This came out today. Don't usually start threads for new games here, but thought since it's Star Wars people might want to discuss it.

So far I am surprised by how "Dark Souls" it is. I heard the combat would be influenced by Dark Souls but didn't realize it would have the save stations, healing flasks, stat improvements and Metroid style areas like Dark Souls has as well. Story seems good, very typical Star Wars. Graphics can look great or meh, which I find odd. It's mostly lighting effects that excel while geometry and such is weaker. Very typical for a late-gen console port I guess.

Performance is pretty good on my 2070 at 1440p, though I get stutters when its loading new areas. This seems to be very common judging by other forums.
I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan, apart from the first 2 movies. But I actually like the look of this game, it sounds like something I'll like. I like the sound of the combat and progression. A lot will dump on it without ever playing because it's an EA game, but I'm more open minded.

I'm just hoping that major fights are actually something you have to actually physically fight and not just a series of cutscenes linked by QTE's like so many games recently. But it doesn't sound that way from what I've read so far.

Edit: in any case, it can't be as bad as the Force Unleashed games.

I'm only a couple hours in but the combat is very good. Like Dark Souls but faster and more fluid. The tutorial is set on a train and you're reflecting laser shots back at distant enemies between parrying and attacking close enemies, and it feels very cool and like you're a jedi. There are some rare QTE moments, but it's nowhere near a common part of the game. Mostly just cutscene stuff.
I just can't get over the fact how super generically bland the protagonist comes across. It's like they intentionally picked the most inoffensive and uninteresting character they could come up with. Bleh.

Sounds like a typical Jedi. :-)
It's funny how bad use of SW license EA made till now. Only two Battlefronts which are decent, but not great games. Now comes the third game - SW Jedi Fallen Order and from what I've seen it's a really good single player title. But I'm still waiting for KOTOR3. EA has the license, has the money and has BioWare. It's hard for me to understand why they're wasting their potential. And yes, I know that The Old Republic MMO is a sequel for KOTOR2, but it's simply not the same.

I thought it might be interesting but I don't like dark souls like or inspired games and I read it's linear, only 3 force abilities and no stealth section opportunities.

How is parrying? Are there special enemies that can break through the light saber? Any counter attacks?
This looks dope. Dark Souls is one of my favourite games of all time and a SW game that plays like that sounds fantastic. Also really like the look of it and the difficulty from what I've heard. The only thing that worries me is that it's supposedly only a 20 hour game with no replay value which for me is a bit short for 60 bucks so I'll wait for a sale but so far I really love what I've seen.

Imagine that: EA making an actual good SW game is both great and puzzling at the same time.
As a Star Wars fan I think this won't be for me. I'd rather sit with the non cgi yoda on yavin and feel the force betwee me and that tree and rock ;)

"Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will. Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

I miss when Star Wars was actually good and stood for something more than making money.......a Long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

The annoying part is that TOR actually has some good story content and cool worlds, it's just ruined by MMO crap. They (or an amazing modder) could tweak that game to be a great singleplayer RPG and I'd be so happy, but it will never happen.

Dagobah. And that was just an elaborate way of saying the X-Wing could be lifted ... (amusingly, the old EU contradicted that speech very often, by authors claiming ESB being their favourite). And he was wrong about the dark side, the last act of RotS is OB1 doing wrong everything Luke did right in RotJ. Good job.

About combat. How do they justify Dark Souls combat? The mc should have lightsaber training, not the player.

LOL this was my exact same first thought teceem ;)

I've only seen snippets of the game - I think I actually stumbed on it while perusing Amazon one day. Looked awesome though I'm not sure if it's enough to push me back into console gaming.

KotOR 3 would end up being something like "Mass Effect: Star Wars", so be careful what you wish for! (you can clearly see that Mass Effect is an evolution of KotOR, so I think a new KotOR would be nothing more than a 3rd person story shooter)

From what I've been reading the game kind of falls apart after the first few hours with tedious saminess and repetition for the rest of the game. Yeeeeah, that doesn't sound very appealing to me.
