I thought Google already own the internet?

I remember before Google was around, i would do an internet search and a wide variety of things would come up.

Now since Google, if i do a search, even with an alternate search engine, i seem to be getting identical results to what i get in Google search, and a large proportion of that previous wide variety seems to be getting excluded from the results...... Interesting isn't it?

That was funny, Mr e.

It was funny because you put :D after it, otherwise I wouldn't have laughed, so yeah.

I use duckduckgo.com, you'll get results similar to google but they don't try to track you.

Same you can also customize it and remember settings without using login or cookies to track

Not sure how that's possible as my understanding is that it uses a variety of search engines as well as it's own?

I only used it briefly a few years ago and the results weren't all that similar; some were, many weren't.

Do you mean just 'they' don't try to track you or they don't allow 'anyone' to try to track you? Because i probably don't care if 'they' are or are not tracking me while 1000 other organizations still are! lol

It tends to put the more widely known site first while google puts whoever pays them the most at the top of the list.

From reading their faq's I believe they don't allow anyone track you from their site. Once you go to another site there's nothing they can do.

understood.

In Australia the government recently set a law to force all ISP's to store all meta data for two years. What was most amusing about it is that the media found out all the politicians pushing the legislation have special software blocking the ability to save their own meta data.

I am amazed at the stuff Australian voters put up with, honestly!

Don't forget the proposed pirate website blocking.

They're all hypocrites, just the Coalition is more so.

This country is poorly served by having only two major parties.

They know that it's only a matter of time before they win government, regardless of how good or bad the other side is.

Combine that with compulsory voting and the result is what we have today, musical chairs and two useless parties only interested in power and vested interests.

BTW, I hope you were honest in the Census or I'm dobbing you in.
So this is really happening. And nothing can be done about this? I'm guessing there are many sites exist just because of the 1st amendment alone (I don't see a reason otherwise) and they may be gone? There's no country to trust more in regards to being OK with what's on the internet than the US it seems.

The way to understand Australian politics is as simple as this..... It is not about who we vote for, we don't vote 'for' anyone. Its all about who we vote against!!!!!!! then the other guy benefits from us voting 'against' the first guy and thinks we must like him! pfffttt hahahahaha NOPE!

Edit: for the censes, i wrote "check meta data" in big letters across the page! lol (no, not really)
