Genre: Action, Adventure
Discount: 85% off until 10th October 2022, 1 PM UTC.

Feel free to discover other games inspired by the works of famous fantasy writers, like A Game of Thrones: The Board Game or The Wheel of Time. For more deals on unforgettable titles, check out the 14th GOG Anniversary which will last until October 9th, 2022, 10 PM UTC.
The "Nothing will be forgotten" feature that transferred orcs from the first game to the second game was a little bit like the "Lock-On Technology" of Sonic 3 and Knuckles (and Knuckles in Sonic 2) and it is sad to see it gone in the GOG release.
This is really nice! Can you bring Mortal Kombat XL? Since MK9 is not longer on sale anywhere, and the Injustice Series if possible to have some good fighting games on the store :) Online be damned.

WinterSnowfall: Well, there's no direct correlation between texture size and resolution
Why would anybody think a Texture Size had anything to do with the monitors resolution they are not the same thing.

4k Resolution = 3840 × 2160 Pixels
4k Texture = 4096 × 4096 Pixels

avatar
WinterSnowfall: there's no such thing as "4K textures" per se).
No you simply don't understand what the term means, I'll enlighten you

1k Texture = 1024 × 1024 Pixels
2k Texture = 2048 × 2048 Pixels
4k Texture = 4096 × 4096 Pixels

These 2D textures get wrapped around a "3D" mesh made up of numerous triangles, more triangles gives higher quality shapes.
The combination of Texture = Mesh determines the overall quality of the asset. regardless of what resolution the monitor is using.

avatar
WinterSnowfall: Now if you want to sit 30cm away from your 4K or dare I say 8K monitor and admire a highly detailed bit of drool in the corner of an orc's mouth, then you certainly will need the "High Resolution" texture pack
Again wrong, the size of textures determines how close the GAME CAMERA must get to the TEXTURE before becoming they start to become pixelated.

Your distance from the screen is pretty much irrelevant, to this process, except for how easy it is for you to see that pixelated texture, which is more a matter of how good your eyesight happens to b, but that aspect is a variable outside the games control, and thus cannot be considered relevant.

4k Textures, and even more so 10,000+ triangle "plant pots", can tank your performance, so a sensible balance must be reached.
Some recent games even allow you to increase the Texture size, giving warnings when you get close to your GPUs max VRAM,

Edit to add
Games tend to the low end, for texture/mesh sizes to support a wider hardware range, and these "High Res" Texture packs are for those that have VRAM headroom, so having a setting in game, so that you can increase them if wanted is better for those us with more VRAM.

Cool.

Maybe be careful about buying this right now. WB is currently in a state of panic and it's only a matter of time before WBIE comes under scrutiny. What's the worst that could happen? Maybe ask the people who panic bought Final Space only to have it mass removed from their digital libraries as part of an ongoing purge of "unprofitable" material.

*Sigh* I feel like I'm being "educated" on everything I say lately... perhaps I have a problem with getting my points across, who knows.

Consider that maybe not everyone is a game dev and when people see "4K Textures" next to "4K Cutscenes" they will think of the resolution, not the texture size. I hardly want to add to the confusion. But you can call them whatever you wish.

avatar

Right... because I haven't worked with 3D graphics at all, is that what you think? Ha!

Anyway, you can't technically call it a "4K Texture pack" because:
a) It's probably higher than "4K" when it comes to the max texture size
b) Not all textures will be "4K", because not all textures need to be "4K"

avatar
UhuruNUru: Again wrong, the size of textures determines how close the GAME CAMERA must get to the TEXTURE before becoming they start to become pixelated.
Fair enough on this point. You do want textures that look nice at a certain screen resolution when you're really up close to them. You're contradicting yourself here however, because the very notion of "pixelated", my friend, has everything to do with screen resolution. You can't decouple that from texture resolution, much like you can't decouple the sensitivity of the human eye from the designed screen size and resolution of monitors.

Distance from the screen is very much relevant when it comes to a person's subjective perception. How could you even perceive ultra-high rez textures if you're sitting way back and a pixel on your screen barely covers a miliarcsecond of your sight, even if you're fully zoomed in on an object?

Agreed with all the rest, but I'd argue not everyone benefits from increased texture size beyond a certain point, depending on how they choose to play a game and their hardware, especially their monitor resolution.

Edit: A question for you to ponder on: would increased texture size benefit you if, ad absurdum, you were stuck playing games at 800x600, like it's the turn of the century? Would camera distance be responsible for making your ultra-high rez textures look pixelated then?

GOG is on fire recently! And destroying my bank account obviously!

Keep 'em comin'! I had a reserve for this exact reason and don't mind spending for great releases like these.

Let's get MK 9 and 10 and Fallout 4 while we're at it
Just got my key from Prime Gaming. It's the standard edition.
https://gaming.amazon.com/loot/shadowofwar

Is there any difference for the definitive edition other than the expansions?

Hm. You're probably not aware of the fact that that's exactly the reason we're buying here, right?
For me games heavily based on some licences (as movie- or comic-based ones) or games published by companies being in trouble are the highest priority to purchase on GOG, because they may disappear from stores or even other stores libraries, but will never be lost once I've grabbed DRM Free copy.

Definitive Edition is just base game + Expansion Pass, no other differences.

I suppose no, otherwise it would be noted on its page.

Again, people are having their legal digital purchases of Final Space forcibly removed from their libraries because WB is purging it from existence, so your copy isn't safe either, no matter where you buy it.

This is why offline installers are your friends.
WOW!!!!!! That was a helluva download size! lol Glad to liberate it from Steam though. I gotta say, GOG and Amazon did this the right way this time. Instead of a simultaneous release, it was staggered by a few days. Also kinda wise just to give out codes for the base version knowing that most folks want it all. Pretty smart for once in terms of business for both companies. As for the titles being yanked from my library....never once considered or cared about that. That's why I have numerous SSDs, and external HDDs. I don't see how WB could legally remove a digital license though. I've heard about it, but sounds almost like a fantasy to me. Let's see them break into my PC. As for achievements....... I don't give a damn about that either. I don't need a trophy just to play a game. I'll play it for fun. Always thought achievements were rather pointless. As for the HD textures. They make a tremendous difference. I don't know why folks are saying that high is already sharp enough. No....no, it isn't. The difference is vast.

Nice release! The more releases like this and Skyrim the more money you'll be getting out of me. More high-quality AA, AAA, and indie releases, please!

In order for that to happen with Shadow of War or any other WB-developed/published title available on/purchased through GoG WB would need to hack into every single PC that has the corresponding offline installers on it. Which, in my case is virtually impossible anyway, since the actual gaming rig that also stores the offline installers never is, never was and never will be connected to the net.
