X Rebirth and Home of Light - Complete Edition, the vast sci-fi simulations where you go into space adventures that will deeply affect the universe, are available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac, and Linux, with a 50% launch discount.

The future is a scary place but one rife with opportunities for daring spacefarers. As the universe realigns itself, preparing for the upcoming changes looming on the horizon, our young protagonist and his female ally will set out seeking adventure aboard their ramshackle spaceship, unaware of the deep impact they will have on the events already set in motion.

X Rebirth is a huge sandbox, which allows you to make a fortune by trading or fighting, and eventually even build your own empire which will harbor an abundance of resources or bolster your military prowess. After a rocky release, it has come a long way and now X-Rebirth: Home of Light opens up the universe even further, bringing new missions, new enemies, and new weapons with which to conquer them. The Complete Edition also features the Teladi Outpost DLC, where you get to venture into a dangerous station teeming with smugglers, pirates and other space troublemakers, that will help or hinder you on your way to master the endless galaxy.

Seize your rightful opportunities in the sandbox galaxy of X Rebirth, DRM-free on GOG.com. For an even more varied adventure, consider picking up the all-inclusive Home of Light - Complete Edition, also going for 50% off. Or upgrade your universe later, with a 20% discount.
The launch discounts will last until February 29, 2:59 PM GMT.
Nice to see another X game here, but where is the 2 volume soundtrack?

HunchBluntley: I believe you're supposed to take the little round orange-ish tablets with food, otherwise they don't take effect and the voices come back. : ]

budejovice: I was merely going to suggest Fairfox continue to read the surrealist authors they have been reading because that stuff above is gold.
Or that, yes.

Another Complete Edition that is not complete... The 2 missing soundtracks are the reason I'm not going to buy it asap.

(reposting from the Egosoft forums)

Hello X veterans and newcomers!

WHAT: X-Rebirth (Complete Edition) GOG Release livestream

This is the first time I'm playing X-Rebirth, it should be interesting, hope to see you there :) I will try to show a bit from the DLCs too although no promises (hard to fit all that stuff in a 2 hours release stream).

I apologize for the very late hour for European viewers, if you are interested in watching the recording of the stream please let me know and I'll post a link to it on this thread, thanks!

srsly GOG team? I must be very hard to get some good games on this page...

...if it where at least a bad multiplayer racing game, but its a broken xbox port of a game that was released ~3 years ago. A game(of a great series) that will never be missed or remembered due its awful design and bugs.

I see you dont really like us GoG.
Well, well, well, look what we have here.

The game that made me completely abandon Egosoft due to their decision to move to steam exclusive. I have Egosoft to thank for this as it instrumented my joining GoG.

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=333164

There were 100's of pages arguing against their decision to move to steam exclusive but they did it anyway. I will have to thank Egosoft for this move again, because it spared me from buying one of the most heavily criticised games released that year.

Bernd/CBJ, if you are reading this, I did boycott and am glad I held to my principles, as you have obviously lost yours again. I will not be buying now that you have finally realised that steam DRM maybe not such a good thing, nor will I risk funding your next project.

To everyone else- I am glad that you now have the oppurtunity to buy this game DRM free. Enjoy it. Just do your extensive homework on the game before you buy.

You know what's funny? I'm in exactly the same position you are and I feel exactly the same way about it. I would only add that this is the game that made me realize I would never, ever join Steam under any circumstances.

I enjoyed the X3 games quite a bit, though. I actually have X2 sitting on my shelf as well, and I've been meaning to give it a try for a long time. The problem is, I know how much time is required to play it properly.

Great! I'll have to buy this over the weekend, along with some games from the weekend sale.

Fortunately I don't have any old grudges with the publisher which would somehow prevent me from buying the game. I'll happily pay them for bringing the game DRM-free to GOG, and also apparently not abandoning the game but still developing (and fixing?) it. So what if some others found the initial version awful?

Plus I happen to like space combat games! Currently playing Freespace: Silent Threat, and I've played some of the tutorial of the first X game too.

More space games is good in my books :-)

Even if this has now been polished into a wholesome game, there are still some game mechanics that do not suit my tastes; the single player ship is actually not a problem in my eyes. The game should be a fair bit bigger too with the Home of Light addon. Who knows, maybe I will get this one day but this year is not likely.

Here is to hope that Egosoft's next game will be awesome.
I'm not trying to talk anyone out of buying it, especially here on GOG.com.

If you weren't around on the Egosoft boards when the whole stink went down, there's no reason not to give it a try if you want.

On the other hand, those of us who were around have not forgotten, and find a rich irony in Rebirth showing up here. There's nothing wrong with pointing that out.

IAmSinistar: Ah, now it's on the front page. Showed up in my New To You list and couldn't find the announcement. :)

Nice discount, love me some 4X space games, so will probably get thanks to this nice discount.

JudasIscariot: It's more of a space sim rather than 4X imho :P
I haven't checked the comments yet, but is there a reason the Collector's Edition isn't for sale here also?
Thanks GOG.

Instabuy X REBIRTH: HOME OF LIGHT COMPLETE EDITION. I'm not sure I have time to play it soon, but one can only hope.

P.S. I really hope we get the soundtracks added at some points to the list of goodies.
Big fan of the X series, 1000+ hours played across X2-X3. I hated Rebirth, bought it at launch and regretted. One ship and that's all you get compared to X2-X3 where u can buy and fly any ship you wanted. It was very bad at launch as well. Not sure how the state of the game is like now.

Hope they are working on real X4 atm.
