IAmSinistar: Ah, thanks, I think I grasp it now. Might hold off for a bit then. Probably need a more powerful PC anyway. :P
Yes, it will bring to its knees the most powerful systems :). It's similar to the original X-Beyond the Frontier, rather than the newer X3, still for me it's one of my most wanted for some perverse reason. So, instabought :)

omega64: So was this released just to complete the series on here?
33% positive ratings on Steam doesn't seem al that good.
I'm hoping this is because of it improving massively since release. (I don't know how much changed with those patches)

Konrad: The game got kinda slaughtered at launch, but the 4.0 patch (released just now) and the Home of Light expansion are supposed to make huge improvements to the whole thing.

Here's hoping, I'm waiting to get home and play it finally.
^^This. It has changed a lot since launch. These devs don't abandon their games.
X series was always the games that I wanted to play but It was, somehow, to complicated for me to enjoy... how is this one?
Another one to add to the wishlist.
They may have fixed it, but from what I'm understand the underlying game mechanics still exist which were a real departure from the X series which left most fans bitching (mainly in terms of ships and economy). I think in this you still cannot change ships to fly, which is just a radical departure from the X series it's not even the same game.

The ultimate game in this series is X3.
Bought this on steam when i saw the trailers and was burned by the game a lot when it turned out a lot different to what the other x games where like. ~I am in 2 minds on getting it here after all this time but not sure if i should buy it again and again being disappointed in it.

It seems i am cursed with these types of games as Elite Dangerous i backed as well and had the nightmare of the single player offline mode removed at last moment.

Sounds interesting... I'll hope to hear back on stability and playability of the game before i consider buying... And i haven't played the X games yet (procrastinating) so i think i have some time before i need to buy rebirth.
This looks interesting. Should I start with the first game in the series?
Keeping my eye on this aswell..Another Space sim is Evochron Legacy over on steam,or direct from Starwraith

Really hope they both sell well,

In that "rebirth" is quite consequent. You couldn't change ships in X - Beyond the Frontier. Multiple flyable ships were introduced with X-Tension (which was a sandbox-version of X-BtF without story) and later in X2.

Still it feels like a huge step back of course.

Wishlisted this for now, I still have to complete X2 and the X3s, that should take a few years...

IIRC this one is supposed to be a reboot of the series. The only pro I could think of starting with the original X (besides seeing how it all started) would be being less spoiled by the visuals if you had not played another part of the series first.

edit:
And cockpits. That could be a reverse spoiling thing. I know I was really pissed that after X & X2 there where no 'pits and bridges anymore in the game.

I'm told 4.0 is free of most problems that plagued released so, sure, i'll take the home of light edition home with me.
If this is a space sim, do you get a choice or possibility of buying other ships in the game at some point?
So this is not the Collector's Edition with Soundtracks?
