Serren: I have also seen the control layouts and know that Fallen Order uses dedicated buttons to automatically block and automatically dodge, which definitely means gameplay is simplified in relation to the JK games. It doesn't seem that you actually (manually) dodge, block/parry, counter, put together your own freeform combos or change stances on-the-fly as you do in JO and JA, among other shortcomings I noticed in comparison.

FYI, I've played Dark Souls/style games and have never been impressed or had fun. They are games of rote memorisation of enemy telegraphs and patterns, not skill or improvisation. They feel like modern day incarnations of Dragon's Lair.
Multiplayer of JO/JA consists of timing strong style strikes while jumping. Not a most complicated thing to do, but by gods, one which requires a lot of skill. But it's hardly different from skills you require for Dark Souls (and it's multiplayer component).

If you didn't found skill requirement or improvisation, that doesn't mean it's not; though I will agree it's not in the same wane as Terraria for example.

That's what it looks like in an FFA where people are just messing around having fun, but serious TFFA and duels are usually quite different.

Have you ever played against a good yellow or blue player? Most of the truly good players I've known switch up their stances many times in a fight. Footwork is key and that slow red stance can get you killed fast if you rely upon it too much.

I didn't play Jedi Knight games in multiplayer (I didn't managed to get multiplayer to work with my GOG version) but I observed some videos, talked with people who did etc. I study the meta of competitive multiplayer games in general, though I wouldn't call myself an expert in any beside AoE 2.

That said, I did watch quite more competitive Dark Souls videos, and even fought many PvP fights. Footwork and timing are just as important in DS as are in JK/JA/JO, even tough execution is "simpler". And getting back to JK, from my quick research right know, it seems that while players do change styles, they still predominately use strong style, or am I mistaken?

We're too far apart to ever see eye-to-eye on this, so I'm just gonna say agree to disagree. Sorry you wrote a bunch of stuff, but I just don't see a point to engaging further.
Finished this. If Dark Souls combat mixed with Tomb Raider gameplay in the Star Wars universe sounds up your alley then I can't imagine not enjoying it. It's a very well done console style action game. That's normally not my thing, so I didn't love it, but the Star Wars kept me enjoying it. Story is only okay but the Star Wars vibe is very well represented. Wish it had some kind of city/town hub area though.

I played on hard 99% of the game but went down to normal at the end because the fights got stupidly hard at the same time I was ready to be done with the game, which is a bad combination. It's a very long game, I far from 100%'d it and it still took me almost 30 hours.

tl;dr I see some scattered hate for this because it's EA and console focused, but it's great to see a game like this from them in 2019 and if you like the genre you'll want to play it.
It started well and then...fail..

Controls which are not tight enough, frustration for when enemies hit you with blasters or rocket launchers off camera. Crazy rope swinging from iced surfaces, average character development. three swing combo with the lightsaber when your main weapon is the lightsaber. Force powers with no real punch. Gameplay which is decidingly average, where is the excitement, the thrill of being a Jedi, the mystery, thermal detonators, canteen fights, laser fights. No, instead let's play pinball and push balls aimlessly around for a puzzle. Pointless backtracking, secrets which have little to no use, Oh, ok the stimpacks, wow score... People want a great Star Wars game, but this clearly isn't it.

Then consider Star Wars Dark Forces and Star Wars Jedi Outcast far better games from a decade ago.

Are gamers really willing to accept any Star Wars game these days.

Seriously, Star Wars has the tools to make such fantastic games and this is what we get... Star Wars let's go tomb raiding.
I'm fine with a new Star Wars game -- even though I detest current EA -- but the casting of the main character in this game is just too distracting for me. I just can't get beyond his doughy face and delivery; it's seriously distracting for me. While I'm not a huge Sam Witwer fan, I bought him immediately as Vader's Apprentice in The Force Unleashed.

At least this wasn't another SW multiplayer cash-grab.

I don't know if it's EA exclusive, it might also be some Disney hate mixed in. I can't believe how many people complain about the Mandalorian being a bad tv show. That it's full of cliches and formulaic... It's mind boggling.

Never had any kind of problem with this.

True, if you are locked onto an enemy.

Well, I finished it. Was positive overall, 7-8/10 for my money. It is obviously built for console, so controller is required. Controls are good, and pretty solid. Unless facing one opponent t I would t use lock on, so being attacked from multiple directions is less of an issue. There were some annoyances, like jumping off ropes sends you off on a strange angle which means you miss the next rope, and trying to aim the flame to move the chain was a pain. But overall, solid. It’s not too difficult, only one battle (you know which one) gave me issues, just be aggressive.
Environments are fun enough, some graphical glitches. Characters are typical Disney, really did not like the main character at all and most of the other characters were pretty grey. BD is ok. Story, can’t really say much, it’s pretty seen it before forgettable. Good exploration, and some puzzles, though it’s not tomb raider. There is no replayability, you will finish the game at around 80-90% if you look, and there really is no reason to find it all. Most of the things are just cosmetic nothings, so there really isn’t much to find. Skills are limited also, health, spirit, and some light sabre skills, all pretty meh. Enemies were varied and interesting, plus detailed and occasionally challenging. Could do with a few dlc to expand the game somewhat.
I'm not interested in this sort of thing, but I did learn that the game apparently lacks character customization, or is at least very limited. In particular, you can't play as a female character or as an alien.

(Even Jedi Academy at least had a female character option, and that was a much older game that didn't even pretend to be an RPG.)

Never locked onto an enemy once the whole game.

Well, much of the hate is built up anger from two MP microtransaction-filled Battlefront games instead of a strong single-player game like 1313... which they killed. Fallen Order should have been EA's first Star Wars game.

The same thing is happening in the train wreck of Disney Star Wars movies... using tv. The Mandalorian is a thinly-veiled reworking of the live-action Boba Fett series Lucas was developing... and the Kenobi series was also being bandied about by Lucas pre-Disney.

On all fronts, the Star Wars license post-Lucas didn't know what people wanted but is starting to course correct... and strangely it's correcting more toward ideas that Lucas was working on pre-Disney (in fact Disney has been actively working with Lucas behind-the-scenes since TLJ). Crazy... but after a rough start promising for the future... *fingers crossed*

It's a story-driven action / adventure game just like Uncharted or Tomb Raider where you play as Nathan Drake or Lara Croft respectively. Seems pretty standard for action adventure titles.

I refuse to believe Lucas is the savior, since the prequels were horrible for the most part and he had the least to do with the best original trilogy movie. Also I think the fans are kind of confused about what they want, because Solo was by far the most "original trilogy feeling" movie, and it tanked and gets mocked constantly.

In any event, looking forward to watching The Mandalorian when all the episodes are out.
