UPDATE 22.04.2011:
We have uploaded a new version of the Downloader (0.9.0.1218). Please download it at your convenience and let us know if any of the problems you experienced earlier still persist.
Major changes include:
fixed problems with logging on,
the Downloader no longer attempts to move files after changing the destination folder,
you can now change the number of concurrent downloads (1 to 10) in the Downloader's options, in case you think the Downloader is overusing your connection.

UPDATE #2 (22.04.2011):
Version 0.9.0.1224 is out, introducing some backend fixes.

Just pre-downloaded The Witcher 2, and repurchased The Witcher 1 EE-DC since it was at such a great price & no more DVD searching :)

Only thing I'd like to report is that after downloading The Witcher 1 with the GoGDownloader, it did so fine, combined the files & installed the game no problems. BUT, I got a bunch of .chunk files left in the download directory which I think aren't needed.

For example:
setup_the_witcher_enhanced_edition-3.bin.chunk0 - 200 (that's 201 files!) are still in the directory taking a good chunk (pun intented :) ) of space while setup_the_witcher_enhanced_edition-3.bin already exists.

Can I delete those manually? (the 10MB chunk files)

Also reporting this to help debug the downloader.

/Cheers

Regards,

M

P.S. Thoroughly impressed by the installer. Just installed The Witcher as I mentioned & when I went to defrag the destination drive (using MyDefrag), there was nothing to defrag! Quite different from Steam where I always have to defrag after downloading/installing a new game. GG GoG

jodybody: With Firefox I had the same problem, now I tried Internet Explorer and it works.

Garudin: For me I got nothing on Firefox(probably just ignores it since it doesn't work)

On IE I get an basically an error report that says "gogdownloader://the_witcher_2/ is not a valid win32 application" and this happens with any game I try for my account of course instead of witcher 2 part is would say other game name
I tried on IE and got the same message :/
For anyone getting an error message, install the downloader, then reboot your computer. that allowed it to make the file association and then it worked fine. I'm using Firefox 3.6.16
Dunno what going on... I used IE with the line in the browser, it DL'd 242meg and just stopped.

Tried removing it from the downloader, now it wont go back into the downloaded, going to try updating the downloader.

The old client no longer recognises my login???

Something VERY odd,
Updated to 0.9.0.1224...

Got 9meg DL'd...

Download speed goes to 0kbs, cpu usage on the GOG downloader according to Windows Task Manager between 90% and 99%

Sorry GOG but this is really pissing me off.

What the hell is going on???

Two pcs later 3 browsers, i can only get onto GOG with my phone

What the fuck is going on.
Can you please add a feature to limit download speed?

I'm using NetLimiter 3 to control how much bandwidth my programs can use, but the GOG Downloader simply says "offline" and won't download anything if I impose a limit on it.

It seems to work in fits and starts sometimes, but always ends up dropping the connection. As I said, a built-in limiter that lets me define the download rate in KB/s or Mbps or whatever would probably solve this.

i added witcher 1 & 2 to the downloader, both appeared as paused, after checking some post in the forum i disabled avira webguard and the downloader unpaused and started downloading.
if this is not the proper place to submit this issue, let me know.
I love the speeds that the downloader offers, but I would also like to second abrigati's plea for a download limiter. I'd like to have the games download in the background while controlling how much bandwidth it uses so other programs can also use it.
Also, I just finished downloading The Witcher. Installed fine and passed the integrity check, but now I'm left with a bunch of chunk0,1, 2 etc. files as well as the usual executable and bin files. Can I safely delete those chunks? Seems like they should have been removed by the downloader when the files were consolidated, but I want to be sure before I go removing them.

I'm pretty sure you can. I moved the small chunks into a completely different location and then did an integrity check on the Witcher installer which remained in the original location. The installer completed the check fine so I went ahead and deleted the chunks myself. I haven't actually installed the game yet, but that seems to tell me that I won't have a problem when I do.

I just downloaded what was available of The Witcher 2, I downloaded The wicther, Temple of elemental Evil, Two Worlds and for some reason the downloader refuses to download Gothic 2. I've been trying to since yesterday.

I've been having issues downloading Gothic 2 as well. It seems to download ok at first, but then magically seems to "lose" progress on the progress bar after hitting 80 megs downloaded or so. Checking the downloaded file folder, this appears to be the case and not faulty reporting from the downloader.
I find the new downloader a bit of a disappointment. The advantages over the old air downloader are rather minor. Where are the convenient features that I may want?

Some of the things I want from the gog downloader are:
-Keep a library of bought games and act as a launcher (really the best part of steam).
-Ability to download extras, preferably by just right clicking any game in your library and selecting which you want. Possibly change right click to making each game a tree that can be expanded to show extras.
-Auto patching or at least automatic check for patches.
-Window resizing really this isn't '95 so why do we have to use the one size? I want to make it thinner and if I had a library then a little longer.

Really that's about it. I don't need chat or a store or a games overlay. This is a specialty program that knows exactly what it has to offer, so why does it need us to perform all these extra steps?

I'm not sure I understand. This program is meant to download and nothing more. While I agree about being able to download extras, and checking for updates (that might even be in the newest version), pretty much everything else you suggest would just add to the bloat you seem to be against in the first place. It's a program to pause, resume and verify downloads, nothing more.

My download was at 8535 out of 8597 MB this morning. I went to check on it after getting dressed and it was 8166.

Came back from breakfast and it was 8006 goes to 8008 then drops down to 7998 over and over again.

What the hell is going on? I want to play some witcher before my final!

It is now at 775 MB. Any ideas>

I can't find the files anywhere, and my hard drive says it has all this room all of a sudden.
