The real question should be, does anyone care anymore ?

Darkhan: The real question should be, does anyone care anymore ?
Given I just purchased the game now as it finally went on sale, I do XD

Well technically more accurate would be do enough people care anymore? I sure do and as i bought the game knowing it was a starting point for further development it is great to see proof that it is still alive and Hello Games have not 'run off with the money' as the internet hate-train have been saying since day 1.

If people want to ignore this game, that is their loss ultimately, especially as it gets updates and just as important imho, more mods.
Any news on GOG version also get this update or we have wait a few months?
You can call me a "Glass is half empty guy" if you like but I will wait till I see what requirements this new update will have, base building for example. Not sure how they will set up base building unless they have redone galactic navigation from the ground up.

I refuse to connect online for any feature and I being a cynic suspect that these new features will be a way to get people back to playing online so they can get their bragging rights to how many discoveries people are making.

When this game first came out and for several patches I tried the online stuff only to find myself back stepped, and I suspect the problem may have occurred when multiple people happened to be in the same system and named their discoveries very close in time to one another and the servers at HelloGames got confused and BAM, one of those players gets back stepped to fix the naming problem.

As others have said and I agree, I really wanted to like this game but I do not want to be online for any feature. If base building can be done without any internet connection at all I will be a happy person, but if it or any of the other features require you to be connected I will say what I did in the begging that it is just a shameless form of copy protection.
of all the things to choose to add to the game...base building??? really????

what possible reason could there be to build a base?

my suit is maxed out, my multi tool is maxed out...but my ship isnt. ive been at 45 slots for ages now simply because i like how my ship looks and all the ones i find i dont like. even without having a maxed out ship...i never mine for anything anymore...i dont collect any kind of resources other than the ones i use up often like plutonium. i never find myself wanting more slots...at this point of the game there is no reason to be looking for stuff to keep.

the entirety of playing nms consists of going to new planets to look at (and take screenshots of) the scenery and maybe...MAYBE...scan for animals. i dont collect vortex cubes or any high value items...there is absolutely NO reason to ever spend units.

i cant see what having a "base" would add to a game thats exclusively about roaming the universe without any real direction or intent.

is the "base" like one of those space stations? is it a giant ship i land my little ship on?? does it follow me everywhere i go?

seriously...what is the point of a base in a game where you never go to the same place twice?

THIS is the feature they decide to focus on?

geez....the litany of head scratching decisions by hello games just gets bigger and bigger. maybe theyre shooting for 18 quintillion development choices that dont make any sense.
Base building was only being considered when people thought all the other stuff was in the game.

People want the stuff they were told was going to be in the game. Foundation base building and the `beginnings of it` is not enough.

No one should shout for joy.

Not sure how they will set up base building unless they have redone galactic navigation from the ground up.
And it would be about time.
But I think they'll just improve waypoints.

We'll see soon.

People have been aggressively pressuring Hello Games for base building since the game's release. Let's plays were promising it was coming any day now from the pre-release leaks onward. None have ever said what they mean by the term. It's just another setup for the trolls to moan and wail about "fail" and "lies".

There are things i would put above base building in my priorities for improving the game.

But, really at this stage of the NMS thing, for me it is not about what features updates will have, but that we will get updates at all.

So in that context i'm very happy and relieved that the game is not dead, and Hello Games are going to carry on working on it.

Considering the reaction and hate they received for releasing a game, they could have simply left it to wither and die, so i am simply happy they did not choose that easier option.
Update video and patch note is out. This is the video: watch?v=hI9PvjJJijY

Is this actually out yet or just yet another promise? If the latter, I'll believe it when I see it.
It appears to be available for the PS4 right now at least, so those players should be able to verify the accuracy of this announcement. I hope it makes its way over to GOG soon. It's a bigger update than I was expecting.
I seriously hope they dont forget about GOG, I just bought the game and I'll refund it if the update doesn't hit, but there is definitely a chance to see a "from zero to hero" story here, if the devs actually start to redeem themselves, that would be great.
