why do they keep putting that one up

MaximumBunny: I thought the incentive was for the random freebies in between more than the actual deals themselves? Didn't think it would be people staying up to get summer/winter grade deals. :P

But at least you incentivize it for new buyers and the gifting community since it's clearly not everyone's cuppa.

seashells: I have not seen a single free game :(
They're doing free games differently this insomnia. You buy 10 and you get one free, then if you buy 9 you get one free, etc. Probably to stop people hammering the servers at every game changeover like happened in the past.

It's a shame, but I prefer missing out on free games to seeing the GOG bear constantly when I genuinely wanted to buy something.

By not making them free by hiding them behind a paywall, thus ensuring that the users will go to sleep. Huehuehue. Evil. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

They also are hoping that the "saved info token" thing kicks off. This is their way of getting people to adopt a technology they paid to develop and test it on many users within a short time period. "Want the game before time runs out? SAVE YOUR INFO!"

Yes, I have mostly given up on purchasing the game I want the first time through. By the time I see if I might like it the game moves to the next game. So I write the game down for the next time through. The one I'm looking for is Van Helsing. I usually am not into horrors but found this to be an action-RPG in the mold of Diablo. Of course it was sold out within a minute. Next time through...

drinnen: So can someone explain why I get an explain with xx% off a bunch of games and come here and check my wishlist and find nothing on sale including half the game in the email? Did I just get cockteased?
It's a flash sale -- the "explain" (e-mail? =P ) you received mentioned games that are in the roster of games that will appear (multiple times) during the sale. The sale format is definitely not for everyone, but the games should repeat often enough that you should be able to snag at least one or two of your wishlisted games that were mentioned in that mail -- at least if you've got an hour or three to check the front page intermittently. Otherwise, just wait for a different sale (the last couple summer sales have been pretty leisurely-paced, and far less time-sensitive).

I've seen both the VanHelsing 1&2 combo pack and Van Helsing 3 on here.

As for deciding - you're doing it wrong. You click 'Buy Now', but then chicken out on the confirm page. Then you go to your order history. You'll see that the game is waiting (up to two hours, I believe) for you to decide that you want to purchase it.

Back in the In the 2nd insomnia sale, that's how you got freebies, was by clicking the 'buy now', and they'd tell you you had a 'swing and a miss' (I guess you'd not purchased enough), or you had a FREE checkout now button.

In the first insomnia sale (The Wrath of Keane), there'd be 10 or so in between every 2nd to 5th game, which just generally didn't work - most people never saw them (myself included). But we had some great images of the GOG-bear.

For this sale, it appears they're just gifting freebies if you hit 10 purchases. I'm told with bundled games, each game counts as a purchases, however DLC and premium editions do not. That may have been fixed since that was initially put out. Also, I heard that someone loaded his 'cart' early in the sale with stuff he didn't buy and was gifted Witcher 3. That's also been fixed I'm told.

edit: formatting, spelling, grammar and fixed Harvard commas.

I wouldn't recommend Van Helsing. They are very buggy and the developer doesn't seem too concerned with their GOG customers. If you're dead set on buying one just get the first one. They get progressively worse.

If you want a good ARPG I'd suggest Victor Vran or Grim Dawn. I found those far superior to Van Helsing.
I go to bed seeing Divinity Original Sin on sale, I wake up to the same game again... did I miss anything at all in the last 8 hours?

Just a few fires and a ninja attack. :P

All three Witcher games. Saint's row 2/3. And a bunch of crap.

Well, technically Recettear is not crap. It is unusual. I'm partial to the dungeon crawl sequences, as they remind me greatly of Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger. There is a lot of enemy recycling, and some farming, but you generally don't need farm unless you want to (or you are early into the game - you cannot sell anything in an empty store).

Well I'm kinda partial to 3D third-person games because I grew up playing Crash Bandicoot and Spyro.
Windows users (and also of NET 4+), feel free to utilize OnTopReplica. It's a handy little app that displays the thumbnail of the desired page, in a fully opaque or mostly transparent overlay to your desktop. Trick is not to minimize the Window you're scraping off of, otherwise it just freezes with the last item that was painted. Rumor has it that this works well with videos, so if you have some football matches you don't want to miss, but you want to continue the sleepy sheep sale, there you go.

I know I've logged over fifty hours in it, maybe closer to 75, and I'm still not completely finished with the dungeons. This was playing keyboard only. I'm interested to see how it plays with an Xbox for Windows controller. It is supposed to have support for that.

I keep looking at that "buy 9 more to unlock a free game" thing and keep hoping there's more to this sale than droning repetition...
