cw8: Oh, the gambler npc? I only gambled once and I got that Unique Wand. In TL1 at least you can get greens or blues or crap if you gamble, had gambled a few times I didn't get any Uniques. Think it's more or less the same here in TL2.
If that's the case then I've been very lucky, I've had a few items off him, all have been unique. The bosses have also been dropping some nice stuff

MonstaMunch: I have a feeling legendary only drops in hardcore mode or something.
Nope, it definitely drops in regular mode as well. I got a single legendary drop during my entire run through the game; it was during a boss fight in act 3, but wasn't actually from the boss (one of the cannon fodder accompanying the boss dropped it in the middle of the fight).
Looks like the bug is still there with the most recent patch.

DarrkPhoenix: Well, I just finished the game with my embermage and have now started on a new-game+.
What's the game+ like and where do you buy maps for random dungeons like in T1?

DodoGeo: where do you buy maps for random dungeons like in T1?
You can buy maps from the guy in The Minehead.

Cool, thanks. As I'm on Act II and I don't know where Minehead is, I guess that's in game+ mode only?

It's the town in Act III, but you have to beat the final boss before he'll sell you any maps.

Edit: So I just finished a play through on Vetaran, and still not a single Legendary item. : / Oh, and the guy doesn't actually sell maps, but he takes you to a cat that does >.>

Newgame+ is pretty much the same as the first playthrough, but it starts at lvl 51. So far I've been tearing through it without too much difficulty, although there are still moments that keep me on my toes (this is on veteran difficulty). The random maps become available once you've completed the game. A new area will open up (the Mapworks) where you can buy and use the random maps. The Mapworks remains accessible when you start a Newgame+ as well.

I think it starts at whatever level you are when you start it. I was 53 and it started ng+ at 53.

I still haven't found any legendary items (though have now seen some screenshots so at least I know they exist).

Which bug?

FraterPerdurabo: I like games that reward me for pouring in the hours.

Porkdish: I like games that reward me for playing well, not long.

I feel more attached to my characters for every decision made in making it. If I find someone who has a better build, swapping out to it with my current character cheapens every minute I spent playing with them. Areas and bosses are memorable for how you defeated them.

I'm currently playing a second Berserker with a drastically different build to my first, the early game is a lot harder, and the difficulty is fun. I would never have that if I could just swap out my skills with my first Berserker.

I never did the Diablo 2 rush-rush-rush to high level. It defeated the point of playing the game to me. Skipping the whole game just so your new build is great for pvp or end game farming. I'd rather try builds that are fun for playing the whole game, not just the end.
Once again, completely misunderstood my point, which was that the game should reward you for the time that you sink in, rather than locking you into a suboptimal character because you didn't know better at the time. Skill is a different matter (and obviously paramount).

Anyway, this 'discussion' ran into a brick wall already from the start so no worries.

somebodyspecial: Is that steam or something autopatching you, or did you do it yourself but had an option MonstaMunch?
avatar
MonstaMunch: It was Steam. I was playing, then Protoss told me about the patch, and warned me that people were losing items from their shared stash when they updated. So I put all my important stuff into my other stash (left one unimportant item in shared just to see), and restarted with the update. Much to my delight, the "test item" was still in my stash, though a few minutes later I realized some areas I'd unlocked were unavailable, and I was about 4 quests back from where I previously was. It's odd because it still remembered my last waypoint, and let me teleport to it, even though it was on a map that it said I hadn't been to yet (the Forgotten Halls, Act III). Like I said, the only good thing was that I kept my xp and items, that's something I guess.
Monstamunch/hedwards - thanks for the info guys...Sorry about your luck monsta...Fortunately, while I'm drooling to play, I can wait as I don't have much time now and I'd surely get out of control and play until finished...LOL. I have a cert to get and company coming this weekend anyway. Thanks again guys.

kodeen: Which bug?
I guess it's not a bug, they just reroll the environment when there's a patch. I don't usually play games like this when there are still patches being made regularly.
I've found loot to be acceptable, but there's a lot of "check if this purple is worthy or has stupid requirements" which I wish I didn't have to do.

Yeah, it's a little annoying, but the devs said it's a 'better safe than sorry' feature for version number changes.
