Time is (of) the essence

Braid, the subversive, time-manipulating platformer with the evocative story, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 50% launch discount.

It's been played, studied, and thoroughly discussed. Some praise its brilliant time-bending mechanics that make each level a complex gauntlet of puzzle-platforming delight. Others debate the deliberately obscure story that deals with personal redemption, broader philosophical themes, and meta-commentary on gaming's conventions.

Everybody recognises it as a masterfully crafted experience that put Jonathan Blow in the spotlight and helped usher the golden age of indies. If you haven't tried it, now is your chance to turn back time and give it a spin. Your future self will surely thank you for it.

Catch up on a timeless classic and untangle the brilliant challenges of Braid, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until May 18, 12:59 PM UTC.

In the press:
"Diabolically clever and incredibly rewarding" - Giant Bomb
"Beautiful, entertaining, and inspiring" - Eurogamer
"An instant indie classic" - Total PC Gaming
Nice game. But horribly overpriced. Asking 15 € for it after it has been in several 'pay what you want' bundles (DRM free too) is quite ridiculous. I'm not going to buy it at that price.
Better late than never, I guess. ;)

I've always wanted to try this one so I'll probably get it once the price is fair.
Oh well, got that in a bundle some time ago. And while it was nice, it wasn't so good that I'd feel the need to rebuy it here. But more releases are always a good thing.
Beautiful release ^_^

Guess was main reason for holdup getting the game here.. surprise surprise...

Waiting for all the rose tinted glasses reviews ...

CharlesGrey: I didn't keep close track of it, but I remember there were some threads here a while back about how the game ( The Witness ) had a high piracy rate, and about how its performance on Steam was kinda underwhelming. Wasn't that one of the reasons Blow changed his mind about even releasing it here? I seem to remember his original attitude regarding GOG was along the lines of "Either they accept my terms, or my games won't be released there. I have other options, and don't need them."... ?
Haven't really been keeping track of the whole "Blow vs. GOG" thing, so I can't really comment on that (maybe Barry or someone else can).

Although I do remember Blow talking about his game being pirated back in January, but literally a week or two after that he talked about how great his game is doing on both PS4 and PC (http://the-witness.net/news/2016/02/fun-sales-fakts/), and that was without any sort of discount since launch. The SteamSpy numbers that one poster made pasted in The Witness thread don't exactly scream "underwhelming". Outside of those tweets he made on Twitter (and he did mention the thought of using DRM, but had second thoughts as well: "That might happen on the next game, I don't know! I don't like DRM because I think people should have the freedom to own things"), I didn't find anything else after that regarding The Wtiness and piracy.
Yaaay... Braid.. I did play it for couple of hours on some PS2 or PS3 at one party, and really loved it. Every bit of it (went trough only first chapter maybe?).

I don't mind paying this price for such little gem, looks completely OK to me, it's like ~10-15min on go-karts, I already had as much fun from it back then.

Thanks GOG and J.Blow.

Done a double take and thought it said JLo:)

CARRiON.FLOWERS: Beat this game a while back. Hated it.
Why did you beat it if you hated it? -.-
Woo, I've been waiting for this :D

Now we just need Super Meat Boy and Limbo, and I'll be feeling pretty damn good :)

Oh, and Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

Why aren't Edmund McMillen's games on here? I'm off to nag someone.

I finish what I start usually. Rarely will I completely give up on something unless something like the controls are bad enough or the AI is broken or cheap enough.

Is it really that uncommon for people to finish games they aren't enjoying? I've played many games that started off rough but later on I find something I like. Didn't happen with Braid though.

Hmm, I dunno about that one. Usually games start off with a great first impression, then they have roller-coaster levels of enjoyment. Some games however, are amazing the whole way through.

If something seems crap at the start, it generally doesn't get much better for me at least.

That's really really positive attitude.

Quite possibly the answer is yes. At least it happens to me and people I know real life. Moreso that in this modern day and age games are available everywhere and they're getting cheaper so people don't have that a lot of emotional attachment like when they pay 60 USD a pop.

I checked my progress and the last achievement popped up is 'completing world 2'. I already have forgotten how it was like, but probably the game was difficult enough for me so I abandoned it. I'll just try it again later this weekend.
Looking at the screenshots, I really don't like the look of the protagonist: his face, his outfit :D
I don't think I'll play this again. It's the kind of game I don't see myself playing ever again.
But there's nothing so terrible about the game, it just doesn't have a high replay value.
But nice job, Gog.
