Than forgive me for saying this but I sadly never heard of him, but color me intrigued.

So what kind of litirature did this man wrote? Was he a fantasy writer, political writer?

a satirical fantasy writer
his biggest and best work is the discworld series which encompasses 40 books and each book tackles different kind of subject viewed through a satirical lens

guards guards for example ( the 8th book and the first guards novel ) satrises
cop and mystery books
film noir
show dog breeding by proxy of swamp dragon breeding
secret societies
king and prophency cliches
nobility and monarchy
the hobbit and smaug in particular

and faust/eric is a rollicking send up of faust dante's inferon the illiad and the trojan war
( eric has 3 wishes and he gets them alright just not the way he would like )

and they are all like that

Philosophical comedic fantasy would be the term I'd use. He made fun of most genres in literature and everything in human societies while at the same time creating something new all the time and giving lots of food for though in a humorous way.
It's pretty unique, very clever and damn funny, I've read a bloody lot of his books and will still need at least a decade to have read them all.

I rather imagined this to be sung by some drunkards who just got officially robbed by the thieves guild and are sitting in the shades after having been tossed outside of the broken drum by a troll.

Performing this the ultimate British pompous way is beyond absurdity. ;)

Well that sucks. Sounds like another really good reason to finally dig into the discworld books after they were recommended to me in the insomnia thread

I can only say his razor sharp wit, wonderfully funny satire and masterful command of the english language will be sorely missed.
