of dirt, of all things?
It's a habit I got from Minecraft. Terraforming in MC takes tons of dirt, so I save every single block I dig up (yeah, I could fake it, but I'll know that the ground is hollow, and it'll drive me nuts). I just did the same in Terraria in case I needed it to flatten out an area. I have so much at this point that I do just leave it behind now.

It does, guess that'd be a bit simpler than signs. Although I like how your signs make it look even more organized.

That does make a lot of sense. What bothers me most is when you just keep digging and eventually your inventory is filled with numerous 999 stacks of dirt, stone, mud and whatnot so you can't carry the actual loot anymore. ._o

Stone Slabs?

That's what the trashbin slot in your inventory is for. Anything you put into it will be deleted when either something else is put in there or you Save and Exit the current map.

Heh, yes. I've used that to my advantage before. Though it is just one slot - I mean I'd probably collect all the dirt in the world too if it weren't for limited inventory space and my general laziness.

Anti off topic picture of an incomplete little museum.

Crackpot.756: Stone Slabs?
Okay... looks like I somehow completely missed a bunch of new items that were added. Maybe my eyes glazed over when I got to that part of the patch notes? Seriously, I knew about terrariums and the bug net which were added in the same patch, but not gemspark blocks or slabs, heh.

Thanks!

Gemspark blocks are amazing!
As for the slabs, I wouldn't have known either, it has been mentioned in this very thread. Now I'm looking forward to missing a bunch of new stuff myself with the upcoming update when it seems I don't even know half of what there is to know about the current state of the game.
Soooo, I just started playing this insanely addictive game a couple of days ago. Here's a pic of my tower. Please note the black grave stone where I went splat after falling. Didn't know you could take fall damage. Whoops. :)

Just know that falling into a deep enough pool of water prevents falling damage.
