I cannot blame you, and I respect your choice.
You have been here for quite a while and when compared to you it seems like I have just joined, yet I largely share your feelings.
Maybe it is just my perception or I am simply not very lucky when viewing threads, but I noticed that the amount of bitterness, aggressiveness, disrespect, propaganda-like-fanboyism (on many sides) and general intolerance to others' opinions -especially if they are strong ones, no matter the topic involved, spanning from serious social matters to criticizing the core design of famous games- has dramatically increased in the last months.
Now, I see lots of rude, arrogant and not elaborated (it seems like explaining the motives behind an opinion is out of fashion) replies; while it is true that the GOG community is still a paradise when compared to the average, this is starting to overweight the positivity I get when coming here – in fact, lately I have been posting nearly nothing, and I don't think the situation will change.
Now, I mostly stick to the "private" areas of the site, basically only chatting with the people I had the luck to meet before GOG became... well... too famous to maintain peaceful forums. :P
Just like you, I have a problem in digesting some kind of comments, and since I usually feel the need to point that out as soon as I can and never step back when I feel insulted (directly or indirectly) or I see my opinion misinterpreted, I think it would be better to just skip the conversation altogether and sparing the bother both to myself and to the other readers.
I think many others felt the same way, noticing how many great users have already abandoned the boards and how many others have become a lot more quiet recently. It's a real pity that you are going, too, as even if sometimes -let's be honest- your attitude got a bit on my nerves, your posts are usually clever, interesting and reasonable.
Anyway... my best wishes for everything! :)
