ET3D: Because it's easier (less variety of devices) and iPhone owners are willing to pay.

On the other hand, I think that Android owners are more active on Kickstarter.
You say that as if Google doesn't provide a whole suite of tools for managing that problem. And as if most Android devices aren't running the same version of Android.

Personally I'm backing Devo Bots as I'm a real fan of Devo and they're getting new material if they get funded. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/remo/authorized-devo-synthesizer-and-robot-maker-app-de

There is definitely an Android version and I don't know if there is an iPhone app.

In an unrelated side note, I find the solar pocket factory to be intriguing, but I have no idea how likely they are to pull it off. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/alex9000/the-solar-pocket-factory-an-invention-adventure?ref=live

I'm saying that because that's what I've read developers say, and yes, I'm pretty sure Android devices still have a wide variety of OS versions. Even if you take a single very successful phone such as the Galaxy S II, many users are still on Android 2.3 while a lot of others have upgraded to 4.0. That's not even mentioning the wide variety of hardware available on Android phones and tablets.

For me personally Android is a selling point, and it often determines how much money I pledge to a Kickstarter if at all (Shadowrun Returns got only a token pledge because they didn't make the Android version part of the rewards, while Broken Sword got my $25 the moment Android was announced). However, I can understand why developers would go the iOS way. They won't get my money, but I think it's a valid decision.

It's still not true.

It's FUD that Apple was spreading a few years back to discourage developers from working on Android. For the features that most applications use, the development kit has tools and it won't even offer the app if the features aren't there on a particular device.

The number I saw earlier this week was that the vast majority of the phones still ship with Gingerbread. So developers target that unless they have to have a feature that's only in a newer version.

In terms of the myriad handhelds that's handled by the device firmware. All Android applications run in a virtual environment and for the most part the developers don't need to know about what device the app is running on unless there's a firmware bug.

That's a figure that's about as important as the fact that most PC's run XP (which was true until recently). The market as a whole is not important, the gaming market is. Windows 7 won there quite a while ago, and I'd bet that Ice Cream Sandwich has a much larger market space amongst gamers than amongst all Android phone users.

I've seen a lot of apps on my phone offering updates for 4.0 compatibility, even 4.1 compatibility. Obviously it's an issue.

Edit: I just realised that the real reason iOS is a better target is that it's a much larger market. Hardcore games aren't meant to be played on phones, they are designed for tablets, and the Android tablet market is in its infancy. I imagine that in a year or two things will be different.

Dungeons & Dragons: A Documentary.
Not a Kickstarter project, but still worth highlighting: Project CARS
Honestly, i'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.

As a matter of fact, it has already been mentioned.
I'll update the list later.

Are they still doing in-game Kickstarter exclusive content?

Games Save the World (you know, two kids started a gaming company with Dad's help) update:
Apparently some folks on a website called 4Chan found our kickstarter and were very kind to us in helping us promote our game. They almost made it a mission to pop our goal and actually did so.
...don't look at that site, kids.

It's not much: A single item and a party member (who will be in the game regardless, he's only playable if you donate). If it's a principle thing I understand, though.
