Games whose developers/publishers aren't interested in releasing on GOG:

Hidden Folks

Darvond: I'm going to be honest, I have looked though the thread and read of many of the games that were turned down.

And I'm going to be blunt: I haven't heard nary of a one of them. Maybe I'm a sheltered gamer. but I've also browsed though the entire volume of games on Humble Bundle's store. People aren't asking for things like Cave Story, Contraption Maker, Zen Bound, Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass or Knytt Underground.

They are asking for underground obscure games that I'm fairly certain Pixelmusement's Super Mindsweeper has sold more copies of. More people have heard of Peasant's Quest than these requested games. The metaphors could go on.

And I don't mean that as a way to insult or otherwise put them down, but if you're going to bellyache, at least go for aches rather than pinches, itches or slightly odd feelings!
What makes games like Project Warlock different from many other games from this list?

It's the same "underground obscure" first step of a young developer. Just like many other entries here. But suddenly it appears on the storefront like a big and important release.

There are many other projects of the same quality that you can find on Steam or on itch.io. For example, Dungeons Of Kremlin: Remastered. It's a pseudo-old-school shooter that was made by youngsters too. But developer's young age is not the thing that makes games better (or worse). And it definitely shouldn't be a reason for quite aggressive promotion of a not so polished product that doesn't have an "IN DEV" sign in the description.

So tell me, is it honest (or at least objective) when games like Project Warlock are here, while other "underground obscure games" are not? What makes it so special?

And I'm not telling here about "good old games" like Alpha Polaris.

The dev: "GOG turned down SLH, but I'm not feeling too down about it."
Winters: "Just curious do they give any reasoning when they did?"
The dev: "They just said that it was too insubstantial and the production values were a bit too low for their tastes."

Does anyone know if "Onion Force" was turned down by GOG? It's on Steam:

I have a feeling that the rest of the PixelJunk series was turned down by GOG. We have Shooter and Monsters, but no other releases from the company, including Monsters 2 (which was just released). I hope they start allowing more of these games.

The game eventually got on Steam.

OHMYGODJCABOMB: -snip-
Sure, I can explain rather clearly why there's the big fanfare.

1. The game is currently a GOG.com exclusive. This is made obvious from the description.

2. The game was developed by someone born in Poland. If you can't figure out why that appeals to GOG, then I'm going to have to ask what rock you're currently living under.

Unfortunately, this makes sense.

How can we trust GOG's curation system then, if they probably can (I don't claim that it's so) select games not by quality, but by country of origin?

Isn't it a little bit unfair?

Worthless Bums dev 20 Jun 2014: "Slightly turned off by GOG refusing games and refusing to let devs set higher price points :|"

Mike Bithell, dev of Thomas Was Alone: "Indie tip no. 128: Don't be pushed on price. A major distribution platform demanded I halved Thomas' price, massively glad I ignored. Obviously, listen to wiser voices, but shop around to see if people agree. I didn't go with that platform, but did fine elsewhere."

Nowadays GOG is more flexible, but I wonder how many games in the past never came here because of disagreements over price points. It might be worthwhile for the curation team to go back to some of those devs and mend fences.
