I haven't really played this since the hardmode update, so I don't have any of the fancy new stuff in there. And can't decide whether to buy the GOG version, just so I don't have to start steam to play it, but getting tempted to play again anyway. Lots of words, sorry I got really interested in explaining and understand if you just look at the pictures, but please at least do that? Hope you like.
First is one of those you keep adding more and more to accommodate new additions, or as you need space for new NPCs. I didn't realize it was that large...
The original house became the merchant's place where he lives in the attic, since there are no doors. The stone brick house on the left with the banners is where the Tailor moved in. The main living area of the main house was quickly taken over by the nurse, apparently the little church like place I made her did not suit her needs...I do like my little graveyard though, and even started putting "coffins" in underneath them.
When the guide returned (yes, from death) he got the small room just under the bar. I made a lovely place for the demolitionist as well. Also being a fan of Dwarf Fortress, I tend to build underground more than above and didn't want the smelly goblin living too close to the rest of us. The mechanic moved in just under him...she's weird. And of course just beyond them is the cany cane hell well.
The second is my favorite place I've ever made in the game.
After a time I decided I really wanted solitude, a place without all the people opening/shutting doors all hours of the night and expecting me to serve their every need. So I set off and found a nice area and started building. I'm especially proud of the practicality of this castle.
The main entrance (on the left) is inaccessible to all but flying eyeballs (this is an early version of the game remember). Even to NPCs as it takes at least a double jump from the hills to reach the platform. Outside, congregating zombies are easily dispatched in the little pit-like area with not much danger to oneself. Otherwise it's a simple place, just some lighting a few tables and storage. I changed my room once I found some gold/silver blocks on a floating island. And the basement was appropriately decorated with some cobwebs.
The odd, out of place platforms above, peppered with corrupted stone, were designed for the fight with the Eye of Cthulhu, and worked quite well. Afterward a sign was added as a memorial and read something to the effect of: "Here the knight Arucard did fell the demonic Eye of Cthulhu".
I also forgot, something I love about this pic is I found out how to "place" the Angel Statue (before you actually could of course) by tossing it onto the table. :)
