Breja: I wouldn't call the lead actress doing a poor job and her character being bland and boring "minutia". Also, I actually liked the last Indiana movie.

hedwards: It seems to me that the issue here is that you don't understand what her character is and why it's in the movie at all. She's not really intended to be much of a lead here. She's basically playing a cross between Princess Leia and badass Leia. Somebody to help develop Fin's character as he goes from Stormtrooper to hero of the resistance.

And compared with the loud and obnoxious women that have become so common in movies, her subtlety is a breathe of fresh air. The fact that she conveys the indignation with a look rather than giving a 20 minute monologue about how men are sexist pigs is something that other actresses could learn from.

Anyways, the movie had serious problems, but her performance is definitely not one of those problems. She played the role correctly and the role was important. My guess is that in the next movie they'll build on that the way they built upon Luke, Leia and Han's weird love triangle.
I'm pretty convinced she's Luke's daughter. I also think she's why he left and stuck himself away on a planet in the middle of nowhere. he must have seen something in the force, and he dares not take the chance. it seemed obvious to me that rey is the lead in this movie. it's just the fact that finn is such an awesome character that he masks it a bit.

in fact, I had the opposite reaction as you. by the end of the movie, I was beginning to wonder about the finn character's role in all of this and what he is doing at the centre of things. they are sharing the lead and both of those characters and their plots so far are pretty much the one saving grace that kept the movie from being completely just a case of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope HD Remastered.

I'm hoping she's Obi-wan's granddaughter, it'd just give us something cool to see if they ever do make an Obi-wan solo film like they've considered. Plus, when people start considering a fan theory as practically canon I start hoping it isn't just to keep things fresh. Although Obi-wan being her grandfather wouldn't preclude Luke from being her father, it just allows the reveal to still have some surprise to it.

hedwards: Probably, but it would probably do you some good to watch the movie as it was intended as it sounds like a much better version.

Breja: It's funny how the way you talk about it is exactly like that thing about tasting the ham wrong P1na described :D
LOL,

This reminds me of the first few times I saw Will Ferrell. I didn't think he was funny and didn't know why anybody else did. Then, I was enlightened.

Firefly had similar problems where the idiots at Fox advertised the series in such a way that people tuning in weren't in the right frame to enjoy it. And the people likely to enjoy it never tuned in because the adverts were so bad.

LoboBlanco: Read amrit9037 suggestion ;P

My thought when I read SeduceMePlz´s post :D

What about
avatar
wolfsrain: I prefer the original, not so sexed-up Tanya. That one was actually a piece of work.

As for why i do not want Daisy as Lara, it's very simple: she can't act. We'll talk after a few more movies and a couple of years if she improved, but right now she's just as bad as the teens from The Shannara Chronicles and other identical series that are targeted to teens.

And i really don't think that bust is overly important (plenty of stuff to fool you in our day). The acting is the thing that counts. Having a good story and dialogues helps, too. Lara is overconfident, quite intelligent, sarcastic and an acomplished athlete. It's more than boobs. So let's not fixate on that. Let's see who can be all the other things. And for some stupid reason Hayley Atwell comes in my mind (and no, that's not because Agent Carter, but because she has a lot of acting experience and a fragton of series that she was in)
My arrow was pointing Sophie not Daisy ;P but you are right..........bust isn´t overly important.................BUTT IS!!! :D

5) Responsible for killing now extinct species of animals (dinosaurs).
6) Incompetence as argeologist by destroying digsites.

tinyE: Whoever said she was an archaeologist?

Lara makes it very clear she is there to raid, not study document and/or preserve.
No, no, no...........you got it wrong!
No one said she was an archaeologist, she was an ARgeologist...........that is a person trained to unearth augmented reality cards for mobile consoles.

I am an RPG PC fancier, yet I know of Tomb Rider, even if unwilling to play it.

This said - why do you care about any movie? It was done, already. And strength of gaming carried forth, with some money surely.

DaCostaBR: I'm hoping she's Obi-wan's granddaughter,
You know what would be a real twist? If she wasn't related to anyone we know :D I think that's the only theory that hasn't come up yet, and the only thing that could surprise people.

Although I'm probably kidding myself, it probably is already among the myriad fan theories. I once thought I was very clever when I came up with the idea that Anankin was actually "made" by Darth Plagueis, who as we were told could "manipulate midichlorians to create life". But of course when I googled it, I found it's an idea as old as Revenge of the Sith.

If you want to know more about Plagueis I highly suggest you read the main book about him written by James Luceno. It's not amazing but I thought it was good especially because you gain great insights into Palpatine who's a far more interesting character than some boring fascist as he is depicted in the old trilogy.

DaCostaBR: And then you said it: SJW. Here's where I check out, there can be no further discussion from this point. You've given me a label, I'm the enemy now.
Really, dude? You're complaining about a label, one that wasn't even directly applied to you, when you're straw-manning the holy hell out of what he posted?

He criticizes Ridley's acting, unathletic "waif" physique, and breast size.

Look at the words he uses to describe Cohan's suitability and her previous roles:

"sophisticated and sexy" "clever rogue" "credible toughness"

The pics he posted definitely aren't "boob pics".

But you reduce his opinion to:

avatar
DaCostaBR: You do realize they're casting an actual actress and not just a floating pair of breasts right?
avatar
DaCostaBR: Your big requirement to cast an actress for this movie is how big her boobs are, so can you not see how ridiculous this is?
Does his suggestion for the role have huge breasts?

There's also this:
avatar
SeduceMePlz: If "boobs" and "English" are the only criteria... I'd suggest Lucy Pinder. ;)

But I'd like it to be a good movie, so I'd prefer Lauren Cohan. :P
Can you admit that you weren't being fair in your responses?
A friend suggested Ariel Winter. I'd prefer someone a bit more athletic and a bit older, but she doesn't strike me as a bad choice based on photos I've browsed, and Hollywood seems to want a younger actress. I haven't seen her act tho. Anyone familiar enough with her to comment?

Edit: Turns out I have been exposed to a bit of her acting - voice acting as Princess Perdita in DC Showcase: Green Arrow. Not much to go on tho, and it's from about six years back.

Edit 2: Back in 2012, she tweeted: "If another Tomb Raider gets made and Laura Croft is between 15-19, I would want that role so bad."

Her enthusiasm for the role is cool. If she's got the acting chops, she might be a good choice.

I'm afraid she can't act. None of the kids on 'Modern Family' are talented, to put it mildly.
Well, if we follow Hollywood's politically correct trends, we can predict that the casting of Lara Croft will have to be updated to feature the first female action star that is also blind and in a wheelchair.

Actually, a blind chick with huge boobs rolling around killing enemies in her rocket powered wheelchair might be pretty fun to watch. Just make sure the enemies are all midget assassins dressed up to look like bowling ball pins.
Well, she's been saved... sort of.

She may not have the looks of Angelina Jolie, but I liked her in The Man from UNCLE a thousand times more than Daisy Ridley in Star Wars (the same could be said about the movies too), so it's still good news.

Considering Jolie didn't look anything like Lara to begin with I think anyone other that her is a step in the right direction. :P

I thought she was reasonably close actually. I mean, for someone who's not made of polygons.

What do you mean, this classic English Rose is not real?
I'm sure I dated her all those years ago, before she was discovered, when she looked like a Plain Moai, I mean Jane!
