UPDATE 22.04.2011:
We have uploaded a new version of the Downloader (0.9.0.1218). Please download it at your convenience and let us know if any of the problems you experienced earlier still persist.
Major changes include:
fixed problems with logging on,
the Downloader no longer attempts to move files after changing the destination folder,
you can now change the number of concurrent downloads (1 to 10) in the Downloader's options, in case you think the Downloader is overusing your connection.

UPDATE #2 (22.04.2011):
Version 0.9.0.1224 is out, introducing some backend fixes.

Did you try dropping the number of connections to one?

tritone: Agreed. This is exactly what I figured would happen (the final piece to be a separately-downloable item next week). It wasn't until a few minutes ago that I wondered if perhaps all the downloads stop at a "Paused" condition, and then next week you can pickup where you left off.

I won't be the last person to think this is a bug... unless they all read this post before posting. :)
Nope, you won't be the last person to think it's a bug :) I just thought it had got stuck somehow, possibly because of high server load. It didn't occur to me that it was by design. A suggestion would be to change the status message on the item in the list to "Paused - will restart on the release date (17th May 2011)" rather than just Paused.

Oh well, at least I know what's happening now. Thanks peeps!
I was wondering if someone from gog.com could answer a quick question for me!

I'm with the ISP bigpond in Australia and I noticed that when I downloaded a game using the new downloader this showed up as unmetered content for me.
It's also happened to others, I was wondering if you have any files hosted on Telstra/Bigpond files as this is a pretty big deal for a site like this to have content which won't affect our download caps.

Appreciate it very much!

Brotoles: I'd like to report an issue I had with the downloader.

I've used it to download The Witcher Enhanced Edition, and the game downloaded fine. But the chunk files from the last part downloaded (in my case "setup_the_witcher_enhanced_edition-3.bin") weren't erased after the download completed.

The "setup_the_witcher_enhanced_edition-3.bin" file was created correctly, but the chunk files were also left in the game folder.

Since the only chunk files left in the folder were from "setup_the_witcher_enhanced_edition-3.bin", I assume the downloader isn't erasing only the chunk files form the last downloaded part.

I can't say if this error is reproducible because I've only used the downloader this one time. By the way, I'm using the latest version as of this writing (v0.9.0.1372)
Just wanted to say that it *is* reproducible - just experienced exactly the same "problem" with The Witcher... That is, the download went fine, just the chunks from "...-3.bin" remained in the download folder for some reason although the actual file appears to have been created correctly - thus, not much of an issue really, but somewhat confusing ;)

Also, I think the old Version of the Downloader had slightly more options (such as adding new downloads as "paused" instead of having them start immediately)...
Be that as it may, apart from the above-mentioned chunk issue, the downloader works fine so far.

Miaghstir: Did you try dropping the number of connections to one?
Yep when I was poking around the options that was one thing I changed based on my last steam experience*. Didn't help

* I bought a game cheap on steam over last the christmas sale with the expectation of eventually getting broadband. It was only a bit over a gig and since I had already downloaded planescape torment from GOG in 3 weeks I figured I would give it a try. Sadly not to be as I spent 2 hours watching it create/delete/recreate the same 8 files repeatedly. This confirmed my long held belief that steam does not support resuming file downloads (since it deleted partly downloaded files) and gave the new impression that even when told its on a 56k modem it still tries to download 8 files in parallel with all the success of the 10 fatest people in the world trying to get into a mini.
Unfortunately for you, dial up really isn't considered part of the market anymore. You are buying off a site with often quite large files so you really can't expect to be supported much as a result. Really just splash out and go to broadband, it isn't that expensive (I am familiar with Australian prices) and your whole internet experience will dramatically improve.
Greetings.

First, I would like to say congratulations on the new GOG downloader. I have used version 0.9.0.1372 and The Witcher downloaded and installed effortlessly. In addition, I would like to commend the concurrent download option. After setting it to 10 connections, it was usually downloading at 3 megabytes per second and the whole process took about an hour. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised because with Steam, for instance, I rarely reach more than 700kb/s due to lack of this feature. All in all, very happy with it, and I have just one small question. I have noticed that the downloader remembered my login info even after I closed it. When it is open again I can log out, but restarting the client logged me back in automatically. I am curious to know if my login data is stored locally, and if it is stored locally, is it encrypted or not. As a last suggestion, I think that the combining process took quite a while, and I would love to see that one improved.

Congratulations again, and keep up the great work. :D

It works fine for me, though I did have a problem logging in when The Witcher was released the other day. It's nice to see the Install option on each entry in the downloader. I think another thing that would really improve it (though this is more to do with the installer, I guess) is if it you could set a download directory for it rather than the default one of C:\Program Files or whatever it is. It would be nice to click Install, Next and then just let it install.

The download directory is the same where the downloader sits, so just move it to where you want the downloads to be (since the downloader isn't installed but just an exe extracted wherever you want).

The install directory can be changed when you install each game, click the "Options" button to change it.

Yeah, I meant the install directory not the download one. It's just that on Steam, when you download a game it's both downloaded and installed at the same time. It's very convenient. It would be nice if when you click "Install" on the GOG Downloader, it goes straight to installing the game in the default directory (plus this game's subdirectory) rather than having to go to "Options" and set the download location each time you install a game. It's not the end of the world, obviously, but it does make the GOG Downloader stand out as a more clunky interface than Steam and I imagine it'd be pretty easy to implement.

Maybe, but that's the thing, the GOG downloader is just that, a downloader, not a downloader/installer/manager/launcher/IM-client/store-interface. Part of the DRM-freeness I suppose, but yes, they could be combined if GOG's Inno Setup based installers could accept command-line arguments for silent installs.
Looking for solution. When I try and download my game to the downloader. I get a small windows box that says " (EI41): bad signature" . I've tried removing the downloader and reinstalling but still get the same response. Thoughts ?

I have gotten that with King's Bounty and have not been able to fix it either. That is the only game I've been having problems with though, and it is isolated to the downloader download alone ... not the browser download.

The downloader does not recognize my login information. Everything is entered properly.

So what's the issue?

Any non-alphanumeric characters in your password? It seems the downloader has problems with = and maybe a couple others.
