UPDATE 22.04.2011:
We have uploaded a new version of the Downloader (0.9.0.1218). Please download it at your convenience and let us know if any of the problems you experienced earlier still persist.
Major changes include:
fixed problems with logging on,
the Downloader no longer attempts to move files after changing the destination folder,
you can now change the number of concurrent downloads (1 to 10) in the Downloader's options, in case you think the Downloader is overusing your connection.

UPDATE #2 (22.04.2011):
Version 0.9.0.1224 is out, introducing some backend fixes.

Will the downloader work with the other extras that GOG have for their games? if so does anybody have an Idea how to manually write a link for any of these things?

Navagon: Works fine for me. It seems unaffected by breaks in the connection. That's also the fastest I've seen my connection manage.

The ability to open the file through the downloader once it's done downloading would be nice.

The files I've downloaded look different to those I've downloaded in the past. Are these new, updated versions (new DOSbox configuration options and the like) or is it just how you've packaged them for this downloader?
The new Downloader supports multiple concurrent downloads, so it should be as fast as your connection allows.

It also downloads games in chunks, checks them for errors and redownloads a chunk only if it's corrupted. After it downloads all chunks it combines them into a regular installer. These are the same files that were available until now, only handled differently.
I lost my connection halfway through downloading Baldur's Gate 2 Complete, and there doesn't seem to be any way of resuming the download - I've tried using the 'pause' button at the top (which then gives me the "resume" option, but doesn't do anything). The 'pause' button on the individual games doesn't do anything.

EDIT: Restarting the downloader seems to resolve it, but right-clicking on the icon on the taskbar and left-clicking 'quit' doesn't close the application - I had to shut it down manually by terminating the process in the Task Manager.

With the new downloader you can achieve up to 6x faster downloads as every file is downloaded via multiple, parallel connections.

once the download is completed, merged and verified, there's a small "INSTALL" link below the progress bar. You can also enable auto launching installers via options.

I've also just noticed that you can start the installer by right clicking on the icon. My bad. But double clicking on it to start the installer might be more intuitive. Especially seeing how it works that way in Firefox.

Nice! That would certainly explain the speed increase.

Ok, it was brilliantly fast but there's something odd I noticed. I just downloaded Fallout and the installer doesn't have the familiar yellow GOG installer icon. What's going on there?

It does for me. That one is exactly the same as the one I have backed up. For me it's DN3D which is different. Are you sure it runs okay?

Please report this problem through the "Technical issues with games" support form and attach a DXDiag.txt file.
Try closing the Downloader from the taskbar. If the icon doesn't disappear, you will have to end the GOGDownloader process from your Task Manager. Let me know if this was the case.

Hmm... If you've got Windows XP, then that's the answer. ;) Displaying icons on large executables can be a problem for Windows XP, but this may affect Vista and 7 as well. The icon may appear eventually.
Please double-check if the installer passes the integrity check.

Should have been fixed in this build. Please submit the report - the DXDiag file should be useful for recreating this problem on our end. Thanks for the follow-up. :)

I had already installed and started the game before posting. The installer passed the downloader's integrity check, passed its own check and then installed so I'm pretty sure it's ok. Also, all my other installers including King's Bounty (quite a bit bigger than Fallout) have the icon.
I just got finished downloading Desperados, and am pleased to announce that the new downloader plays nice with sandboxie, apart from the step of needing to manually transfer it out of the sandbox after downloading and before installing, it works exactly as it would without the sandbox.
Working fine with Desperados here.

Will this eventually be able to download all the extras as well, or is it just for the game files?
Update: Well, it turns out that my internet didn't drop out - it's the GOG downloader that just stops downloading after a couple of minutes, then refuses to resume the download unless I terminate the application and restart it. Guess I'll stick to the browser method.
